Genesis of Al Qaeda and follow-up on Sept.11/2001

I watched a documentary on the genesis of Al Qaeda and the reluctance and refusal of the CIA to share its pieces of intelligence to the FBI…on the “anniversary documentary” of Sept.11 on the channel ARTE:

Let me start from the end:

Richard Clark, chief of counter-terrorism, during Clinton and Bush Jr., declared:

“More than 50 people in the CIA were accumulating pieces of intelligence on Al Qaeda since Ussama Bin Laden declared war on the USA in 1997 from Peshawar (Pakistan). The CIA was receiving intelligence from the European States and following closely the activities of Al Qaeda in the bombing of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania (1998) and the attack on the war ship Cole in Aden and the attacks in the Philippines where the Qaeda was testing sophisticated non-detectable liquid bombs that were introduced in commercial airplanes…

The CIA claimed that it was working for the long-term and refused to share its information with the FBI on Al Qaeda elements who entered the USA “legally”, 13 months before Sept.11. The CIA didn’t want that the FBI to crack down on the Al Qaeda elements on the US soil in order not to disturb its “intelligent work” and procedures…

The US army had its special intelligence center and managed to connect all the links among the Qaeda members and leaders and tried to warn the CIA of the urgency to share these information with the FBI, but the CIA made all kinds of excuses and went on tangent problems that were of no consequence in the short-term. Like the ballistic missile reduction…

The CIA had all the pieces of intelligence it  needed, and most agencies knew that something big is being planned and prepared on the US soil…”

The CIA was simply waiting for the disaster to happen…Why?

Let’s start from the beginning:

When the Soviet Unions invaded Afghanistan in 1980, the US decided to transform Afghanistan into a “Soviet Vietnam“.  The US facilitated the task of Saudi Arabia in dispatching Islamic Arabs to bordering city of Peshawar in Pakistan to get military training.

Sheikh Azzam (Syrian/Palestinian) was the main leader and organizer of the “Service Center” (markaz al khadamat) for the Arab moujahidines flocking into Pakistan and in Peshawar, aided by a young Algerian Jihadist.

In 1981, Al Zawahiri (an Egyptian surgeon) landed in Peshawar with a different objective of “after Afghanistan war“.

Al Zawahiri was released from three years of prison in Egypt in connection with the assassination of Sadat, and was badly tortured, and was vehemently angry with Egypt’s Moslem Brotherhood whom he considered in close relationship with the government.

It happened that Osama bin Laden was also dispatched by Saudi Arabia to Peshawar with plenty of money to finance the operations and became a co-founder with Azzam of the future Al Qaeda organization.

Al Zawahiri linked with bin Laden against Azzam whom he viewed as the leader of the Moslem Brotherhood outside Egypt and heavily recruiting the converging Arabs in Afghanistan to the Brotherhood religious ideology…

An Egyptian officer Ali Muhammad relocated to the US and became an US Sergent in Fort Bragg. Ali Muhammad was the main agent of Al Zawahiri in the US who translated all the engagement and training manuals into Arabic and sent them to the insurgents in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The CIA relied heavily on Ali inside information and the location of all the training camps of Al Qaeda…

The Soviet Union withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989, in an orderly manner and in a one long trail of military hardware and troops. What happened later?

Sheikh Azaam considered the task was over and ordered the jihadists to return home.

However, not a single Arabic State wanted to receive these fighting jihadists, and these professional “fighters” had to be dispatched to any hot spot around the world, like Chechnya, Kosovo, Bosnia, Algeria,Yemen, Sudan, and later Iraq, and now emerging into Syria…(where the CIA likes to destabilize the society)…

The dictators like Saddam Hussein and Libya Qadhafi and Zein bin Al Abidine in Tunisia were staunch opponents to these radical Islamic jihadists and denied entry of Al Qaeda in their countries.

And the US totally forgot Afghanistan: The Soviets were out and that was the main purpose for recruiting insurgents in Afghanistan.

And for an entire decade, the US didn’t extend any financial aid to the Afghanistan people and let this country be ruled by Taliban and Pakistan security services

And Bin Laden was free to organize and train his Al Qaeda (The Base) movement into destabilizing the Arabic countries that were considered totally allied to the US, particularly after the landing of the US troops in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to “kick out” Saddam Hussein from Kuwait…

Al Zawahiri and the CIA assassinated Sheihk Azzam. Around 1993, the imam of the mosque in the Bronx was assassinated: He was allied to Sheihk Azzam. Al Zawahiri dispatched sheikh Abdul Rahman , the blind, the companion of Al Zawahiri in Egypt prison, to inherit the imamship of the Bronx Mosque.

sheikh Abdul Rahman entered the USA legally: The CIA forms an integral institution within the State Department and many of the CIA members are employed at the State Department, and the CIA is permitted to issue entry visa to who can serve its interests (agents…)

The FBI had infiltrated the close circle of Abdul Rahman and knew all the plans, including the decisions to bomb certain institutions. The infiltrated agent warned the FBI that he was ordered to put together a large bomb…The agent got in a row with the FBI and disappeared.

Al Zawahiri dispatched to Abdul Rahman a Palestinian/Kuwaiti engineer, a professional in making powerful bombs, and blew the World Trade Center. A few more kilo of explosives would have completely demolished the center and lean over and destroy the next tower…Al Qaeda was intent on destroying the Twin Towers, symbol of US imperialist power…

This 35-year old engineer is the one who was sent to the Philippines…

In 1997, Al Zawahiri convinced Bin Laden that the best way to getting out of the anonym state was to directly upset the USA and receive free coverage. And Bin Laden declared war on the USA in 1997…and a few bomb attacks on US institutions outside the USA got bin Laden out of obscurity.

The Cow-Boy reactions of the US, in launching missiles on a few tents and destroying pharmaceutical factories in Sudan and elsewhere, elevated Bin Laden into the unique Arabic Moslem leader, and displaced the center of gravity of popular alignment to Al Qaeda, instead of the current dictators…

Richard Clark said that since 2000 he readied drones with missile launching capability in order to annihilate the Al Qaeda main training camps and headquarters in Peshawar.

The successive US governments refused any further bombing on account that the US was already involved in the bombing of Yugoslavia and keeping the “no-fly zone” over Iraq and didn’t want to project the image that the US is on the “go-ho” of destroying everything and everywhere around the world…

Why the CIA refrained from sharing information with the FBI and other intelligence gathering agencies? Most probably to execute a ready-planned preemptive war (on Iraq), initiated in 1998, and betting on the “Cow Boy” reaction of the US government to immediately go into action, in retaliation for the suffered indignity…

The CIA was in close contacts with Israel strategic military ready-made plans, and Israel agents were the ones behind the facilitation and acquisition of the means for the Qaeda to put into execution the project of annihilating the Twin Towers…

Note 1: On the Sept 11 anniversary of 2012, Al Qaeda assassinated the US ambassador in Benghazi (Libya). Why? The ambassador was on location, a few years ago, when US drones killed the Al Qaeda leader Al Libi. Al Libi objective was to do away with Qadhafi! And Obama still insists on drone-killing Al Qaeada leaders and the collateral civilians, and increasing Al Qaeda popularity in the Arabic/Islamic world…

Note 2: Do you know the town of Venice in Florida? It is located by the Atlantic shores, and the ideal place to fly small planes to Mexico and bring in all the drugs you want: Radar coverage are minimal. The CIA bought one of the private companies for flying small airplanes, twice its worth in 2000. This is where Muhammad Al Atta (the leader of the Twin Towers attackers) and a couple more “terrorist” pilots resumed and perfected their skills during the entire year up to Sept 11/ 2001…

No Papers, No Fear, Ride for Justice: Women Art inspiring fearlessness?

A large group of Mexican activists converged to Albuquerque to opposed the yearly weapons display and trading. Why? In the last decade, 60,000 Mexicans died from drug gang retaliations, and all gangs are getting their weapons exclusively from the USA.  Actually, the US hoards two-third of world weapons market share, evaluated this year to $67 billion.

Another group of “Undocumented riders” is converging from Arizona to the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina. They are coming out of the shadows and getting on the bus. They are saying: “Our rights and our families are under attack and we’ve come too far to go back now”.

Undocumented riders are coming out publicly, supporting local people to build barrio defense, and performing peaceful civil disobedience to challenge the promoters of hate and set an example of love and fearlessness from Arizona to the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina.

We’re tired of the mistreatment and can’t wait for anyone else to stop it. We’re rolling through the No Papers No Fear Ride for Justice to set an example of courage that we hope the country will be brave enough to follow.

Already we’ve faced down Sheriff Arpaio, gone into his jail with our head high, and because we’re part of an organized community, came out with our heads held higher.

We urge artists, musicians, and writers to take action and create an image, song, or poem to be used as part of our online viral campaign for and to possibly be published as prints to raise funds for the effort with the consent of the artist.

Create an image, song, or poem that shows your support for the No Papers No Fear Ride for Justice and especially for the riders who are risking everything and conquering fear.

Make sure to include the specific words on the image such as “no papers no fear,” “sin papeles y sin miedo” “levanta tu cara” “dignity is here.” “We can’t wait” “right side of history.” For visual images size must be 18×24 inches with a 1/2 inch border all the way around.

Calling for Art that inspires fearlessness.

Note: As a gesture to get latino votes, President Obama gave the undocumented people in the US (fulfilling a few conditions) a reprieve of two years and issued them work permits.

And the “Muhammad Film” Trailer hit the huge market of embittered spirits…

The killing of US ambassador in Benghazi (Libya) might be the synergy of three main events:

1. The projection of “Muhammad Film” on Youtube

2. The ‘anniversary’ of Sept.11/2001

3. The US drone-killing of Al Qaeda leader Al Libi several years ago.  Al Libi was Libyan and his main objective was the toppling of the regime of Qadhafi…

Switch Al Libi with any of these Al Qaeda leaders, or semi-leaders or potential leaders, killed by drones such as Al Jazaeri, al Tunisy, al Sury, al Iraqi, al Yamani, al Sudany, al Soumali, al Filipini, al Indonisy, al Afghani, al Pakistany… and the US embassies in these countries are liable to be targets of violent reactions…

The other violent manifestations in front of several US embassies around the world are connected to all or one of the above causes, and these mass demonstrations might escalate even further, unless Obama:

1. publicly apologize for the reckless showing of a movie that has nothing to do with freedom of religion,

2. and publicly declare that the decision to resuming drone assassination was laid to rest. Killing radical Moslems leaders just exacerbates the radicalization of the Moslem world…and increases the followers of Al Qaeda and Saudi Arabia brand of obscurantist Wahhabi sect…

These Cow-Boy US reactions that rely solely on killing, mass destruction…from afar, are generating the same kinds of violent reactions to these “cowardly” missile launching tactics…which are killing more civilians and children than “terrorist” fighters…

This letter by the US Catholic priest Doug May, who claims to be the only US-born Catholic priest in Egypt, was sent as a link via Andrew Bossone on Facebook:

“As the only U.S.-Born Catholic priest in Egypt, who has spent 20 of the last 35 years living and working in the Middle East, I feel the need to comment on the Youtube Muhammad film trailer that Muslims see as mocking prophet Muhammad.

While many Christians and secularists might say: “What’s the big deal?”, there are many Christians who were very upset with films like “The Life of Brian” in the late 1970s, “The Last Temptation” in the late 1980s and “Priest” in the mid 1990s.

To be honest, my own personal philosophy is that “If you can’t laugh at it, it’s not worth dying for”.  I’ve watched all three above films many times and have even preached on them.  During a retreat I participated in 2006, I read the Da Vinci Code as “challenging reading” that raised questions and made me reflect while many Christians condemned it and preached against it.

However, as with many Christians and Jews, many Muslims do not feel their religion nor their religious prophets are things one can joke about and mock.

After spending 18 of the last 30 years in Egypt, I am not a romantic when it comes to the realities of religious intolerance, social discrimination and sectarian violence experienced by many Christians due to religious fanatics who claim to be Christian, Jewish or Muslim.

I have overheard various “men of religion” refer to Christians using the religious “M” word, “mushrik” meaning polytheists and idolaters or “K” word “kafer” meaning infidel.  I’ve heard it all and seen a lot.

While two wrongs never make a right, Christians of most denominations should never fail to recall the violence, discrimination and persecution we have been guilty of during our own 2,000-year history “in the name of God and Jesus Christ”.

I cannot speak for Muslims outside of Egypt, but I can try to explain the reactions of many to such a film without equating these reasons to being justifications.

Most Americans get quite upset when we watch the American flag being burned or trampled on.  We at least get upset if someone desecrated the Bible and Catholics get very upset if someone desecrated the Eucharist.

Maybe we don’t burn those who do or torture them anymore, but we have in the past.  We claim to be “one nation under God with liberty and justice for all” and yet we have always found at least one race, nationality, religion or orientation to focus on and “go after”.

Western societies that profess “freedom of religion” have moved toward “freedom FROM religion”.  Personally, even as a Catholic priest, I feel that “religion” in civil democracies have the obligation to form and educate the individual and collective conscience of its followers and to be “a voice of conscience” in society.

However, I oppose any religion dictating to government how it should legislate morality according to any particular religious belief system.  At the same time, this is NOT the current reality in the Muslim world whether I/we like it or not.  Cultural sensitivity must include religious and social sensitivity.

In our world of “political correctness”, it is generally no longer acceptable to make fun of or ridicule people of color, women, gays, Jews, Catholics, Hispanics, Poles, Italians, Germans, etc.

Yet it is still “open season” to depict Arabs as “rag heads” and Muslims as “terrorists”.

Prophet Muhammad in Islam is forbidden to be “imaged” in any way, except with his face covered so adverse are Muslims to any image of God or any person for fear that the image itself might be worshipped.

Photos of family members and political leaders have invaded most non-religious spaces in Arab-Muslim countries as they are seen as distinct from religious images.

Therefore, depicting Muhammad in pictures, whether “moving” or not, is forbidden.  To depict Muhammad as a sex-crazed, simpleton simply goes too far.

Before coming to the Arab-Muslim world for the first time in 1977, could I laugh at this film watching Muhammad look like a fool?  Probably yes, just as I laughed at Jesus and John the Baptist in The Life of Brian.

However, as a priest, would I feel free to “juggle” the “Body and Blood of Christ” at the altar during Mass as if I were performing in a circus act?  NO!  It just isn’t done!  If I was short of toilet paper, would I resort to tearing out pages of the Hebrew or Christian scriptures in a time of need?   NO!  It just isn’t done.  So, is burning the Koran, desecrating the Koran and insulting Muhammad OK?  NO!  It just isn’t done by anyone who is aware and sensitive to Muslims and respectful of Islam.

Would I possibly defend the “theoretical right” to do such a thing?  Probably yes, just as I would defend the theoretical right to defecate on the American flag.

However, rights come with responsibilities to respect others, their rights and their sensitivities.  I have never been afraid to question, challenge and disagree with religious and political ideologies and their representatives, but I try to do so with some respect.

This film is a classic example of “going too far” while hiding behind the concept of “freedom of speech” and hiding under the rock of “unadulterated bigotry”.  It also places local Christians in the terrible situation of “guilt by association”.

Either unintentionally out of pure ignorance and stupidity OR intentionally out of an expressed desire to be inflammatory and incite violence, the makers and distributors of this film are as guilty of a crime as the demonstrators who have resorted to unjustified violence and killing in defense of Islam and Muhammad.

If motive and premeditation can be proven, I would challenge the U.S, government to arrest and convict the makers and distributors of this film.  I would suggest that Muslims along with moderate Christians and Jews take the film makers and distributors to court and sue them for “inciting violence” if such a cause exists in civil law.

Once again, I have heard it all and seen a lot in terms Muslim attitudes and acts against Christian and other minorities living in the Arab-Muslim world.  I know many of the experiences of those living in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and North Africa.

I am not defending bigots and fanatics among Arabs and Muslims any more than I would defend bigots and fanatics among Christians or Jews. My focus here is to openly attack and condemn the bigots and bigotry involved in the production and distribution of this film whether they be Christian, Jewish or secular.

It is time to say “enough is enough”.  I say “enough” and you should too.

Note 1: If it is true that a few societies are moving away from religion, I’ll the first to apply for citizenship…Unfortunately, no society structure finds it economically beneficial  to do away with religion and religious clerics…Money surplus is tightly linked to the level of mind-slaved classes, mortgaging this life for a stupid fictitious after-life…
