Do you believe the Romans were ignorant of the Christian faith and customs?

Pline the Young was appointed magistrate in north Turkey by Emperor Trajan. He wrote to the Emperor: “I need your orders relevant to the ways of legally treating with the increased number of Christos in the countryside. They assemble on fixed days, before sun up. They sing hymns to Christos as a God, swear not to steel, nor commit adultery, and to pay off their debt…They share ordinary breakfast together… They refuse to honor our Gods and do not consider our Emperor as God…”

The Roman Celse wrote”

“Jews and Christians give me the impression of night bats, ants leaving their holes, frogs settled by swamps… meeting in the corner of a mire. They tell one another “It is to us that God revealed his desires, wants and wishes. Our God doesn’t care for the lot of the other infidels. He let the skies and earth proceed as they wish so that He may focus his attention on us. We are the only people who can communicate through His messengers… We are the only people with whom God wants to be associated with: He makes us resemble to Him.

Everything is subordinated to us: Earth, water, air and the stars. All was created for us and designed to save us. It is because a few among us sinned that God sent his only Son to burn all the infidels and to share with us the Eternal Life…”

The agony of Christos was witnessed by scores of people, but his resurrection by only one person. It is the way around that should have occurred…

O Christians, support the Emperor of all your force, partake with the Emperor the defense of rights and laws, join the army…

Cease from acts of avoiding your civic and military services. Participate in the public functions for the sake of the cause of piety…”

The Roman philosopher Lucien wrote:

“Jesus of the Christians appealed to the idiots and the simple of spirit to join: The Kingdom of God is for you. Who is sane in the mind could be caught in that doctrine? The Christians try hard to render conscious suspect and wise judgement guilty .. Those Christos followers claim “The wise people repel our teaching because they are disoriented and restrained by their rational mind.”

Those Christos followers seem drunk and accuse the sober people to be drunkard. They seem short sighted and are intent at persuading the sane-eyed to seeing nothing…”

Note: In almost all religions, the second generation of converts turned fanatic and regarded the other religions are  in the wrong, and deadly wrong, and the custom of looking at the followers of the previous religions are totally ignorant. For example, Islam labelled the non Moslems who didn’t believe in One God as “jahel” (ignorant).

The first generation of Christians firmly believed that the Second Coming (of the Lord) will take place during their own existence and that they will be the selected ones to go to heaven or rule the world. The second generation inherited the same belief system. Over 20 centuries later, most sect still believe that the Second Coming is soon, very soon and will live to witness the event.

The Moslem Shias believe in the coming of the prophetic Mahdi.

A few sects believe that only a select few (about a couple hundred followers) will be chosen by God to represent and continue the human species. As if the thousands and millions of followers have just the role of playing slaves to the Queens and leaving the decision to the Lord.

I guess that with that belief system, the sect takes account of the insanity of the people for believing that they are the ones to be chosen, playing lotto…

Deadly harmful and useless:  Warning Alarm on Oxygen machines…

There are these supposedly oxygen machines that inject 2% more oxygen for people with lung deficiencies. Actually, it is not the lack of oxygen that is the main problem, but the incapacity of exhaling the toxic gases as accumulated CO2 and CO… The membrane is so thick that the gases do not seep through properly and easily… Thus, this gizmo of three balls to enhance the exhalation… Indeed the 3-ball toy is the best remedy to keep the lungs functional

These machines are not the ones that come with the tall oxygen bonbon for welding… It’s sort of a redesigned hookah inserted in a big gray box with plenty of bells and whistles. Instead of inhaling by the mouth, you inhale through two tiny tubes in each nose. Kind of humidified air with a small extra supply of CO2.

I have this strong impression that the machine is a huge fraud, more like a psychological boost that additional oxygen is entering the lungs.

The worst part in the machine that we rent for $75 per month is that it has a warning alarm when the power is out. Unless you shut off the machine, there is no way to stop or control the timing of the duration of the loud warning horrible noise. I started hearing noises inside my head.

Every night, at 4 or 5 am, the alarm goes off. Everybody is sound asleep and dreaming. Dad wouldn’t extend his arm to turn off the machine, and mother didn’t learn how to turn it off.

I am hearing warning alarm in my dream, and it takes a while before I realize that it is a fact. I slowly and reluctantly grab the battery powered light and descend very slowly the stairs, holding on the rail to switch the interrupter to the proper provider. And feeling lucky if one of them providers is working.

Otherwise, the alarm will go on indefinitely. A few times a I faked I didn’t hear the alarm and the problem was resolved by dreaming even harder of a better life.

In Lebanon, we still rely on private power providers to supplement the public utility, and I have to descend one flight of stairs to switch the interrupter to either provider.

Last night, after switching the interrupter, I tried to go back to bed and resume my dream, but the buzzing within my head  was noticeably louder than usual. The inside noise seemed stronger in the right ear side. I closed my ear, but it didn’t work. I closed the left ear, and it didn’t work. I tuned to my sides, hoping the pillow is a better alternative for outrageous noises. The pillow failed me.

Sleeping is now out of the question. I got up and tried to watch TV. I figured other kinds of sounds will override or cancel out what I hear within. It didn’t work.

I prepared coffee and had a smoke on the balcony. The birds are not chirping, not yet. The inside noise or acouphenes (medical prognosis term) is still in the “alarming” mode.

Three hours later and the buzzing didn’t vanish. If I attend to it during the day, I can mildly hear it, but it is there.

I think that I heard the inside sound a couple of days ago, but I must have falling back to sleep right away.

The worst part is that everytime dad switch on and off the machine, it emanates the same noise for three seconds, enough duration to excite my memory and drive me crazy.

I am worrying that acouphenes might set in.

I am not a musician, never listened to loud music and songs, don’t live near an airport or a train rail (Lebanon used to have trains in the 20’s, linking Beirut to Tripoli, to Saida, Tyr, Haifa…)

So what are the alternatives?

1. Throw the machine out the window

2. Learn sign language to communicate? Since it takes two to tango, and my elder parents are not willing to learn anything new, particularly a language that require flexibility in the fingers, arms and shoulders… a condition not welcomed in arthritics conditions…

3. Show mother how to turn off the machine

4. Warn dad to make the effort of stretching his arm and turn off the machine, otherwise…

5. Jump off the balcony…

You might suggest to check with an expert physician for ear ailments:

1. I have no health insurance

2. I have no money and transport facilities

3. I have written a post that demonstrates that there are no effective cure for acouphenes, and all the money and effort will go down the drain…

You might figure out a definitive solution: 24 hours a day power supply, like in developed States and most developing States. Again, this is Lebanon. The minister of energy and water has promised that the 24 hours thing will become a reality in 2016. Should I believe the minister? Should I eagerly look for 2016?

1. We have been flooded with thousands of promises since our independence in 1946, as the UN officially recognized us as such in the San Francisco conference…

2. Dad has no longer any need for this machine

3. I go completely deaf, and I wouldn’t care

4. I confront all the ministers and the political system for serious damages done to me and the citizens…

5. Throw myself off a cliff. Since there are no nearby cliff, most probably I’ll go up the roof, take off my parachute, remove my helmet, and enjoy the dive in the void…

PS: I’d rather learn to dive in water, but it hurts my ears, and I land on my back…

Note 1: A solution is to purchase a 10 ampere from the private provider instead of the 5 amperes that only lights a few bulbs and the TV set. Although what we might effectively get is 7 amperes, at least it will support an automatic interrupter. This worthy resolution is worth $150 per month, an amount that I cannot afford.

I must find a job. Better, win the lotto. First thing first: Purchase the lotto ticket.

I am hopeful and positive about the future.
