30+ Lucian Quotes From The Rhetorician And Satirist

Lucian was a Syrian scholar of ancient Syria, he was born into a lower middle class family in the village of Samosata.

Lucian was famous for his sarcastic approach towards religious practices, superstitions, and often ridiculed paranormal beliefs.

Most of the facts about him are known through his writings.

Though he was a Syrian, most of his books were found to be written in Attic Greek. He was trained to become a sculptor, but a failed attempt at sculpting made him run away to pursue an education in a faraway land.

After acquiring enough wealth, Lucian is said to have settled in Athens where he wrote most of his works.

He bought a house and seemed to have invited his parents to live with him in Athens. He was also appointed as a government official with the highest remuneration.

Here we would like to share a few of his thoughts that may inspire the historians in you to study his works further.

Nothing is known about how Lucian got educated. However, his art of rhetoric and knowledge of philosophy was found to be very deep and thought-provoking.

Here we bring some of his philosophical quotes for you to check out.

1.”The happy think a lifetime short, but to the unhappy one night can be an eternity.”

― Lucian of Samosata.

2.“I see no reason for resigning my right to that inventive freedom which others enjoy; and, as I have no truth to put on record, having lived a very humdrum life, I fall back on falsehood–but falsehood of a more consistent variety; for I now make the only true statement you are to expect–that I am a liar.”

― Lucian of Samosata, ‘True History And Lucius Or The Ass’.

Exporting the Tools of Apartheid

July 26, 2021

Posted by Yousef Munayyer

LAST WEEK, a joint investigation by 17 media outlets—including The Washington PostThe Guardian, and Haaretz—revealed that Israeli intelligence firm NSO Group had licensed military-grade spyware known as Pegasus to a long list of authoritarian regimes.

The report drew on a leaked list of more than 50,000 phone numbers; a close forensic analysis of some of the phones confirmed that they had been hacked by surveillance software capable of monitoring the targets’ movements, listening to their conversations, and accessing their private data.

The list included the phones of several people close to murdered journalist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi: His wife’s phone was targeted in the months before his gruesome murder, while his fiancée phone was hacked in the days after his death.

The phone number of Princess Latifa bint Mohammed al-Maktoum was added to the list shortly after her escape from the United Arab Emirates and just days before she was captured on her way to Sri Lanka by Indian commandos, who returned her to Dubai.

Numbers belonging to some 14 current or former heads of state were found on the list as well.

The investigation into NSO precipitated criticism of the Israeli government, which licensed the sales.

The technology could not have been exported without the explicit consent of the Israeli Defense Ministry.

Indeed, The New York Times has reported separately that the Israeli government not only allowed but encouraged the company to continue selling its software to Saudi monarchy, even after the murder of Khashoggi. The Post has raised questions about NSO’s relationship with Israel’s government, citing speculation in the US intelligence community that the company may share some of the information it collects with Israeli security agencies.

But the involvement of the Israeli government in the NSO saga is not limited to the licensing of a private corporation’s sales, or even to the possible use of its data, gathered through the company’s contracts with brutal regimes.

The NSO group, like many Israeli “high-tech” outfits, was founded—and is likely largely staffed—by individuals who came through the Israeli military’s Unit 8200, which is responsible for intelligence collection and surveillance, or in other words, for cyber espionage.

The investigation has failed to fully comprehend this link, or to understand the unique advantages that the Israeli military enjoys when it comes to the creation of surveillance tools.

Most Western-allied, technologically advanced states are confronted with limits on how military and intelligence technology can be deployed against—and thus developed on—the populations over which they exert control, which usually consist of citizens whose civil liberties are guaranteed by law.

That isn’t to say that those liberties are never violated. But Israel’s situation is fundamentally different: With an occupied and stateless population of Palestinians under its rule, to which it has granted no citizenship rights or civil liberties, Israel is free to develop, test, and perfect its surveillance technology on millions of unwilling subjects.

So how did Israel, a small country running a military occupation, become the premier facilitator of transnational repression through cyber-espionage technology?

The answer most likely involves the $3.8 billion a year that Israel receives in US military financing.

Though the US Foreign Military Financing program generally requires that participating countries use the money they receive to buy weapons from US manufacturers—the idea being that US taxpayers’ money should be spent with US suppliers—Israel, the sole exception to this rule, is allowed to spend around 25% of its allotment on its own military industry.

Since this “off-shore procurement” exception for Israel began in 1984, American taxpayers have pumped billions of dollars into the Israeli military industry. Partly as a result, Israel has become the largest per capita arms exporter in the world—and no small part of those exports fall into the category of military intelligence.

Between 2016 and 2020, Israel was eighth on the list of global arms exporters despite ranking around 30th in GDP and 100th in population.

Israel’s prowess in the arms trade is also made possible by the tight relationship between the state’s military intelligence industry and its military intelligence forces, a relationship largely fostered by Unit 8200.

Haaretz has reported that 80% of the founders involved in establishing Israel’s 700 local cyber companies “belong to the exclusive club created in the IDF intelligence units, notably Unit 8200.”

A former leader of Unit 8200 stated it plainly: “This correlation between serving in the intelligence Unit 8200 and starting successful high-tech companies is not coincidental: Many of the technologies in use around the world and developed in Israel were originally military technologies and were developed and improved by Unit veterans.”

What methods of surveillance has Unit 8200 developed in order to surveille Palestinians? The public received a rare glimpse of these practices in 2014, when 43 former members of the unit refused reserve duty, citing the abuses they witnessed as soldiers in a statement they released at the time.

“The Palestinian population under military rule is completely exposed to espionage and surveillance by Israeli intelligence,” they wrote. This surveillance, they continued, “is used for political persecution and to create divisions within Palestinian society by recruiting collaborators and driving parts of Palestinian society against itself.”

The statement’s authors told The Guardian, which reported on the defections, that there were “no rules” governing the surveillance of Palestinians.

As one soldier elaborated in testimony to The Guardian, “Any Palestinian may be targeted and may suffer from sanctions such as the denial of permits, harassment, extortion, or even direct physical injury . . . Any information that might enable extortion of an individual is considered relevant information. Whether said individual is of a certain sexual orientation, cheating on his wife, or in need of treatment in Israel or the West Bank—he is a target for blackmail.”

Another signatory told The Guardian that he decided to refuse reserve duty “when I realised that what I was doing was the same job that the intelligence services of every undemocratic regime are doing.”

Now, Israeli intelligence products are quite literally performing surveillance work for other undemocratic regimes around the world, and ties built and cemented with arms and intelligence deals are embedding Israel in the very center of a global authoritarian axis.

This is another clear reminder that what happens in Palestine doesn’t stay in Palestine. The abuses of the Israeli state against Palestinians—in which US taxpayers are complicit—have consequences around the world.

Cases of Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya…

Are secular and national concepts anathema to Arab/Islamic spirit?

The successive “freer election” processes in the Arab/Islamic States that overturned dictator regimes are bringing in to power Islamic political parties, with almost landslides.

In Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt, where parliamentary elections have proceeded, the Islamic “Muslim Brotherhood” parties called “Party of Justice”, in emulation of the Turkish Islamic party in power, have captured no less than 40% of the votes.

In Egypt, even the ultra-conservative Islam (the Wahhabi Saudi Arabia brand of extreme obscurantism) has come second to the “Muslim Brotherhood” party with about 25% of the votes…

The election laws and procedures are very complicated, favoring the political parties with heavy financial funding from foreign States such as Saudi Monarchy/ Arab Gulf Emirate States/USA..

.The Islamic parties are the best organized and have invested in rural areas for decades: Such as local schools, health services (dispensaries, hospitals…), social services for the poorer communities..

.Basically, filling the vacuum that regimes failed to cover and care for…

Religions in all States have the basic power of rallying the poorer classes and downtrodden around mythical concept that play on the hope of better life, if Not on earth, at least in heaven.

Islam is one of the religion that through daily praying practices assemble millions in specific location. These assemblies are perfect for propagating coded orders to elect specific candidates

Flathead: Occupy Thomas Friedman

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman’s metaphorical pile-ups, hollow analyses, and factual inaccuracies have garnered him three Pulitzer Prizes, and frighteningly unchecked power.

Alas, the point of my new book on Friedman is not to laugh at… the number of times he devises foreign policy prescriptions based on experiences in hotel rooms, restaurants, and airplanes.

Rather, it is to demonstrate the defectiveness in form and in substance of his disjointed discourse, and in doing so offer a testament to the degenerate state of the mainstream media in the United States.

As the world becomes ever more interconnected, Friedman appears to be under the impression that he is licensed to extrapolate observations of select demographic groups, such as Indian call center employees pleased with the opportunities provided them by U.S. corporations, and to issue pronouncements like the following on behalf of humanity: “Three United States are better than one, and five would be better than three.”

Not surprisingly, Friedman does not respond favorably when elements of humanity fail to internalize the aspirations he has assigned them, resulting in anthropological revelations such as that one of the impediments to freedom in the Arab world is “the wall in the Arab mind.”

Friedman explains in 2003 that “I hit my head against that wall” while conversing with Egyptian journalists who “could see nothing good coming from the U.S. ‘occupation’ of Iraq” and who are thus written off as proponents of “Saddamism.”

Belén Fernández: Errata, Flattening Friedman (2011)

David Rees: Get Your War On

To recap:

Friedman, imagining himself Columbus, journeys toward India.

Columbus, he notes, traveled in three ships; Friedman “had Lufthansa business class.” When he reaches India—Bangalore to be specific—he immediately plays golf.

His caddy, he notes with interest, wears a cap with the 3M logo. Surrounding the golf course are billboards for Texas Instruments and Pizza Hut. The Pizza Hut billboard reads: “Gigabites of Taste.” Because he sees a Pizza Hut ad on the way to a golf course, something that could never happen in America, Friedman concludes: “No, this definitely wasn’t Kansas.”

Matt taibbi: Flathead, the peculiar genius of Friedman

Illustration: NY Press

Just when you begin to lose faith in America’s ability to fall for absolutely anything—just when you begin to think we Americans as a race might finally outgrow the lovable credulousness that leads us to fork over our credit card numbers to every half-baked TV pitchman hawking a magic dick-enlarging pill, or a way to make millions on the Internet while sitting at home and pounding doughnuts— along comes Thomas Friedman, porn-stached resident of a positively obscene 11,400 square foot suburban Maryland mega-monstro-mansion.

And husband to the heir of one of the largest shopping-mall chains in the world, reinventing himself as an oracle of anti-consumerist conservationism.

Where does a man who needs his own offshore drilling platform just to keep the east wing of his house heated get the balls to write a book chiding America for driving energy inefficient automobiles?

Where does a guy whose family bulldozed 2.1 million square feet of pristine Hawaiian wilderness to put a Gap, an Old Navy, a Sears, an Abercrombie and even a motherfucking Foot Locker in paradise get off preaching to the rest of us about the need for a “Green Revolution”?

Matt Taibbi: Flat n all that (2009)

The critically funny element in this paragraph is buried in the word “some.”

As if there could be more than one person on earth thinking the following: “I know when the market hits the wall because of the red numbers on the Dow, but Mother Nature doesn’t have a Dow and besides, my 401K is collapsing and I don’t care about the rising sea level.”**

Friedman does this a lot and it’s the weirdest goddamned thing.

He has these Socratic dialogues in his head between imaginary dream-people who sound like they’ve been forced at gunpoint to conduct a Crossfire-style political debate in a room pumped full of rubber cement fumes.

Note: I did read a couples of Friedman books and actually listened to one of his propaganda stints in a major bookstores in Maryland. Kind of you cannot go wrong with the establishment when you boast of their successive decisions to invade and massacre entire populations for decades. And the Palestinians kind of have a psychological barrier with their Zionist occupiers who stole their lands and impose racist/apartheid policies on them in the last 80 years.

Connecting the dots: Terror, Resistance, Extremism, Capitalism, Zionism….

The book of Robert Fisk “Afflictions of a Nation” and who covered the civil war of Lebanon for nine years, is a fantastic document for generations to come.,

Robert Fisk will be missed. He was one of the foreign reporters to be on the site of the massacres in the camps of  Sabra and Chatila in Beirut in 1982.

These camps had civilian Palestinians, downtrodden Lebanese… after the Palestinians fighters vacated to Tunisia and the USA promised the safety and security of the camps

Fisk witnessed the horrors and stench in the camps after 3 nights and 2 days of slaughter-hood and the mass grave that Israel army excavated in the Sport Stadium, pouring loads of chalk on layers after layers of dead bodies.

I wonder if those running and playing in the stadium realize they are exercising on thousands of dead bodies buried underneath them.

Although this civil war was very confusing, intricate, and complex Fisk kept covering the facts and events and interviewing people in distress.

From these documents, we can comprehend the genesis of many factions, events, and changes in political policies and strategies by States involved in the Lebanese civil war,  even though Fisk was overwhelmed and could not connect the dots at the time as a correspondent to The Times.

Fisk covered almost all war disasters, described the barbarity in minute details, in Lebanon and Ireland, and traveled under fire and confronted belligerent factions and road blocks.

Fisk last two years in Lebanon were plagued by frequent string of abductions of foreigners, especially US and French correspondents, media professionals, and other specialties.

Fisk tried his best to keep track of and search for the abducted companions…

Note: I posted several article on the Sabra and Chatila massacres. One of them is a thorough account of an Israeli Journalist/reporter, from A to Z

Fractured State of Reading, Writing, and Publishing: What Kindle has to do with the future?

For a long time I never thought I would have any use for a Kindle.

After all, who wants to read on a computer? And what about marking up the text, dogearing pages, or having more than one book open on my desk at a time?

Well, those behaviors are mostly my self-fueled obsessions when authoring original works of nonfiction.

For recreational reading, the mechanisms for highlighting passages and bookmarking pages on the Kindle are, while somewhat clumsy and indirect, still good enough to get the job done.

And then there’s the instant gratification aspect.

This weekend, I was up at my cabin, at 3000′ elevation and nestled deep in the alpine pinnacles of the Cascade Crest, and I decided that I wanted to read another one of the mystery anthologies edited by Ed Gorman and Martin H. Greenberg because I recently read By Hook or By Crook on the recommendation of Kristine Kathryn Rusch and it was fantastic.

So I just brought up the book in the Kindle store, paged through the related reads, and within sixty seconds of the impulse I was reading Between the Dark and the Daylight.

But now I have to read the bloody thing on my smartphone until my new Kindle arrives.

And while I wait, it occurred to me that the fractured Kindle screen pictured above strikes is a perfect image of the publishing industry and the entire state of reading these days.

The old world has been shattered by feedback loops in technology and ongoing market forces that just keep reinforcing one another.

Paper books ain’t going away soon, but I’ll probably live to see the day where they are uncommon for most titles.

Bookstores will be relegated to specialty boutique status, like the camera and stationery stores populating the deserted shoals of strip-malls.

And you know what that smells like to me?

Opportunity.

The Courier was one example of how these shifts might spawn whole new experiences or categories of devices.

The Amazon Tablet might well be another. But whatever the next hot gadget or gizmo is, rest assured, I feel like a technological wolf, scenting a long series of innovations-to-come in the shifting winds, and I’ll be looking to make a killing. :-)

What of tablets with pen and multi-touch? What of Nicholas Chen’s Multi-Slate Reading System, a federation of cheap slates that you can scatter about your office like the glossy marketing brochures you get in the mail, tossed aside for the day where you may or may not read them? What of flexible, paper-like displays?

We’re still in the stone age here, folks, as far as e-readers are concerned.

We’ll look back fondly on the Kindle and its ilk as the quaint auto-buggies that presaged a sleek, sophisticated, and nearly unrecognizable future.

That’s where I want to be, even if I have to cobble it together with clunky prototypes, Frankenstein monsters of acrylic and delrin etched out by the laser cutter of my dreams.

In the meantime, you could do a lot worse than to follow Kristine Kathryn Rusch and her husband, Dean Wesley Smith, as they talk about what this means for readers and writers and the publishing industry writ large.

And I yet has to try reading on Kindle: I still has no such gizmos because I love hardcover books and read 3 of them at the same moment. Yes, I get bored reading a single story in one setting.

And I love to take notes and share the opinions and expressions that I liked

Titbits Resume 5

In the ancient Northern Syrian City-State of Ugarit, archeologist discovered a tablet that proposed a musical notation in cuneiform that corresponds to current notation.

Kilmer said to Daily Mail:
The hymn confirms a theory that “the 7-note diatonic scale as well as harmony existed 3,400 years ago” writes Richard Fink in a 1988 Archeologia Musicalis article. This “flies in the face of most musicologist’s views that ancient harmony was virtually non-existent (or even impossible) and the scale only about as old as the Ancient Greeks” as reported on OpenCulture.

In 1972 Professor Anne Draffkorn Kilmer, who is a professor of Assyriology at the University of California, developed an interpretation of the song. “’We are able to match the number of syllables in the text of the song with the number of notes indicated by the musical notations. This approach produces harmonies rather than a melody of single notes. But the chances the number of syllables would match the notation numbers without intention are astronomical,”

A simple question: Is it feasible to test whether the immune system was confronted with a certain virus, for example Cocid-19? If it can be done, wouldn’t it be healthier and more logical to test before receiving a vaccine shot?

Isn’t the Covid vaccins a pseudo vaccine? You are Not safe from the multitude of covid variants, You can contaminate people around you, and you can get Covid-19, 6 months later, even after the second shot.

I am “voluntarily” going to the gallow this April 22 to be injected with Pfizer vaccine. “Mass Pressure” is demanding from me to satisfy the invitation to get vaccinated, though I am kind of convinced this is a pseudo vaccine.

In lockdown, the Chinese billionaire Wang Jian arrived on one of the last incoming trains. Flanked by a small entourage of younger scientists, Wang exited the station wearing a mask, a light puffy jacket, and a backpack. Thousands were fleeing the river port metropolis. But Wang came ready to work. During the SARS epidemic in 2003, the now 66-year-old geneticist had been similarly proactive, repeatedly flying to the outbreak epicenter in Guangdong Province to petition authorities to allow his young bioscience firm, the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI), to sequence the deadly respiratory virus’s genome. Wang’s requests were denied until the last moment, after SARS reached Canada and scientists there became the first to sequence it — a national embarrassment for a rising China.

If health officials are lifting mask mandates for the vaccinated, how do I know if the unmasked people around me have gotten their shots? How do I signal to them that I have? And what if I carry the Covid-19 and may transmit it?

Right or wrong, every honest author ought to write his book as if he were going to be beheaded the day he finished it

Is that within Free Speech Fb? More than 16,000 Israelis have joined a Facebook page in 2014 that calls for the murder of a Palestinian every hour until three missing Israeli settler teens are located.

Quelle horreur. Ils détruisent l’intimité de l’âme.

The air-mines to block fighter jets from being launched from military airports will be contemplated soon. These mines will be imperceptible, almost transparent, hard to detect, controlled to move any which-way . And endowed with “Fail-Safe” self destructive mechanism. No charges of explosives: just an envelop of aluminum powder that ignite when sucked by the jet turbines.

Russian authors have the monopoly on gloom: the crippled little girl, from slaving in hard work, is adopted by grouchy old man, simply because she learned to “smile” and act cheerful of the “destiny” she was glued to.

There are critical periods when every Nutcase thinks he is an individualist and acts a dictator. Once a successful “revolutionary” reach definit and consistent stand for a good while, then he becomes barely a two-minutes figure in the press and news media. The media is dead convinced that its “avid” readers crave to be “shocked” by streams of surprising “news”

At least in the USA, Bankruptcy is “a central part of each national financial system”. It is a legal mode, but one that has profound financial implications for any money-holding entity. Individuals, companies, and governments that declare bankruptcy can respectively save their homes, end leases on money-losing locations, and kickstart years of austerity, though they may find it difficult to secure loans in the future.

Still, bankruptcy can offer something truly invaluable: a future chance at financial solvency. (It is the multinational companies and big banks that benefit the most from this legal mode: They can still get loans at a little higher rate to restart their embezzling scheme on the common citizens)

The US has the highest rate of police killings among most wealthy countries, according to a report from the Prison Policy Initiative (PPI), a criminal justice think tank. The report found that the US has at least 3 times the number of police killings compared to Canada (people killed in 10 millions) and more than the combined killing in peer countries in Europe.

Cognitive biases explain why we made a bad decision but rarely help us avoid them in the first place. It’s better to focus on warning signs that signal that a decision might turn wrong: First, You’re tired, emotional, in a rush, or distracted and Second, you’re operating in a group or working with an authority figure

France and Germany consumes 5 billion gallons of potable water that reah homes directly. In France, you have about one million km of canalization and 550,000 km in Germany. Distillation based on 60 criteria of quality of water include: Residues of pesticides, pathogenic and chemical agents, manganese, iron, micro plastic, … Ultra violet radiation treat the disinfection of microbes and bacteria…

Was it harder to find crowds to unleash mass shooting in the US during the pandemics? In fact, 2020 was a record year for firearm deaths, which cost over 19,200 lives—a 25% increase over the previous year, bringing the toll of gun violence to over 653,000 deaths since 2001, far more than what Covid-19 harvested in the last year. And nothing drastic was changed since to curtail private machine gun weapons.

Jesus was Not a Jew, as agreed upon by the Jerusalem sect in the Sanhedrin. The charismatic Jesus is from the province of Tyre (including Galilee and Sidon in the Seleucid empire). Jesus was circumcised during the short period of the extremist jews occupation of the Galilee province. The Temple of the sect of Jesus was in mount Carmel, above Haifa. All Jesus life was spent in that region, before he decided to march toward Jerusalem in the last 6 months of his life

If a mature character can affect positively a woman, then it is far more rewarding when maturity is done in a younger age.

It should be prohibited , with firm prison term for the people who divulged and relayed the sex of the baby to the parents in the echography. What preparations parents are needed whether it is a boy or a girl? The color of the cribbs, the color of the pampers…? One month should be enough to decide on the name and to absorb the “psychological shock“.

Many still hate former Margaret Thatcher PM, even after her death, many are still angry, especially the British working classes and health institutions

How drawing a gun, instead of a Taser, can be that confusing and mishandled? Are the design and the weight of these two objects so similar? Back to the design table, location in wearing the objects or just banning firearms for police forces?

“The Zionists openly say that they will allow Palestinians to choose whether they remain in “Israel” as residents without rights, leave, or fight and be killed by the Israeli forces — these same forces that have been killing them for more than seventy years.”–– Miko Peled

What would be the decision of the colonial powers on the status of this pseudo-State of Lebanon? Would they accept that Lebanon be a buffer zone against a military calamity in the region and thus agree to relinquish part of its total monopoly on the economy (Not financial) to other powers, or to try an all out devastation? My conjecture, the colonial powers would settle on allowing Hezbollah to implicitly and tacitly effectively politically run Lebanon, agreeing on a funtoosh Maronite President and funtoosh Sunni Prime minister. The question remains: Would Iran permit Hezbollah of Lebanon to add power to its curriculum?

As in the story-books, young Isabelle ran into Amory arms As their lips first touched, the rest of the high point of vanity, the crest of his young egotism.

Amory whispered aloud: “Damn it all. Next year I work!” And he realized that his inconsequence, effort would make him aware of his impotence and insufficiency.

F. Scott Fitzgerald did a valiant effort in his “This Side of Paradise“, his first published book, to fine-tune his observation acumen of the society structure of 1920’s , and exhaustively describing the characters. I sense that most of his subsequent books were variations on this cornerstone epic book. He was the precursor of many grown up generations on how to brace with this sinking feeling: “All Gods dead, all wars fought, all faiths in man shaken…”. This cycle has taken a worse despairing feeling that “Nature is dead, quality of air is deadly, and water quality totally polluted…” Nowhere to go for a quiet and healthy lifestyle.

Evidence is mounting that a tiny subatomic particle Muon and far heavier than electron seems to be disobeying the known Standard laws model of physics. The result suggests that there are forms of matter and energy vital to the nature and evolution of the cosmos that are not yet known to science. The suite of standard equations enumerates the fundamental particles in the universe (17, at last count) and how they interact.

The survival process of all the living species…What a humongous strife to survive a few more years… And no end to it

Large, big, miniature, barely visible living creatures… trees and shrubs…all that pain and struggle to live a while longer. All that howling going unnoticed.. And yet, this deafening silence outside the urban centers

The limitations of our sensorial capacities are meant to adequately match human survival process. It is Not the sensorial limited capacity that is the culprit in our shortcoming for observing, seeing, hearing and feeling… It is a fundamental defect in our constitution that is driving Earth to its doom.

Distropic societies? Communities is civil war ravaged States ,where kids were left to fend on their own. And when the war subsides, it is the dysfunctional adults who have to fit the kids into a “peaceful and ordered” structured.

All those pseudo small States are Not fit to human develop their societies: They were robbed of their dignity and self-confidence and are constantly excited to go to war against their pseudo neighboring States. “Win or lose” after the insane war, these States patiently lick their wounds and starve under foreign debts.

Another insanity to cope with: How to combine Ramadan observance with vaccine drives? Kind of taking vaccine shots have to be administered at night, after supper?

Charting USA drug OVERDOSE DEATHS by heart attacks? At least 88,000 people died in the 12 months prior to August 2020—a 27% increase from the same period a year before. Experts estimate that the Covid-19 pandemics has undone a decade’s work of progress in addiction treatment.

A “personage” is the one who learned to carefully select the Next Thing to invest his passion on. You have got to list all the wishes you can recollect and list which wishes you can Do, and then select the One item that your passions care to investigate. and pursue. And the cycle of this process continue. It will be easier the next time around, though the roadblock will be how to divest of all the useless “tools” in order to acquire the appropriate tools for your Next Thing to go after.

The most stupid of all wars is WWI. European countries infrastructure were linked with one another, and you could hop on the Orient Express and reach Istanbul from any city. The infrastructural union was established, but racist and chauvinistic behavior were rooted in those colonial powers: England could Not swallow the fact that Germany exports and navy has surpassed it in world trade.

The second stupidest war is Iraq-Iran war of 1981 that lasted 8 years: over a million Iranians and 300,000 Iraqis, just to please the colonial powers interest of weakening the two valuable and potential oil States in the Middle East. Even Russia joined the fray exporting weapons to Saddam Hussein with the latest weapons, including poisonous gas, delivered by long-range missiles that reached the Capital Tehran.

Mass Vaccination during a pandemics will spread more dangerous variants of the Covid-19. This is known in the first year in medical studies. Kind of wait until the pandemics subside? The nations that adopted mass vaccination will experience immeasurable consequences after a few weeks of the campaign.

A coup d’etat in monarchic Jordan? Just a Scare tactics. The screenplay of this pseudo coup is barely believable. As if this created pseudo-State of Jordan has even been able to deviate from US orders since its inception in 1921. Amrak sido

“Sick building syndrome” enters the lexicon in 1980s as Buildings were designed for an exterior look, ignoring what was going on inside, especially using cheap toxic industrial materials.
In 2010, the Green Buildings movement embraces the notion of Healthy Buildings, which keep both environmental and human health in mind.

Actually, one of the main reasons why the colonial powers hated the Syrian people is that Syria didn’t owe a dime to any foreign country. Syria was self-sufficient in almost everything. No foreign (sovereign) debt). Before 2011, the start of the induced civil war.

A true leader selects his assistants among those who have the courage to question orders. A leader should seek those who believe they are entitled to think and be convinced, before obeying orders.

You come alive when the time come to choose to pay careful attention to what feeds and sustains your passionate love.

We certainly get old quickly, but it is doubtful that we grew up. To grow up costs the earth. It means you take responsibility for the time you take up, for the space you occupy. It’s serious business. And you find out what it costs us to love and to lose, to dare and to fail. And maybe even more, to succeed.

Is Deliberate practice is the best technique for achieving expert performance in every field—like in writing, teaching, sports, programming, music, medicine, therapy, chess, and business (if you saved enough to lose many times)…? Deliberate practice means practicing with a clear awareness (laser focused) of the specific components of a skill we’re aiming to improve and exactly how to improve them.

The invention of Religion, the main nemesis for the Natural human development, thwarted every attempt at a harmonious “compassionate” living-together” among ourselves, nature and all the other living species.

Orphaned oil and gas wells? Many leaking methane gas and spouting pollutants, are poised to pop up around the US, threatening groundwater and air quality. Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan to the tune of $16 billion, the goal of plugging wells nationwide is urgent: Methane is 10 times worse than CO2 for the warming of the atmosphere

China has double Vietnam reserve in Rare Earths. Chinese rare earth giant Shenghe Resources has a roughly 10% stake at Australia-listed Greenland Minerals. The fate of the Kvanefjeld project, a proposed rare earth and uranium mine in southern Greenland, is at the center of Greenland’s elections.

The left won Greenland’s snap election. The Inuit Ataqatigiit party got 37% of the votes. It opposes a rare earths mining project with major geopolitical and economic implications.

I received a message for my turn to be vaccinated with Pfizer. I am very weary. All those talks about “sciences”, which is controlled and manipulated by politics for mass vaccination is Not convincing, even if 650 million Pfizer shots have already been administered. My experimental mind is telling me to wait for another 3 months. What is your position?

The “lost generation” of 1920’s grew up to find “all gods dead, all are fought, all faiths in man shaken'”. The cycle resumes for every generation. This time around: “All Nature is dead, quality of air dead, water quality dead…”

“The vision of the historical mission of Great Britain as Sea Power . From his point of view, with which those present agreed, the sea power or Sea Power is a special type of identity that distinguished the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and then the Venetians, the Dutch and the British in antiquity.” Actually, every time England sensed that its sea superiority is challenged, then it initiated a pre-emptive war, by herself or with paid allied. The case of Germany before WWI is striking.

Gas flaring? Wasted natural gas emitted from oil/gas sources. It is responsible for at least 1% of global carbon emissions, wasting hundreds of millions of dollars of natural resources while endangering our environment at the same time.
Bitcoin miner Sergii Gerasimovich turned waste/flaring gas into electricity with a generator. He could keep his mining farm afloat while cleaning up a notoriously dirty industry.

More than a year into the Covid-19 pandemic, we still don’t have clear answers on the Origin Of the virus. Did it cross over from bats? Was it leaked from a lab? The answer matters because it can help the world be more prepared for the next pandemic. (My conjecture is How it was spread so wildly: through the thousands of US military soldiers based in hundreds locations around the world)

A fitting analogy: Finance capitalists are vultures. The vulture can claim that his mission is to clean up the environment of carcasses, when in fact he is feeding on the carcasses of the fired workers and their families who will have to look to alternative hard to find jobs and survived on the little.

Both parties, the “terrorist extremist factions” and the Anti-terrorists factions adopt the same slogan “Allah Akbar”. The third way faction that drops Allah altogether must be in the right direction.

Women all over the words are the main sustainable demonstrators, the hardest to dissuade from when undertaken, the source of the support mechanism and logistics. Tough when she make up her mind to recover her rights. When she does Not participate in a march, it is because she figured out that the instigators are dwarfs and jokers

It is the colonial powers that are the most afraid to be brought to the ICC. Even if the complaints fail, just being confronted with crimes they never contemplated will be held in court is traumatic for their faked claims of justice, liberty, human rights and democratic system superiority after WWII.

We can’t learn from experience without reflection: repeating the same mistaken process does Not add years to your experience. Only reflection allows us to distill experience into something we can learn from to make better decisions in the future. Keep a learning journal and daily ponder on it.

Lebanon political system is afraid of forming a government because whatever decisions it might take is going to ignite a mass revolt: No decision of the civil war “leaders” can uplift the spirit of the people or rob them of the scarce money they still have. It would great that the list of decisions be displayed ahead of time for the active organizations to have a say and possible “reasonable” alternative

The “American Revolution” was contrary to human rights: It was launched in order to preserve the “rights’ to import slaves for the plantations. Almost all first Presidents were slave owners and by the hundreds. Most lush towns and palaces in Charleston, Savanna…were erected by the blood and sweat of the slaves.

China as the world’s largest refiner of raw crude oil, deposing the title to the US, home to more oil refineries than any other country. Over 14 million barrels a day. When oil prices fall, the government pays Chinese refiners to increase production.

Why 9 of the 10 “happiest” countries in the world are in Europe? Is it because of higher level of human rights criteria? Such as free preventive health care, affordable schooling, and extended free-time for pregnant women, higher transparent political system…?

The humble, 6-inch nasal swab used in the testing process for respiratory viruses like Covid-19 is manufactured in 2 family facilities?

More than 100 million pieces of atmospheric debris larger than a millimeter that can damage or destroy an expensive satellite or threaten the lives of astronauts. What’s worse, researchers fear that proliferating debris could start a vicious cycle, which in the worst-case scenario could render orbits around Earth unusable, even preventing future rocket launches

Thousands of bitcoin ATMs have been installed in the US. They’re popping up at gas stations, vape shops, and delis.

If the rational mind is the first law for human decisions and social laws, then the experimental mind is the main process and the deep conscience for human rights and dignity is the guiding rod

When undertaking any “Design”, designing products or programs, the first initial facts to gather are for the health and safety of the users of the design. This is called “getting things right” from the start.

That is how I have been try to write, using mostly ordinary words (Not many slang) and short simple sentences. What is easier to read, the more deeply readers will engage with your opinion. The less energy they expend on your prose, the more they’ll have left for your ideas to ponder upon

Almost everything industrial is very smooth, round, flat, corrugated, and so on. In nature, very few shapes are simple, almost every thing is raw, rough and complex

After the crazy period of building franzily ( products, programs, systems, and institutions), the byproduct of this period of building is maintenance and we haven’t figured out how to meta-maintain. The enemy for emergent sclerosis for the existing install base is the status quo bias. The US simply has a very large existing install base of aged institutions and systems. Patrick Collison (Complement with this interview). Most “buildings” in China are practically new and modern and the economy is progressing in bounds.

A year from now you will wish you had started today? A year ago, not many individuals or companies knew that “Normal Life” will be over in order to figure out an alternative lifestyle and behavioral change

With less context to guide our decisions, the number of subjects on which “we all agree” is shrinking fast. In its extreme form of low-context culture, we tend to bear on endless chatter, frequent argument; everyone telling you what they think, all the time. Remind you of anything?”

Late Lou Ottens invented the cassette tape and  helped develop the compact disk as well.

The US House passed the $1.9 trillion stimulus package. The cumulative package since Trump has surpassed the $4 trillions. And nothing to show in economic recovery. Just printed money that does Not match any internal market expansion. Add the 30 trillion national debt, mostly owed to China and Japan in treasury bills.

Due to the American economy’s size and the fact that the US dollar is the world’s main reserve currency, the country has an exceptional capacity to sell bonds that are in high demand around the world. This is the trick: If you can sell bonds, your rating by Moody, Fitch and S&P is high. Many countries have less than 50% debt to GNP and still are rated far worse than colonial power nations with over 120% debt to GNP. The other trick is the colonial powers have privileged borrowing standards among themselves, at less than 3% interest rate.

The optimist of the “half-full” is a measure of the physical reality under discussion: they attend to what is real

Is it true that every person has a fixed Thinking Rate?

We care less of what people tell us of their pains and frustrations: We know that the only story we care to communicate is the variety of our pains, aches and frustrations…

White colonial debt? If the colonial owe it to the poorer nations, then they better Forgot the debt. If the poorer nations owe it to the colonial nations, the entire population had to pay it with their blood, blood to the knees. And No financial retribution for the evil colonial periods. And the process continues

Les gens que je ne connais pas ne me detestent pas: Je laisse cette prérogative aux cousins proches

In 2020, as Covid-19 spread and States closed airports and ordered drastic confinement methods, 250,000 German tourists and business men were trapped overseas on 60 countries. Germany needed an entire month and $60 millions to repatriate all these citizens.

I watched a movie where people lose the sense of taste: You can live of wheat and fat, as well as on any thing handy. Restaurants re-open with the same sophisticated menus: It is your imagination that is in control for your satisfaction. It become much worse when the sense of hearing goes also. I can communicate by writing in 3 languages, but what of the other people?

I am leisurely reading 4 books simultaneously: one chapter from each book a day. “Till we have faces” by CS Lewis, “This side of paradise” by F Scott Fitzgerald, “A place called Freedom” By Ken Follett and “Le gone du Chaaba” by Azouz Begag

Loyalty in reading. If the lebanese were encouraged to read, their loyalty will shift from those civil war “leaders” and toward a unified secular State

Many of us got their PhD overseas and worked on all kinds of minimum wage jobs to survive. Al karama, Pride is snatched by hard work for a better situation in order to be of aid to other fellows. Pride is to engage in confronting injustice and indignity to all living species. Pride is to confront all pre-emptive wars and those fomenting civil wars.

The highrise bidonvilles in France have robbed the immigrants from a natural environment where they could meet everyday and practice their customs. No surprises for them feeling depressed and the youth inclined to violent.

I finished “Till we have faces”by CS Lewis. It had a few great chapters. I wish Lewis wrote instead a few novellas from his “borrowed” idea on Cupid and Psyche. Author end up forcing the book in order to fill “required” number of pages.

Question: Is there any way to find more about Hassan Kamel Sabbah (the electrical scientific genius) family tree? I have searched everywhere. I’m from the sabbah family and I’m looking to see if I could perhaps be related to him. Reply: One lead in Lebanon is the Shia sect archive for his civil status in Nabatieh, then the AUB archives, and the university he attended in the USA, then Library of Congress…Especially his many patents. Hiring a dedicated investigative reporter will facilitate the job.

The format allows employees to participate in the IPO and increases transparency, leveling the playing field for a wider array of potential investors. It also, theoretically, insulates from first-day IPO pops… Is the IPO too firmly entrenched to be disrupted?

Unity Software’s deal in September —a hybrid of an auction and a more traditional IPO—showed us that the process of going public is still being pulled into the future.

The Tactical Staff (Walking stick contraption) was created by hikers looking for a little extra safety and security on the trail. When assembled into it’s full length of over 43”, the Tactical Staff becomes a formidable defensive tool; weighing in at a hefty 3 pounds of aerospace grade 6061 aluminum, the Tactical Staff is strong enough to defend you while still being light enough for you to carry all day. Primarily designed as a survival tool, the Tactical Staff contains the following built in tools:

✅ A harpoon point✅ A knife and saw✅ A firestarter✅ A fish scaler✅ A hammer✅ A glass breaker✅ Built in internal compartments for carrying valuables

La vie a deux, se surveiller soi-même et surveiller l’autre, pour retenir la dignité et la complaisance, est une occupation trop demandante. Didn’t I warm early on that it is the children and youth whom spread the Covid, though Not being detected forcefully? And for political reason?

Tidbits Resume #4

The big Baobab tree preserves large quantity of fresh water in its trunk. The baobab can reach 30 meters high, live more than 1,000 years and won’t need rain for 10 years to survive. Tribes learned to excavate an entrance in the trunk in order to extract badly needed water in dry seasons. The baobab is as good a source as aquatic wells.

As the dry season starts, chameleons all die. The hidden eggs in the deep soil will have to fend for themselves.

In the period between the first vaccine injection of Covid and the second inoculation the immune system drops dangerously. My conjecture is that the many varieties of Covid surfaced during the secret testing of the vaccine. Lebanon is the turntable of all the family varieties of Covid flocking from UK, South Africa, Israel and Danmark…

“The Israeli army arrested 41 Palestinians last week in 17 raids carried out across the West Bank in one night. Of those detained, 24 were from Mugayir and Kafr Malik, two adjacent villages northeast of Ramallah whose residents demonstrate every week against their lands being taken over by Israeli settler outposts.”– Amira Hass

Biden said what amount to: “we are Not going to demand from nations to do what we cannot give and apply as examples to follow”. Sure, Biden has the habit of Not quoting sentences that impress audiences. Hoping that older age agrees with good pronouncement.

Impotence is covering your violent heart with a cloak of nonviolence rhetorics.

“Traînée de poudre”, spreading Covid like wildfire: Lebanon actually reached contamination of 10,000 per day, the highest rate per number of population. Most of the cases, as everywhere else, are located in disinherited people living in crowded camps and shantytowns.

When 30% of the “working force” are employed in government institutions and most of them barely show up to work, and yet get paid…how can this State surmount its economic and financial deficits?

The worst among enemies (religious sects) are those branded “heretics” by the dominant religious sect. This label extends to political parties and ideologies. Most of the savage wars around the world and empires were conducted under the excuse of fighting heretics

Though most “Protestants”, of so-called Christian sects, adopt the Jewish mythological stories and barely rely on the New testament, they considered the “Jews” living in ghettos as “heretics”, and vice versa. Pogromes and persecutions had a deep connotation for the common people as Jews being heretics to the dominant religion in every nation.

Trump refused to fool the US voters that he learned to act as a President to all: he preferred to position himself as the Leaders of the hooligan factions

It was thanks to the campaign efforts of Obama and Sanders to rally the Democrats and select Biden as the party candidate to confront Trump. They figured out that this “lukewarm candidate” cannot be attacked convincingly by Donald as “communist” or left leaning. Obama had to settle in California in order to rally his supporters to vote for Biden as Dem. candidate as Biden was already considered the biggest loser in the initial primaries.

I agree with George Orwell: “If you cannot write, you cannot think (properly), and others will think for you”. I assume that Orwell meant: If you cannot observe (consciously observe what is going around you) and note down accurately what roil your set of values…then you are Not fit to write for others to think clearly.

Historical question if there are data: During the “Spanish Flu” pandemics that reaped over 20 millions within 2 years, I wonder when people started to wear the masks and how masks decreased the level of contamination.

General knowledge is important to know the context of speeches, articles and books, when context is Not directly provided. Without understanding of the context, what we hear or read fall within the abstract domain and is Not retained.

Why islands and shorelines that experience devastating frequent hurricanes and tsunamis still rebuild at the same places?

Can you spread Covid-19 if you get the vaccine? The short answer is: We don’t know yet. Why?
The first reason for that is practical: Vaccines’ priority is preventing exposed individuals from getting sick, so that’s what the clinical trials for Covid-19 shots were designed to determine.
We simply don’t have public health data to answer the question of transmission yet.
The second reason is immunological. From what we know so far, Covid-19 vaccines cause the body to produce a class of antibodies called immunoglobulin G, or IgG antibodies.
These antibodies are heavyweights: They react swiftly to all kinds of foreign entities. They make up the majority of our antibodies, and are confined to the parts of our body that don’t have contact with the outside world, like our muscles and blood.
But to prevent Covid-19 transmission, another type of antibodies could be more important. The immune system that patrols your outward-facing mucosal surfaces—like the nose, throat, lungs, and digestive tract—relies on immunoglobulin A, or IgA antibodies.
People who get sick and recover from Covid-19 produce a ton of these more-specialized antibodies, but we don’t yet know how well existing vaccines incite them.
Because of all that complication, it’s unlikely that immunological research alone will reveal how well vaccines can prevent Covid-19 transmission—at least, not for years.
Until then, community spread is the best way to tell if a vaccine can stop a person from transmitting a virus to others.

One of these strains—scientists call it B.1.1.7—originated in the UK. Viruses in the B.1.1.7. lineages have small modifications on their spike proteins. Instead of one set of amino acids, which are the biological Legos that make proteins, they have others—like swapping out a blue brick for a red one. This building-block switcheroo makes the spike protein better able to attach to our cells and infect them, microbiologist and immunologist David Topham told Quartz.

Lebanon and Jordan States were created before the State of Israel in order to become “buffer zones” for the “security” of the programmed creation of the colonial powers implanted colony of Israel in 1948.

During the Spanish Flu pandemics, starting in 1920, people figured out that wearing a mask is very much a common sense protection. Still the Flu harvested over 20 million around the world. If we say that the global population increased 3 fold since then, should we expect that 60 million should die before Covid gives us a reprieve? With vaccines or no vaccines, since at least 3 billion will never get that vaccine?

Gotta admit it’s really something to see Wall Streeters with a long history of treating our economy as a casino complain about a message board of posters also treating the market as a casino Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@AOC

Marshall plan? Two years after the war, Europeans were totally down and drowning in poverty. The plan was supposed to have “saved” western Europe, and with extreme difficulty preventing it from rallying communist Russia by extending what corresponded to a month in expense during the war or $5 bn (currently $50 bn). Capitalist USA dispatched its surpluses, monopolized the sea trade, “looted” the minerals in the French colonies and gained global markets for her trades. Effectively, The Aid returned to the USA.

The Elite classes (especially Old Money) in every nation are establishing this malediction “truth” that they are a fatality to accept and bow down to. This monopolistic class own everything, while the other classes, even middle classes, lack of everything to sustain their autonomy. Actually, after every world calamity, it is the middle class that retrograde in “wealth” and blend with the poorer classes.

Just a hypothesis, and a good conjecture too: what we eat and how we eat and how much we eat is a minor factor to obesity. Tha main factor is the kinds of physical exercise we undertake to allow the brain to pick up the nutrient the body needs and what to excrete. Physical exercises shake the brain out of its torpeur of minding only the necessary sugar it needs for mental tasks.

So far, all US citizens of “color” and “immigrants” who acceded to the highest political positions behaved as “sheep” and were crushed by the deep institutions, including Obama and Colin Powell and the score of women.

My deepest wish is that Vice President Kamala Harris will stand tall for international values and reverse this “sheep” trend and prevent Biden from engaging in pre-emptive wars, under all kinds of lame excuses from the “establishment”

The Incompetent Infants in charge of the community: Don’t seek management or leadership if fishing, video games, or playing golf are your greatest aspirations. Anyone who thinks responsibility is easy is irresponsible. You learn to embrace responsibility when you learn the value of doing hard things.

When she trod on mud, mud is nicer. when she run in the rain, rain is a welcomed silver. when she picks u a toad, this creature looks the most lovely among its species.

Daughter, those sorts of jealous Gods you are mentioning are all folly and lies of poet and cleric. Go figure out how these two meet in the same functions.

Do Not expect to live beyond 85 anymore. If it is Not just from recurrence of various pandemics, it is the Stress generated from dashed hopes for Return to global Normalcy. Program your life accordingly.

I read 3 books at the “same time”. Otherwise I get bored. If I am pressured to focus on a single book, pretty soon I realize that the author is trying to cram the book with faked ideas, faked emotions… and rarely the good personal experiences.

If you can avoid the pressures of multinational education monopoly, don’t take the IQ test and other tests that are supposed to evaluate you aptitudes and intelligence. You do share all the attribute of high IQ people: bored from society, bored at school, never happy at any paid job, self-discipline is to be desired, and feel that I’m better than anyone else except in manual work and group sports.

Travel in 2021 is going to be a stop-and-go journey, as governments and businesses try to figure out an equitable plan to get things back to normal.  Be prepared to have the vaccin Passport on you

We have discussed this folly of “jealous Gods” a hundred times: The Divine Nature is without jealousy.

If you agree with the notion that input will eventually equal output, then when you do more than you are paid for, eventually you’ll be paid for more than you do. The universal law: we reap what we sow and we get what we give.

The Agro food industries add around 30 kinds of additives. A few of them contains nanoparticles, which means they can cross the intestines and flow with the blood and degrade many organs ( cancers). Eventually, these nano-ingredients will be banned and the multinational will be unable to contest the electronic microscopes (the power of technology). For example, the dioxyde of Titanium or additive E71, just to “whiten” the product. Several ingredients are mainly used to retain water, thus adding half of the weight in the sold products

Most of these chemical additives in food are pure poisons et supposedly just used to satisfy the idiosyncrasies of clients in the look, the color and consistency of the food. I doubt the multinational food industries experiment on the specific idiosyncrasies of clients around the globe, just imposing the “palate”/taste and smell of the colonial powers idiosyncrasies. Obesity, diabetes and cancer causing ingredients… are Not labeled “Can kill you” as in cigarette boxes.

Lately, pressured by “Green Food” campaigns and alternative food preparations, many agro-businesses substitute a few ingredients with “Auxiliary technology” ingredient/products, which are Not required to be listed as ingredients, because these ingredients disappear after the food is cooked. Many of these Auxiliary technology ingredients are enzymes types and proteins, even those extracted from cow bloods.

Lately, the best way that I “know” if I sleep is that I could recall I had a dream. Most of the dreams I cannot stand: I am being humiliated and cannot react accordingly. I respond with a half-waking sleep to cope with my lethargy to react and then I force myself to wake up. And I spend a few hours watching lousy movies, feeling in a wretched diminished state.

In a lengthy documentary on Agro industries. the business could eliminate 20 out of the 30 ingredients for a healthy product and substitute many with “natural” ingredients.

Don’t dwell on this irrational harang: “Resist to your famine in the name of Nationalism“. At least 3 billion people are degraded to accept the misery of their “destiny” in order to satisfy imperialistic economy.

Mammalian scientists claim that it is the females that start the process of mating season. I cannot buy these one-way cause and effects. I conjecture that the males vastly contribute to this process with their cry of “distress” to mate. And the female respond by increasing the level of their pheromone , a catalyst to entice the mating.

I think many would like to die in their sleep, preferable while dreaming of a hot Sexy story in order to go straight to heaven and compare with the Houris

If paying attention to your breathing for a couple of minutes is so hard, how getting curious of the level of addiction to smoking and consuming alcohol is a simple task? How the tastes and feels of addictive substances is tagged as a simpler task?

Many people climbed the highest mountains in their profession, only to discover they were climbing the wrong mountain that didn’t deliver on the proper emotions and desires.

Any which way you think of it, Life has no meaning in the end. The best way to sustain this foolish reality is to learn to be confident in the passion of the talent you are endowed with.

Most financial bubbles are often engineered by governments, especially powerful Nations that has the right to print money at wish. With plenty of cash money in the market, the government increase the interest rate for stocks that are issued, until the economic reality blow the faked wealth.

Janssen says its Covid-19 vaccine can prevent 66% of symptomatic cases, Janssen’s vaccine shines by another metric: reducing the severity of the disease, potentially freeing up hospital beds. “To keep people out of the hospital and prevent death—this is value added,” said Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute on Allergy and Infectious diseases on NBC Nightly News. Actually, the other vaccines dispatch 2% of the takers to intensive care units.

“People start being interested in something because it’s going up, not because they understand it or anything else. But the guy next door, who they know is dumber than they are, is getting rich and they aren’t.”Warren Buffett, investor and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway

The living elites in a community are those “gifted” enough to give as much physical pleasure to women, as women felt liberated enough to enjoy what they are endowed to for quality pleasures.

How can anyone who love to read books never try to write?

How can anyone spend an entire day and night and Not read in a book?

How can anyone grow up and Not try to learn to read books?

Are you still waiting for a wish to take a life of its own, without you trying to cause it to happen?

No need to get older to learn a new set of behaviors, like observing intently and asking plenty of nonsense questions

Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar sacrificed millions of Rohingya out of the country for a faked return to “civilian democratic” system: She is Not the proper symbol of “freedom” to die for.

The Second Cold War is in full swing between China and the USA: US out of South-East Asia. Myanmar is the first stage in that war.

Till we have faces? What if we were denied eyes? Wouldn’t we be fitter for survival? Would have we been able to invent racism and hatred?

And you start reading biographies of these old crooks (Old Money) who “whitened their highway-robbery schemes” decades ago, and how their inheritors legitimately resumed the same crooked behavior: They were elected to political offices and they finance election campaigns, and fund lobbies for special interest laws.

Both Putin and Biden will settle on a neutral iran in the grand strategy to corner China. A neutral position at the cost what in Iran ideology? Ideology, and a theocratic ideology to boot it, is hard to reach a compromise to it. Another decade of calamities and suffering is waiting for us

The current Biden confronting position on Russia is meant to dangle the carrot of a neutral Russia policy and Not totally siding with China’s long-term policies. Giving in on Stream 2 to feed Germany with Russia gas might open the door for serious negotiation

“It’s not true that more feedback is better. It’s also not true that coaches provide the best feedback. There are two main types of feedback. There is feedback that’s internally generated and feedback that’s externally generated.” This binary choice is Not feasible: I lean toward the intersection of the 2 kinds of feedback that construct your character, depending on how steadfast and confident you are with your capabilities.

You are invisible to me, until you engage in confronting corruption of people and in institutions

Good procrastination? Working on something you think is more important than what you are supposed to finish? Like deciding to sit down and read a hard-covered book? Kind of avoiding different kinds of tangent works, such as doing errands for people and family members. It is Good in a sense that the people who want you to do the errands won’t think it’s as good as giving them some help in their daily chores and maintenance tasks . But you probably have to annoy them if you want to get anything done.”

The US governments and European governments have spent lavishly to boost the “economy” (extending free money to the poorer classes) during the pandemic, and if history is any guide it’s likely to keep it up. The school of economic theory associated with British economist John Maynard Keynes recommends governments spend freely during recessions, then tighten their belts during booms. But historically that’s not always what happens. The question is :”How booms will ever come when the world trade is being closed and restricted? And how much the economy should grow to cover that huge printing of worthless money?)

” The difference lies in how well you’ve prepared. If you make an effort in training when you don’t especially feel like making it, the payoff is that you will win games when you are not feeling your best. That is how you win championships, that is what separates the great player from the merely good player.” Rafael Nadal in Rafa (p. 287)

The wrong and quickly fixed solution costs a fortune as in redesign, reparation for court trials for safety and health. Invest largely on the proper solutions and design for the users and clients

The laws were enacted for those with the “power” to enforce them, and advocate at court to complaints?

I totally disagree: Laws should Not be mere tools and weapons for those who pick them and use them, and laws should be the mark of decisions. This can be done when the programs of candidates to Parliament are a set of laws, with details of the new system to replace the laws that were enacted by the previous Victors. And the program should include the Laws that need to be revoked and annulled to represent the rights of the voters who brought new Victors to rule in power in their name.

“It’s no place for a Lady” was a red rag to the defiant bull lady. Same for door marked “No entry”

Organizations like the Jewish National Fund, AIPAC and the Zionist Organization of America have historically adhered to a limited ideology that has gone largely unchanged for 7 decades. Their ideology sells Israel as a post-Holocaust bastion of security for the Jewish people and a perpetual underdog. There was substantial support for Zionism on the American left around the time of Israel’s founding, especially French and British left-leaning parties. All these political parties, including the conservative parties were trying to best one another in establishing this apartheid colonial State.

But after the 1967 Six Day War, which saw Israel occupy the Golan, West Bank, Gaza and Sinai, Israel increasingly ran afoul of growing anti-colonial sentiment among those on the left. But to more traditional American Zionists, it was not Israel that changed, but the left itself

Sarassin? This term was used by the Spanish and later western nations to label the occupiers of Spain (regardless of their origins, as long as they claim to be Muslims). In the Syriac language, Shaarikeen (Sarassin) were the bedouins tribes whose main chattel were Camels. These bedouins performed two seasonal transfer for their locations. From their original “permanent location” where sources of water are relatively “abundant” and the grass is green (from early May to the middle of September) and the second seasonal trip (middle September to late April) toward regions where rain started to fall and the grass is greener . The direction is to follow the Northern wind, generally eastward (Shark). Thus, the western culture labelled those occupiers who expanded northward (all of Spain and even France) toward regions where rain was plentiful and green grass aplenty during autumn and winter seasons. Shaarikeen is a label to all those bedouins tribes, regardless of which desertic region (interior of the “Arabian Peninsula) or the Syrian eastern desert by the Euphrates River.

We’re all biased species. It becomes an unconscious behavior. Our experiences (and idee-fixe in our surrounding) shape who we are. The perception of our race, ethnicity, gender, height, weight, sexual orientation, place of birth, and other factors impact the lens with which we view the world. How can we recognize and acknowledge our own biases? Does identifying our kinds of biases (like affinity bias, halo bias, perception bias, and confirmation bias) make a difference in our daily decisions or change our viewpoints?

The generation of Rousseau made sure to badly bruise and persecute Jean-Jacques. Even the establishment of Great Britain, via David Hume who invited him there, made Rousseau feels as an insignificant entity and being implicitly persecuted. Rousseau new writing style of baring frankly his limitations and foibles in minute details was a good leverage to pounce on the political and social system. The generation after his death, at the age of 66, took its revenge and the Revolution buried Rousseau at the Pantheon in an apotheose ceremony.

Didn’t I warm early on that it is the children and youth whom spread the Covid, though Not being detected forcefully? And for political reason?

Unity Software’s deal in September —a hybrid of an auction and a more traditional IPO—showed us that the process of going public is still being pulled into the future.
The format allows employees to participate in the IPO and increases transparency, leveling the playing field for a wider array of potential investors. It also, theoretically, insulates from first-day IPO pops… Is the IPO too firmly entrenched to be disrupted?
On Dec.16, the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said that employers can require employees to get vaccinated before entering the workplace. We asked legal scholar Ana Santos Rutschman, who teaches a course on vaccine law at Saint Louis University, to explain the decision and the rights employees and employers have.
Here’s a sample:
Can US employers require employees to get a vaccine? Yes, with some exceptions.
Even Covid-19 vaccines, since they’re so new? That’s the current interpretation, yes.
What about religious or disability exemptions? Yes, technically, but there’s some gray area.

They are migrants/immigrants/refugees. They are Not “ordinary people“. They are “pseudo-citizens” of States created artificially by the colonial powers and still dominated by the colonial powers through all kinds of “pre-emptive wars”, civil wars, sanctions and mass punishments. They are the disinherited people of the basic minimum of human dignity, human rights and fair play in the most terrifying of circumstances. And they want to experience what “normal people” keep shouting out loud “Liberty, Fraternity, Democracy…”. They want to survive all the injustices and limitations imposed on them for basic food, medications for curable diseases, potable water, Not polluted lands and rivers. A decision of last resort to “Stand tall” in dinghies and makeshift tents, trying to keep their families safe. 900 of these “Not so ordinary people” have drowned in seas because States are closing borders to “welcome” those “savages”.

Many commented that Macron needed Not test himself before meeting our maligned sectarian leaders: A few deaths among them would have cleared the path for a significant political change.

After Macron tested positive to Covid: Macron en the phone: “Allo, Professor Raoult?

A worthy mythology: A woman who didn’t want that the father name to be known would attribute the birth to the pink dolphin. And the baby enjoyed special attention from the tribe

Le soir meme, le mari m’appelle sur Whatsapp. Comment il a pu me trouver? J’ai repondu: “considère mon commentaire comme une bonne blague”. Il parait que le mari a un sens de l’humour très développé: il ne m’ a plus appelé.

Si La vie finit toujour mal, de quoi esperons nous? On travaille pour des naissances qui vont finir mal en tout cas. We fill our moments to forget the bottom line.

Archaeologists discovered 12,500-year-old rock paintings in the Colombian Amazon. Tens of thousands of artworks depict humans and Ice Age animals including mastodon, horses, and fish.

Sanmitsu is Japan’s buzzword of the year… It refers to the “three C’s” of social distancing—avoiding closed spaces, crowds, and close-contact situations.

We care less of what people tell us of their pains and frustrations: We know that the only story we care to communicate is the variety of our pains, aches and frustrations…

Starting from the end result: The level of respect for a decent death is How we can bind human dignity to the living.

The process of Scientific work is Not over until the results are communicated to the lay public

The origin of humanity is located along the rivers.

A reminder: September 11, 1973: Pinochet air bomb the Presidential Palace of Allende. A reminder that Capitalism oversea policy is: “Total annihilation of any movement that comes to power and that seeks change to the political status quo”

Hezbollah deeply believes in the Shia sect as the true guiding rod and will Not be able to establish this modern secular system that the Syria National Social ideology is meant to institute in the society. We all know that, and this is going to be the main hindrance in the future for overcoming a well structured theocratic movement.

I feel that many members of Hezbollah fought and gave their life with the tacit acceptance that they are martyrs (shayeed) for Allah. Though more of them are sacrificing their lives for the “dignity” of our people and their families. That Hezbollah managed to overcome Lebanon’s social environment and sustain its movement is thanks to Iran support and political counsel.

If we had a serious movement that united the secular citizens who believe that Israel is an implanted colony and our existential enemy, then the foreign pressures on Hezbollah will be welcomed for initiating a national dialogue for a secular political program with Hezbollah. At this junction, we can feel that Hezbollah is a strong supporter for maintaining and strengthening the sectarian structure to his benefit.

The main question is: How can a secular movement be able to counter this overwhelming unity among the sectarian parties and movements that are well armed and determined to rule? If the colonial powers were acting in good faith in their actions and activities, a different situation could have evolved. So far, the colonial powers pressures on Hezbollah are totally counter productive and grounding Hezbollah deeper in Lebanon social fabric.

Yalla. Covid-19 has become a passe-partout “cause of death“. You don’t die of Ebola, Sarl, or other sisters of Corona…. You just died of Covid-19. I am under the impression that the “Spanish flu” that harvested more than 20 millions after WWI might be a nasty kind of Covid-19.

Etre assez intelligent, assez bon, assez prevoyant, assez… n’aident a rien. C’est l’autre moitié, (l’autre assez) qui fait défaut et qui prévaut. Justement, c’ est “l’autre assez” qui est le plus intéressant.

The democratic process, allowing the base to vote, has the advantage to open up freedom of opinions, debates and a wider communication among the members. The trustee system (Senate, representative chambers, majles Oumanaa2) might look good logically because a gathering of educated and experienced members, and might be the best alternative at the beginning, but it usually becomes obsolete to the base and inevitably leads to dictatorship of a certain political class of elders with vested interests.

It is impossible to contemplate the Zionists and US extremist Protestants still living under this heap of crap of fake knowledge, myths and racist ideology. Israel is surviving under this mound of shit and forbidden to criticize its apartheid policies.

When those States drop “La Ilaha illa Allah” from their flags, when they drop from their Constitutions that Shari3at is the foundation of the laws, when they drop that a religious sect is the religion of the State, when they drop the concept that women’ brain is half that of men…Then, you may ask me “How do you foresee the future for these people?”

Oh Palestinians, Jordanians, Lebanese, Syrians, Iraqis: You should Not cow down to the colonial powers directives that you are living on individual Islands and have to fend individually by yourselves. You are one nation, one people and you have got to think, feel and act accordingly. One for all and all for one against the forces that want you isolated, weak and taken apart in our existential future.

French colonialism did the most harm to the people in the Near-East. French institutions have been suckering to Zionist movements since 1870 and preempting their demands all the way.

All billionaires have shares in pharmaceutical companies, in oil companies, in chemical companies… What is worrying is that, eventually, most vaccines (covid-19 and others) will be laced with 5G microchips to control and monitor world population by the superpowers. Mind you that Taiwan is the main manufacturer of those microchips.

Do you trust covid-19 vaccine? I don’t. Especially when they force it on you. and more horrifying, when the pharmaceutical companies are liability-free if you die or are maimed…(The PERP ACT of Trump administration)

US/colonial powers commit the assassinations and Israel get free propaganda to her Mossad. Paid mercenaries have to pay the consequences.

How the “terrorist” activities are processed and conducted? US/colonial powers fund the “terrorist/mercenary” training camps in an “underdeveloped” country. A high officer in the internal security service of a third country (Pakistan for example) manages and run the execution of the activity. If activity fails or the main officers are uncovered, they are exterminated in order Not to leave evidences. Former Pakistan dictator General musharraf said: “These are Not terrorist movement, they can be considered as armed NGO”

“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.”—H.P. Why this urgency of US/Israel to negotiate the maritime borders between Lebanon and Israel? Apparently, the blocks 8 and 9 in Lebanon are the main reserves of gas/oil in the Mediterranean Sea. Israel wants to start extraction near this area and fear Hezbollah will demolish any offshore installations without any agreement. Israel does Not want the wealth of this reserve to be share with Egypt and Cyprus.

Proving that competition is a click away is not the same thing as proving that a market is competitive. For competition to work well, consumers need to be able and willing to switch to better products, and new competitors need to be able to enter the market.

A reminder for our people in the Near-East: Israel was implanted by the western colonial powers in our region to prevent any daily trade and communication among the same people. Ideal face mask for Covid-19? You want a three-layer mask. Next to your mouth goes cotton or something else soft and woven. Lidar? Light detection and ranging. If we could record and measure those points with a computer, we could learn a lot more about the object: Not just what it looks like, but its precise distance and dimensions, even what it’s made of.

Lidar system technology: Pioneered in the 1930s for the study of clouds, lidar is now used to visualize everything from ice sheets and forests to ancient ruins, crime scenes, vineyards, military targets, and traffic patterns. Lidar systems direct a laser beam toward an object, then capture whatever light bounces back.

The latest iPhones come equipped with a tiny lidar sensor to assist with augmented reality apps. Advances in artificial intelligence also start allowing lidar data, which can quickly pile up to epic proportions, to be deciphered more quickly.

Lidar technology has enabled the discovery and mapping of tens of thousands of previously undiscovered Ancient ruins and artifacts. such as ancient Mayan structures, a lost Aztec city700-year-old earthworks in Nigeria, a 10,000-year-old bison hunting ground in Oklahoma, and other archaeological wonders.

Lidar works particularly well in jungle settings, where the forest canopy makes aerial photography of such sites impractical (the lasers are able to penetrate tiny gaps in the trees). On a smaller scale, lidar can also be used to produce 3D renderings of artifacts.

The critical question in all time: What is to be done? How to start? The better question is: what is going wrong in the first place.

Only youth drives youths to march. The military crusades had failed after Salah el-Dine recaptured Jerusalem. Then, in Easter of 1212 in Cologne (current Germany) , a youth by the name of Nicholas harangued the youth to march toward Jerusalem, strong with their own faith. Hundreds of kids started the march in July and crossed the Alps and reached the Mediterranean Sea. This Young “prophet” promised them that the sea will split and let them cross safely.

These youth marches from many parts of Europe in the 13th century, France and Germany, coincided with the proselytizing of Francis of Assisi to his disciples that Money is the excrement of the Devil. Those famished downtrodden kids (in a Europe that experienced 850 famine periods all the way till the 19th century) had nothing to lose. Those who survived the crossing of the Alps, groups reached the port of Marseille, other groups ended on Genoa, waiting for the sea to split and to cross safely. Most probably, most of these kids ended up slaves in North Africa. At least they had something to eat, a white robe and sandals to wear.

Yes, I did waste time, on myself. I didn’t waste time bringing up children to suffer, to be humiliated, exploited, to vent their anger on other people…and then to die.

Come to think about it, it was a glorious summer. I was 14 and my parents paid for two private sessions of learning, 5 mornings a week. I walked up to my previous boarding school in Beit-Chabab and returned before noon. We were at most 3 students. One of the sessions was how to factors in equations of multiple power degrees (5 and more degrees) and Father Boutrus was my teacher. The other session was reading Arabic stories and essays and taught by an older Maronite Father.  The exercise was to find out the main essence of the piece we read. Patiently, the teacher listened to our opinions, and his main essence would always leave us speechless and awed.

Thinker and philosopher Zeno is born in Cyprus, a province of Syria in 490 BC. Four of the more than 40 thought experiments he is said to have devised are most often employed as vivid introductions to the intersection of math and philosophy, where something readily apparent is a challenge to definitively prove.

The most powerful of Zeno’s paradoxes grapple with the concept of infinity while pitting observable reality against the scientific language we use to describe that reality, suggesting that elements of the everyday, like motion and speed, are actually illusory. A few of Zeno paradoxes:

Dichotomy paradox: If you want to walk across the room, you have to first walk half that distance, then half the remaining distance, ad infinitum, so how do you ever get there?

Achilles paradox: If a turtle gets a head start in a race against Achilles, Achilles has to cover half the distance between himself and the turtle in order to catch up. Then half that. And half again. And again. In an upset, the turtle wins!

Arrow paradox: At any given instant, an arrow in flight occupies a certain space, no more and no less. At the next instant, it occupies a different space. If you assume an instant is indivisible, the arrow is not in motion. So how does it move? “It is never moving, but in some miraculous way the change of position has to occur between the instants, that is to say, not at any time whatever,” as Bertrand Russell put it.

Stadium paradox: Imagine three sets of three bodies in stadium rows: three As, three Bs, three Cs. The As are stationary; the Bs are moving right; the Cs are moving left at the same speed. In the same timeframe, the Cs will pass just one of the As, but two of the Bs. Crazy, right? (It doesn’t seem like it, but if you think of space and time atomistically, they pass without passing.)

“Zeno’s arguments, in some form, have afforded grounds for almost all theories of space and time and infinity which have been constructed from his time to our own.”—Bertrand Russell

Yemen: One year on since the start of mass protests

On 3 February 2011, pro-reform protests in Yemen turned into a mass movement.

On that day a broad group of mainly students and activists calling itself the Youth of 3 February (since referred to itself as Youth of the Revolution) attracted tens of thousands of people to mass protests in the capital Sana’a.

Protests had begun the previous month after the government announced draft constitutional amendments to allow President Ali Abdullah Saleh, head of state since 1978 – first as President of north Yemen and then of unified Yemen –  to run for Presidential elections for unlimited terms.

But they were also fueled by frustration at corruption, unemployment and repression of freedoms in the country, and partly inspired by events in Tunisia and Egypt.

The protesters called on President Ali Abdullah Saleh to dismiss the government and corrupt officials, dismiss his son as head of the Republican Guard and Special Forces, dissolve Parliament, appoint a government of national unity, return “embezzled” funds, and resign from the presidency and pledge not to run for office again.

Q: A year since protests began, how has the human rights situation changed?

2011 saw a rapid deterioration in the human rights situation in Yemen. The most shocking manifestation of this has been the brutal repression of protests.

More than 200 protesters have been killed and more than 1,000 injured after security forces have repeatedly used live ammunition to break up demonstrations. Hundreds more have been killed on all sides in armed clashes.

The track record of the authorities in investigating allegations of serious human rights violations by the security forces has been very poor.

Amnesty International is aware of only one judicial investigation – into the killings of protesters on 18 March 2011.

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, an official investigation resulted in 78 people being charged, but it is unclear whether these included members of the security forces. The authorities have offered compensation to some of the victims’ families.

Armed clashes have continued to take place across the country, leaving a growing humanitarian crisis in Yemen with water, electricity and other supplies diminishing.

Q: What is the situation now for Yemen following the signing of the Gulf Cooperation Council-brokered political deal?

Following the events of March 2011, when in the worst single incident at least 52 people were killed during a protest, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) offered President Saleh a deal which would guarantee him immunity from prosecution in return for his leaving office. In October the UN Security Council urged President Saleh to hand over power in accordance with the GCC agreement.

After a UN envoy helped the parties negotiate, President Saleh signed the deal in November, agreeing to hand some powers over to the Vice President, to the appointment of a new Prime Minister heading a “government of national reconciliation” and to the holding of presidential elections within 90 days. In return, President Saleh and his aides were to be given immunity.

Prime Minister from the opposition has now been appointed and a new national government – to remain in power for an interim period of two years – is in place, representing the ruling party and members of the opposition. Ali Abdullah Saleh retains the title of President until the elections, which are expected to take place in February.

An immunity law was passed on 21 January 2012 providing President Saleh with complete immunity from prosecution and all those who worked during his rule are also provided immunity from criminal prosecution in ‘politically motivated cases’. Protests have continued, denouncing the immunity law.

Amnesty International is calling on the GCC and the international community to withdraw its support for immunity for any official in Yemen, regardless of rank or affiliation. The immunity law breaches Yemen’s obligations under international law.

The fact that the UN gave support to the transition power-transfer deal when it was signed on 23 November when it was believed to have contained an immunity provision is regrettable. The UN Secretary General has previously issued a directive prohibiting brokering peace agreements which contain immunity clauses.

Q: Why does Amnesty International oppose immunity for Yemeni leaders? Some people have argued that they will provide stability.

The passing of the immunity law has dealt a serious blow for those calling for justice for human rights violations. Amnesty International has documented serious violations in Yemen carried out by or with the complicity of state agents. It is unacceptable that victims of such crimes should be prevented from getting justice.

Impunity for perpetrators will prevent the protection and promotion of human rights for all those in Yemen, at just the moment at which there is an opportunity for change.

We do not agree that immunity will deliver stability for the people of Yemen.

To prevent violations of human rights and humanitarian law being committed in the future, there must be accountability for past abuses. In contrast this, the law sends signals to future leaders of Yemen that if they commit enough abuses they may be given immunity simply to see them leave office.

The Yemeni government has said it wants to put in place ‘transitional justice’ mechanisms to provide justice and reparation to victims of abuses and to prevent further violations of international human rights and humanitarian law. It is unclear how this could be compatible with an immunity law which provides complete impunity to President Saleh and could apply immunity to all those who were his subordinates. It is not clear after all what is meant by ‘politically motivated cases’.

Q: What about human rights abuses being committed by non-governmental armed groups within Yemen?

Amnesty International condemns human rights abuses however, wherever and by whomever they are committed.

Over the years non-governmental armed groups are reported to have carried out kidnappings, attacks including on civilian population. In 2011 there were two reports – which Amnesty International has not been able to confirm – of amputations by armed Islamist militants claiming to apply Shar’ia law.

It is the Yemeni authorities’ responsibility to protect people in Yemen from violence by armed groups and to ensure that the human rights of everyone in Yemen are respected and protected at all times.

Any solution to the security challenges in Yemen must have at its heart the protection of human rights. All measures taken against armed groups must be carried out in accordance with international standards which prohibit, among other things, extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance, torture and arbitrary detention.

Q: Yemen faces many challenges, including multiple armed clashes and loss of control over parts of its country. In this context can the Yemeni government be expected to meet such challenges by strictly adhering to international human rights standards?

Yemen does face serious challenges but, like all states, the government must deal with such challenges – whether political, security or economic – in accordance with its obligations under international human rights law.

The government bears the primary responsibility for making human rights a reality. Governments must respect peoples’ rights and ensure that other people do not abuse these rights. Lack of resources or conflicts is no excuse for violating or neglecting human rights.

Unfortunately, many measures have been taken in recent years in Yemen, in the name of stability and security, without due adherence to international human rights obligations and standards.

The authorities must adequately investigate reports of massive violations committed in the past: in the context of the unrest in the south of Yemen against those seen as secessionists; in the name of countering terrorism against those accused of belonging to or supporting al-Qa’ida; and in the context of the intermittent conflict in the north between government forces and the Huthi rebel movement against suspected Huthi supporters and, more widely, the civilian population of the region.

Q: What has the Nobel Peace Prize for Tawakkol Karman meant for Yemen?

Human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has been a leading figure since mass protests against the government began in February 2011.

In January 2011 she was arrested by the authorities and charged with organizing an unlicensed protest, sparking outrage among other protesters.

The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Tawakkol along with two other women, recognized the work of activists to defend the rights of women around the world for “their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work”.

Awarding such a global prize to a Yemeni woman for her outstanding work gives hope to the millions of Yemeni girls and women living under discriminatory laws placing them at a lower status than that of men. It also is an opportunity for the Yemeni authorities to recognize the important role of women by abolishing all discriminatory laws and replacing them with others that provide girls and women legal protection from abuse as well as equality with men in family matters such as marriage, divorce and inheritance as well as in political participation.

Q: What does Amnesty International want to see happen in Yemen in 2012?

In 2012 the new government must urgently bring about the human rights change that protesters have been calling for. In particular:

  • by repealing the immunity law so as to bring to justice where there is sufficient admissible evidence anyone found responsible for such violations regardless of rank or affiliation;
  • by ceasing human rights violations, in particular by reigning in its security forces and ending unlawful killings of peaceful demonstrators and others;
  • by allowing an international, independent investigation into human rights violations; and
  • by allowing access to Amnesty International and other independent human rights monitors into the country.

Amnesty International also holds the international community responsible for supporting accountability and justice in Yemen, and calls on Yemen’s partners to put pressure on the government to repeal the immunity law and to call for an international, independent and impartial investigation into current and past human rights violations.

Amnesty also wants to see with regard to future arms supplies, the suspension of all types of weaponry, munitions and related equipment to the Yemeni police and security forces, which could be used for excessive or lethal force in policing pro-reform protests.

Arms supplying states should conduct a rigorous, comprehensive review of all international transfers and training support to Yemen’s military, security and police forces to ensure no arms transfers are authorized where there is a substantial risk that they will be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law. Where necessary governments should halt the delivery of arms and revoke export licences.

Q. In what ways is the immunity law illegal?

The immunity law breaches Yemen’s obligations under international law to investigate and prosecute crimes under international law and human rights violations. Under international law, including the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, to which Yemen is a state party, Yemen is obliged to investigate and prosecute anyone suspected of such crimes where there is sufficient admissible evidence.

In addition, as a state party to the Convention on the non-applicability of statutory limitations to war crimes and crimes against humanity, Yemen has recognized that if genocide, crimes against humanity or war crimes are committed, the provisions of the Convention (which provides that no statute of limitation may apply to these crimes) shall apply to representatives of the State authority and private individuals who, as principals or accomplices, participate in or who directly incite others to the commission of any of those crimes, or who conspire to commit them, irrespective of the degree of completion, and to representatives of the state authority who tolerate their commission.

Although it is commonly accepted that state officials are immune in certain circumstances from the jurisdiction of foreign states with respect to ordinary crimes under national law, such immunity do not apply – either in a foreign or national court – when the official is suspected of responsibility for crimes under international law – genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, torture, enforced disappearance and extrajudicial executions. This position has been confirmed over the course of six decades in numerous instruments. In addition, states are increasingly providing in national legislation that claims by officials to immunity from prosecution in their courts for crimes under international law are not recognized.

Note: this is a wide brush of the essential ideas that can settle my belief in the nasty turn of events in this ruthless timeline of History.

History is such a stupid happening. The Middle-East in the 7th century was dominated by 2 far civilized empires of Byzantium and the Sassanian|Persian empires.

The Western Roman empire with the Catholic pope in Rome had vanished under the various German tribes onslaught and only Orthodox Byzantium that dominated the lands west of the Euphrates River and Egypt and North Africa represented whatever western culture remained.

The Persian empire extended from the east of the Euphrates river all the way to Afghanistan and current Pakistan.

These two empires had well grounded and oiled institutions in education and administration of the society, and whatever difficulties they had in their monarchic system, they still were Not politically subordinated to their religious institutions. and their languages were well developed and widespread for trade and education in vast lands.

These two vast empire and strongly entrenched in this region had desisted a century ago from persecuted the “heretic sects” in their kingdom, according to their respective monarchic religion.

As the Islamic|Arabic invasion of Syria and the defeat of the Byzantium army in the battle of Yarmuk, the Ummaya dynasty had to start from scratch when they settled in Damascus as their Capital: the learned Christians had to

The Syrian scholars who mastered at least 3 languages of (Greek, Latin, Aramaic, Arabic, Persia…) translated all the Greek, Roman and Aramaic work into Arabic, and even had to develop this backward language with no punctuation into a readable language.

It took the Ummayad dynasty an entire century to collect and gather original and translated knowledge before the successive dynasties made good use of this knowledge.

The same process of beginning from scratch had to be undertaken in the vast Iranian empire, rich in civilization and administration.

Meanwhile another round of persecutions against the Islamic heretic sects and other religions went on for centuries

Books mention a dozen of well-known famous Islamic physicians and scientists, most of them where of Syria, Persia and North Africa origin.

Fact is, the Middle-East would have generated hundreds upon hundreds of physicians and scientists without this Islamic expansion and the world would have been far better of and Not wait 10 centuries for the European Renaissance to emerge and spread its rational mind and artistic glory.

In the 50’s and for the next 2 decades, the dictatorship of Abdul Nasser and the Baath parties in Syria and Iraq controlled the publication of books relative to the History of the Arabic empire and emphasized the benefits and good side of this Islamic empire. The thousands horror stories against infidels and Islamic “heretical sects” and against other leaders and their clans were self censured at best, in order to retain the good Face of the “Arabic Nation” that these parties claimed to institute or re-establish in the Arab World.

Lately, the horror stories are coming out.

It has been revealed that the so-called Arabic military Hero Khaled Iben Al Walid was a violent assassin: He killed thousands of civilian people In Damascus for 3 days and nights after his army forced the Bizantine army to retreat after 3 days of undecided victory. This same Islamic hero was the military right hand of the first Calif Abu Baker and savagely engaged many tribes who reneged on the message of Mohammad after his death: He went on a rampage of sweeping killing, raping and razzias. The first Calif resisted the wrath of the next Calif Omar Iben Khattab on the ground that he badly needed such a ruthless military commander to re-establish Islam in the Arabic peninsula.

Another well-known “hero” is Salah El Din who defeated the Crusaders in the battle of Hettine in Palestine. It turned out that this Sultan who settled in Damascus as Capital conducted genocides on many Islamic sects that were Not Sunni, especially in northern Syria.

The Abbasid dynasty went on a rampage against all the Ummayad heirs and killed every single member of the extended family: One one escaped to Andalusia and established another kind of Caliphate.

As I noted, this is a rough brush and will Not mention all the successive horrors of Calif successions till the Ottoman empire.

Needless to say that the current “formal Arabic” is fraught with religious expressions and innuendo and Not fit to be an international language.

Only the slang in the various States in the Middle-East and Egypt represent the culture and customs of the people, since the terms are mainly from the Aramaic language which was the language of the land for many

millennia.

Note 2: When I mentioned the 50-70’s decades of books relevant to the “positive” achievement of the “Arabic empire” I had in mind the lessons one of the most humane and charismatic leaders of the Syria National Social party. In many instances, this leader/commander comrade got excited recounting the Arabic empire achievements, though he mentioned the achievement of Akkad, Babylon, Assyrian, Canaan, Phoenicia, Carthage empires as the origin of our Syrian root civilization and unity as a Nation.

Today, four of the five pillars that had sustained Lebanon are collapsing, creating fears for the future.

Note: This article by Maha is a year old and since then the Lebanese majority are in much worse conditions. We lacked public electricity and the private providers were unable to supply more than 4 hours a day, simply because of lack of diesel (mazout) and the inability of customers to pay for the exorbitant bills they received. We lack public water, Not even for washing, and the public providers in citernes increased the bill by 3 folds on account of lack of mazout. Potable water are bought in bottled recipients and the price increases every week: I fee that potable water is more expensive than kitchen gas bonbones. Bakeries closed their doors for lack of mazout and affordable ingredients.

In just 2 weeks, the army was directed to clamp down on “reserves” of mazout and benzine and managed to siphon 10 millions liters and distribute them to hospitals, bakeries, municipalities…And the criminals were Not brought to trials, since everyone of them is backed by at least one militia/mafia leaders.

Lebanon was unable to form a government since the resignation of the government in 2019. Frankly, the Lebanese knows that a government means hoarding whatever loans is extended to the State.

Hezbollah has decided to import mazout from Iran, whether the “government” likes it or Not: We can no longer submit to the sanctions of the USA on the faked ground of the increased power of Hezbollah, military and civil administration of the ignominy that the Lebanese are subjugated to.

Lebanese politicians are pushing their country over the precipice.

Eight months into a complex crisis that is threatening Lebanon’s foundations, they have yet to take steps to stem the collapse. On the contrary, they have pursued a malign business-as-usual approach as they hedge their bets on a system that is no more.

Today, four of the five key pillars that have long sustained Lebanon are crumbling.

First, the power-sharing arrangement that has characterized the country since its foundation is no longer working and is characterized by persistent and debilitating blockages. This arrangement rests on an equitable distribution of government posts among the country’s different sects. It was also based on a double negative of a “no to the East” and “a no to the West,” whereby Christians would not seek Western involvement in Lebanon’s affairs, and Muslims would not seek Arab intervention.

The power-sharing system is in no danger of immediate collapse. However, the last time it was contested, Lebanon entered into a 15-year civil war between 1975 and 1990.

The Taif Accord, the settlement ending that conflict, foresaw Lebanon’s transition to a civil state in which sectarian representation in parliament would end. In exchange, all sects would be represented in a new Senate, whose authority would be limited to deciding on major national issues. Yet those parts of the accord were never implemented. Today, sectarian governance has become far more entrenched in state institutions, making change extremely difficult.

Second, Lebanon’s role as a merchant republic,(mercantile system of importing and Not exporting,) based primarily on banking and services, is at an end. In 2018, financial services contributed 8.5% of GDP and the tourism sector (mainly hotels and restaurants) 3.1%.

Today, losses in the banking sector are estimated at $83 billion. In a country that imports almost everything it consumes, informal capital controls and the cancellation of lines of credit to businesses show a banking system that no longer functions.

Similarly, around 800 tourism-related establishments closed permanently between October 2019 and January 2020. Tourism and related services employed 25 percent of Lebanon’s labor force, but some 25,000 individuals lost their jobs in the sector during that same period. It’s likely that this figure has increased because of Covid-19 containment measures. The scale of the crisis is threatening the basic integrity of Lebanon’s economy. Experts now estimate the economy will contract by 25 percent in real terms over the next two years.

Third pillar is the collapse of the middle-class. This economic collapse and the ensuing destruction of wealth is wiping out the country middle class, historically one of the most affluent, resourceful, and professional in the region. Lebanese society is being rapidly impoverished, while the youngest and brightest seek opportunities elsewhere.

One in three Lebanese have reportedly lost their jobs, and many others are likely to be pushed into the informal sector. The Lebanese pound has lost some 80 percent of its value on the black market.

To cite but one example of the effects of this, the average annual salary of an assistant professor at the American University of Beirut is LL94 million. This used to be equivalent to $63,000 a year, or around $5,000 per month. At today’s exchange rate of $1 = LL8.000, the monthly salary has dropped to $11,000 a year, or $900 a month.

The middle class is swelling the ranks of the poor, with the World Bank estimating that around 50 percent of Lebanese now live below the poverty line, while thousands are going hungry. Clothes, food, and fuel are becoming unaffordable as year-on-year purchasing power has been halved, with inflation reaching 90 percent in June 2020. The price of basic goods increased by around 55 percent in May alone. All this represents an epic collapse with a generational impact.

A fourth pillar of the Lebanese system, namely freedoms, is also being eroded. Since independence, Lebanon has been renowned for freedom of speech and a flourishing press. By the end of the 1940s the country was publishing 39 dailies and 137 periodicals in three languages. In its heyday Lebanon acted as a safe haven for dissidents and refugees, boasting a cultural and intellectual life unparalleled in the region, a role it continued to play until recently, albeit much less effectively.

The decline in fundamental freedoms and the repression of free speech is apparent in the alarming increase and systematic targeting of activists, dissidents, and refugees over the past few years, with the help of more aggressive security services and a pliant judiciary. While Lebanon’s constitution upholds freedom of speech within the bounds of the law, its penal code criminalizes defamation against political and religious officials. Since October 17 at least 60 individuals have been arrested or summoned for interrogation because of things they posted on social media. More recently, there were reports that the country’s top prosecutor ordered a security agency to investigate social media posts offensive to the president. In response, a coalition of fourteen organizations has been formed to defend freedoms.

Finally, the Lebanese system’s fifth pillar, the army and the internal security forces, is also feeling the impact of the economic crisis.

Like all Lebanese, military and security personnel have seen their incomes and pensions disappear. The salary of the army’s commander has declined in dollar terms to around $750 a month, while that of a colonel has gone down to $300 and a soldier to $150. The personnel may be faring better than those who have lost their jobs, but they no longer enjoy many of the benefits they previously did. In an environment of heightened tensions, economic pressure on the military and security sector will only grow. More worrisome, this is happening as crime rates have risen in recent months.

In response to this dire situation, national-level decisionmaking has been slow, with politicians displaying callous disregard for the country. They continue to seek short-term gains and are looking for ways to hang on to power, plunging Lebanon deeper into crisis. By dragging their feet they are imposing further losses on depositors, who cannot withdraw their U.S. dollars from banks except in pounds, and at an official rate far lower than the black market rate.

Agreement on an economic rescue plan is critical for unlocking desperately needed financial assistance. Yet, the government and parliament are still bickering over the size of Lebanon’s financial losses as the government negotiates with the International Monetary Fund. Rather than introduce reforms, the politicians have continued to behave much as they did in the past. This was evident in recent civil service appointments that privileged political clientelism over merit. Without reforms, external support will not materialize.

Meanwhile, political parties are returning to their sectarian reflexes, fracturing the Lebanese polity even more. Trends visible on the ground point to increasing fragmentation, with villages, towns, and neighborhoods initiating self-protection mechanisms.

Against the background of Covid-19, increasing crime rates, and collapsing state institutions, parties have revived their protection rackets and are providing food and medicine to constituents in need. This is happening even as many Lebanese seek a nonsectarian state that upholds their rights as citizens, not merely as members of a sect.

Lebanon’s problems can only be addressed if its political leaders place the country’s, and their own, long-term interests above short-term gains. That means an agreement to shoulder some of the losses stemming from the crisis and bringing in a government capable of envisioning and implementing an immediate stabilization program and a medium- to long-term recovery program. So far, however, these do not seem to be priorities for Lebanon’s political leadership.
