Trump takes children hostages. To please whom? Which US institutions?
Posted by: adonis49 on: June 24, 2018
Trump’s child hostages
2,300 children have been torn from their parents and put in cages as part of Trump’s latest sick political game! (I saw that on TV)
After a massive outcry, Trump just said he’d stop separating families.
But that does nothing for those already torn apart.
These child hostages were rounded up into cages, then locked-in under lights blaring 24 hours a day.
‘Mami!’, ‘Papa!’ they sob, but workers at detention centers can’t even touch them to comfort them! And most don’t have lawyers to get them out.
But there’s something we can do right now to help them.
Trump’s been using these innocent children as political pawns to strong-arm Congress to give him the money he wants to build his wall on the US-Mexico border.
After weeks of lying, public outrage finally pushed him to end the brutal separation policy — but while families now may get to stay together, children will still be held in cages with their parents, like animals!
And for the children already separated, nothing has changed — except the spotlight has shifted, making it even harder for them to get the help they need.
There’s no plan to release them or find their parents. They’re still being held in cages or makeshift tents, sleeping on cold floors, alone, and they aren’t allowed access to their parents.
The long-term psychological effects are chilling.
Without lawyers, these children may be imprisoned for weeks on end. They may be transferred thousands of miles away, and parents are even being deported without their kids!
But with a lawyer, we could get them out and reunited with their desperate families.
Listening to the recording of the desperate cries of children in a detention center made me sob imagining my own screaming toddler alone without me, in a cage! Let’s come together to get urgent help to these thousands of children, right now.
Let’s show them that the world stands with them, ready to draw a line in the sand to stop these inexcusable horrors.

We can help make sure the children ripped from their families get a lawyer to get them out and back to their parents. Then we’ll campaign relentlessly to stop the politics that allowed this horror to happen.
Monsanto uncorking the champagne: 12 Trans-Pacific Partnership about to sign agreement?
Posted by: adonis49 on: January 15, 2017
Monsanto’s about to celebrate their biggest coup ever, but we have only hours left to stop them.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership is a huge, ultra-secret deal among twelve major countries that would give corporations unprecedented power — allowing them to use new global tribunals to sue our governments for passing laws that protect us, but reduce their profits!
This could apply to everything from labeling GMO foods to protecting internet freedom.
Wikileaks has broken the story and opposition is building fast, but the countries are rushing to seal the deal within 24 hours.
This is insane, but we have a chance to stop it — 3 countries are wobbling, and if they pull back now the whole deal could crumble.
If we deluge leaders in Chile, New Zealand and Australia with a global call to stand strong, we can stop this corporate takeover before Monsanto uncorks the champagne. Sign up now and share this with everyone:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/no_champagne_for_monsanto_loc/?bFAfecb&v=32402
The leaked Trans-Pacific Partnership drafts read like an extended Christmas wish-list for big business — it would set a global standard of companies imposing their will on our governments through an opaque system of tribunals.
These courts could limit access to cheap generic medicines in favour of branded medicines, and even allow cigarette companies to sue governments over health regulations that they say threaten profits! It’s almost too crazy to be true.
But practically no one has heard of the TPP!
The talks are so secretive that not even our elected lawmakers know what’s in it — just the negotiators and 600 corporate lobbyists.
Now leaked texts have shocked politicians and citizens from Chile, New Zealand, and Australia. And they are pushing back on the corporate bullying, and against the US that is hell-bent on getting a deal agreed before there is too much public scrutiny.
The TPP affects us all — it infringes on our rights and undermines our democracies just to protect the corporate bottom line. And we only have hours to stop it.
It can be easy to feel small in the face of big corporate forces driving our governments.
But people, not money, are the true source of power. Time and again, our community has proved that when we come together to protect our rights against corporate takeover, we can win. Let’s now stop this unprecedented threat to our democracies.

Harassment of Syrian children in Egypt?

Harassment of Syrian children in Egypt?
End the harassment of Syrians in Egypt
![]() ![]() |
Mahmoud is a 9 year old boy whose friends in Egypt have stopped playing with him because he is Syrian.
It’s due to a xenophobic campaign, contributed to by the media and the new government, that is being waged against Syrians in Egypt.
Syrian children are being arrested and students don’t know if they’ll be allowed into schools this year. On top of that, hundreds are being turned away at the airports.
Syrians are being made scapegoats for Egypt’s domestic troubles.
The humiliation and degradation began after the events of June 30.
New laws now demand prior obtained visas from an Egyptian embassy and security checks.
Before June 30, Syrians could easily use Egypt as a safe haven without visa restraints. Along with the new laws, Egyptian authorities have arbitrarily arrested at least 72 men and 9 children including registered asylum seekers and at least 9 people with valid visas or residency permits.
The interim government and the Egyptian authorities must immediately cease using Syrian civilians as pawns in Egypt’s internal politics. Our oceans are dying: A call for action
Posted by: adonis49 on: May 8, 2012
Our oceans are dying
Water is everywhere. A potato is 80% water, a cow 74%, a bacterium 75%, a tomato at 95%, and human 65%. Most liquid when chilled contract 10% but water only 1%, but just before freezing it expands. When solid water is 10% more voluminous, an utterly bizarre property which allow ice to float, otherwise ice would sink and oceans would freeze from the bottom.
Without surface ice to hold heat in, the water warmth would radiate away and thus creating more ice and soon oceans would freeze. Water is defying the rules of chemistry and law of physics. The hydrogen atoms cling fiercely to their oxygen host, but also make casual bonds with other water molecules, thus changing partners billions of times a second and thus, water molecules stick together and can be siphoned without breaking but not so tightly so that you may dive into a pool (see link in note).
Marine ecosystems are collapsing, and 85% of fish stocks are dangerously depleted. But no one is policing the trawlers’ plunder, and waste is poisoning our seas.
Scientists say that what we need right now is a bold plan that:
1. sets aside 20% of our blue planet as conservation areas by 2020, allowing the seas to replenish for generations to come;
2. ends subsidies to the industrial fishing complex; and
3. creates a new protection agreement for the oceans outside of national boundaries.
Stephanie B of avaaz team is calling for action:
“Our oceans are dying. Beset by pollution and demolition industrial fishing, the magical and bountiful deep blue is turning into a barren desert. But in the next 72 hours, governments are considering a new rescue plan — and we can help push it through.
Governments spend billions subsidising the commercial fishing industry to pillage our seas. The new plan would end this scandal, craft a new treaty to protect the high seas, and establish critical marine protection reserves. But Canada, the US and Japan are threatening to water down or even kill it. Our only hope is to get behind Europe to champion the idea before it’s too late.
This crucial meeting is being held quietly behind closed doors at the UN. Let’s break open the talks and deliver massive global support to Europe to save our oceans.
Against the odds, the European Union is pushing for an agreement this week, and has the support of droves of developing countries. But the blockers are battling to limit the conservation areas and kick decisions on a global treaty far into the future.
If they don’t get that, they are threatening to drown the plan completely before it is even born. This week is do or die for the oceans — our only hope is to massively and publicly get behind the Europeans in the next three days and drive an oceans rescue plan through.
We know we can win on oceans. Our community helped establish the largest marine reserve in the world and won protections for whales and tuna. But our oceans are dying faster than ever, and one by one species are coming closer to the brink. Let’s demand a comprehensive global oceans rescue plan now.
