Report (#17). (April 25, 2009)

Every now and then you read optimistic editorials that an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is very close because the US wants it, again, this time around.

I heard these optimistic reflection 15 years ago by the Egyptian Ambassador to the USA who later was appointed Foreign Minister.

You are led to believe that a Syrian-Israel accord is already completed and just waiting for a suitable political climate; and we all wonder and worry what “suitable political climate” entails as it has never been, but more wars and massacres to Lebanese and Palestinians.

In the weekly “Jeune Afrique” (Young Africa) the editorial of Bechir ben Yahmed would like you to sit tight and see a wonderful movie of peace achievement unfold in the region , No later than two years from now.  Why?

Because the new US Administration has set its mind that the establishment of a Palestinian State is the cornerstone for its long range policies in the Middle East, and that the European community badly wants this resolution on ground that it can No longer afford to pay for frequent reconstructions in Palestine and Gaza.

And Why the US has finally set its mind?

Simply because a panel of 10 illustrious men in US politics has proposed this resolution. They are Brent Scowcroft, Paul Volcker, Zbigniew Brzeziński, James Wolfensohn, Henry Siegman, and others.

What is the ready plan of the US Administration?

First, the return of Israel to its 1967 border with “concessions on several parcels of lands” Yes, right.

Second, dividing Jerusalem as Capital for the two States;

Third, the return of Palestinian refugees to the Palestinian State. And why Israel is still transferring Palestinians to Gaza?

Forth, the admission of Israel of its responsibility and financial compensation by the “World Community”; and

Finally, the stationing of International Peace Force on the borders.

Nothing more and nothing less; see you all how simple and straightforward has this plan boiled down too!

In the mean time:

First, the Palestinians and the “Arab” States have to recognize a purely Jewish State in their midst;

Second, the US has to recognize Hamas as a democratically elected party as it recognized the democratically elected ultra racists Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman. Not for long, before shaming Hamas as a terrorist movement.

Third, the US has to recognize that Israel has nuclear bombs and missiles that can deliver them and thus has the responsibility Not to leave decisions of mass destruction in the hands of foolish racist and “Arab hate mongers“; and

Forth, the US has to stop delivering white phosphorous bombs to Israel, as well as cluster bombs….

The German cargo transporter “Wehr Elbe” discharged 300 containers of military ammunitions in Israel and containing White Phosphorous bombs that caused the outcry of the international community for being dropped consistently on Gaza and burning thousands of Palestinians.

What else did these containers deliver? Cluster bombs, you guessed it.

Every week a child or a shepherd dies or is maimed in south Lebanon due to the millions of cluster bombs that Israel “delivered” in the last day of the 2006 July War.

That is not the end of the story.

Two other cargo shipments are in the pipelines. Why?

The previous Bush Administration has signed an accord with Israel for $25 billion dollars in free military package aids

Funny, President Obama does not want to rescind criminal decisions, as if closing Guantanamo Bay prison is of a lesser magnitude in hypocrisy.

An Iranian proverb says: “Balding men dies with a toupee of abundant curly regrets

This proverb squarely applies to Israel ex Ehoud Olmer PM.

For three years, Olmert had the opportunity to sign peace agreement with Syria and establish a Palestinian homeland but he failed to do so.  In his departure farewell he delivered a public testament urging his successor Netanyahu to boldly and courageously grab a historic initiative to that effect.

If these decisions had no other alternatives then why has Olmert failed in his responsibility?

Israel, the US, and the European Union would like the general public to consider Iran the main nemesis for world peace.

They don’t dare say that Pakistan that owns nuclear bombs is falling to a Taliban-like extremism.

They also don’t dare say that the over 300 million Muslims in India are mostly of Shia sect leaning, like in Iran.

In Lebanon, over 750 candidates for the Parliamentary election in June 7 deposited $6,000 each to be eligible.

Many withdrew from the race and recovered $1,500; the remaining lost their deposit.

The treasury would be over 3 millions dollars richer.

The New York Times published yesterday that Saudi Kingdom is pumping hundreds of millions of dollars to support the government candidates.  Saad Hariri is the medium for receiving and distributing the Saudi dirty money.

Saudi monarchy would like the government in Lebanon to return as majority even with one candidate.  All the main lists of candidates have been formed by both alliances.

Today is the official anniversary of the Armenian genocide; the Armenians in Lebanon are not happy that Seniora PM decided to hold a meeting for the cabinet today.

I had posted an essay on the genesis of the Armenian genocide under the title “Cursed Cities: Kars”

American professor proposes that Israel “flatten Beirut”? Why?

And how Israel is planning to “flatten Beirut”?

This current one million-person city has been previously decimated and flattened through several earthquakes and pandemics

Note: Re-edit “Amitai Etzioni, who teaches at renowned universities, says Israel may have no choice but to destroy Lebanon — again February 22, 2016″

A prominent American scholar who teaches international relations at George Washington University, and who has taught at a variety of prestigious U.S. universities, including Columbia, Harvard and Berkeley, has publicly proposed that Israel “flatten Beirut” — a city with around 1 million people — in order to destroy the missiles of Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah.

Professor Amitai Etzioni served as a senior advisor in President Jimmy Carter’s administration — made this proposal in an op-ed in Haaretz, the leading English-language Israeli newspaper, known as “The New York Times of Israel.” Haaretz represents the liberal wing of Israel’s increasingly far-right politics.

Etzioni’s op-ed was first published on Feb. 15 with the headline “Can Israel Obliterate Hezbollah’s Growing Missile Threat Without Massive Civilian Casualties?” (the answer he suggests in response to this question is “likely no”).

The rubble of Beirut’s southern suburbs (Dahiyat Janoubiyat) in August 2006, after Israel’s war in Lebanon, which destroyed tens of thousands of homes (Credit: Reuters/Jamal Saidi). It also look as Gaza under the ruin.

“Should Israel Flatten Beirut to Destroy Hezbollah’s Missiles?” was the next, much more blunt title, chosen sometime on or before Feb. 16.

As of Feb. 18, the headline is “Should Israel Consider Using Devastating Weapons Against Hezbollah Missiles?”

Etzioni served in the Haganah — the terrorist army that formed Israel after violently expelling three-quarters of the indigenous Palestinian population — from 1946 to 1948, and then served in the Israeli military from 1948 to 1950. He mentions his military service in both the article and his bio.

(Question: If a Palestinian or an “Arab” was discovered to have joined any military group, would he be teaching in the USA)

In the piece, Etzioni cites an anonymous Israeli official who estimates that Hezbollah has 100,000 missiles in Lebanon. In January, the U.S. government put that figure at 80,000 rockets.

The anonymous official also says the Israeli government considers these weapons to be its second greatest security threat — after Iran. (Actually, Israel repeatedly claimed that Hezbollah is the first and foremost threat to Israel existence)

Etzioni cites Israel’s chief of staff, who claims that most of Hezbollah’s missiles are in private homes.

Whether this allegation is true is questionable. Israel frequently accuses militant groups of hiding weapons in civilian areas in order to justify its attacks.

On numerous occasions, it has been proven that there were no weapons in the civilian areas Israel bombed in Gaza.

Assuming it is true, Etzioni argues, if Israeli soldiers were to try to take the missiles out of these homes one at a time, it “would very likely result in many Israeli casualties.” (Why am I still reading this stupid article?)

In order to avoid Israeli casualties, Etzioni writes: “I asked two American military officers what other options Israel has. They both pointed to Fuel-Air Explosives (FAE). These are bombs that disperse an aerosol cloud of fuel which is ignited by a detonator, producing massive explosions. (What? They want to destroy Beirut or burn 1 million Lebanese citizens?)

The resulting rapidly expanding wave flattens all buildings within a considerable range.”

“Such weapons obviously would be used only after the population was given a chance to evacuate the area. (Really? Like in Gaza, where people were supposed to flee to?)

Still, as we saw in Gaza, there are going to be civilian casualties,” Etzioni adds. “The time to raise this issue is long before Israel may be forced to use FAEs.” (As people in Gaza were given 5 minutes to vacate an area and succumb to the shrapnel?)

Etzioni concludes his piece implies Israel has no other option but to bomb the city of Beirut.

“In this way, one hopes, that there will be a greater understanding, if not outright acceptance, of the use of these powerful weapons, given that nothing else will do,” he resumes his foolish racist idiosyncrasy. (How about desist from the preemptive wars strategies and abide by UN resolutions?)

Belén Fernández, an author and contributing editor at Jacobin magazine, published a piece in TeleSur responding to Etzioini’s op-ed, titled “No, Israel Should Not Flatten Beirut.” Fernández points out “that Israel has already flattened large sections of Lebanon, in Beirut and beyond.”

She recalls visiting a young man in a south Lebanon village near the Israeli border who “described the pain in 2006 of encountering detached heads and other body parts belonging to former neighbors, blasted apart by bombs or crushed in collapsed homes.”

A day before the agreed upon cease fire, upon the urging of Israel to US to work on it, Israel flattened 5-block radius in Beirut.

And Blair PM of England dispatched 1.5 million cluster bombs to spread in South Lebanon. Thousands of Lebanese have died or injured due to these illegal bombs.

Note 1: Beirut was destroyed by 2 major earthquakes in 550 and 560. The first earthquake destroyed Beirut and the second set fire on the city. Between 150 and 250, Beirut was the Central Jurisprudence  of Rome and 5 eminent jurists set the laws for the Roman Empire.

Beirut and Lebanon was shaken with an earthquake in 1958. I was in boarding school and the adults carried out the sleeping children to the outside yard. For an entire decade, Lebanese had to pay the additional “Earthquake Tax”

Note 2: Lebanese journalists and activists have expressed outrage at the article.

Kareem Chehayeb, a Lebanese journalist and founder and editor of the website Beirut Syndrome, said in response to the piece “Should Israel kill me, my family, and over a million other people to destroy Hezbollah’s missiles? How about that for a headline?”

Chehayeb told Salon Etzioni’s argument is “absolutely absurd” and reeks of hypocrisy.

“If some writer said the only way to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is just to bomb Israel,” he said, “people would go up in arms about it.”

“I’m just speechless. It sounds ISIS-like, just eradicating an entire community of people,” Chehayeb added.

Salon called Etzioni’s office at George Washington University’s Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies several times with a request for comment, but no one answered.

After this article was published, Etzioni emailed Salon a statement. “I agree with you that any suggestion to bomb or ‘flatten’ Beirut (or any other city) would be beyond horrible and outrageous,” he said. He said Haaretz had changed and then later corrected his headline.

“Ethics aside — Beirut is not where the missiles are housed,” Etzioni added. “The issue though stands how is a nation to respond if another nation or non-state actor rains thousands of missiles on its civilian population?”

Salon also reached out to the university.

Jason Shevrin, a spokesperson, told Salon “the George Washington University is committed to academic freedom and encourages efforts to foster an environment welcoming to many different viewpoints. Dr. Etzioni is a faculty member who is expressing his personal views.” The spokesperson did not comment any further.

Etzioni is by no means an unknown scholar. He notes on his George Washington University faculty page that, in 2001, he was among the 100 most-cited American intellectuals. He has also served as the president of the American Sociological Association.

You realize that sophisticated war hardware invention accelerated its pace during WWI.

Your worries heighten when you discover that after WWII, the timeline from invention to application shortened drastically.

It is as if powerful States are very anxious to show off the potentials of mass destruction by creating arm conflicts for effective testing of the new arsenals.

Actually, we witnessed 115 armed conflicts after 1945, twice the total number of conflicts in 150 years.

The US, France, England, and Russia annihilated entire islands and destroyed the ecosystem of vast lands just for testing H-bombs.

The effects of underground atomic testings are surfacing now with increased volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and tidal waves. (And the weakening of earth magnetic field)

After testing on live hapless developing nations, the barons of military industries and Defense Department start exporting arms to so-called “friendly States”.  Most of these  “friendly States” produce oil and don’t know how to use what they purchased.

The military budgets of many States lack allocation to maintaining the sophisticated machines of death. Thus, the need to pay for “military experts” of the superpower State to keep the hardware combat ready.

The US government exports 50% of the total war hardware sold around the world.

Ten other States export the remaining 50%.

The US military budget is higher than the military budgets of all the UN recognized States.  Mind you that a single B2 bomber cost the military budget of 120 States; and what this bomber is used for?  Mainly if an armed conflict starts with China!

The UN banned the usage of many arms of mass destruction and especially chemical weapons that Germany started in 1916, Japan used in China in 1943, then US used in China in 1950,  in Vietnam for many years (orange gas), and also in Iraq in 2003.

Israel is still using all the banned arms on the Palestinians and the Lebanese such as cluster bombs, phosphorous bombs, Dense Inert Metal Explosive munitions

Tony Blair of England should be facing international court for crimes against humanity but he was recompensed with a peaceful resolution of Palestinian Israeli conflicts:  He delivered the cluster bombs to Israel in the 2006 war (33 days) against Lebanon, one day before the cease fire!

Lebanon barely cleaned up half the clustered bomb in 5 years and more casualties are witnessed every week:  In Lebanon, hundred have died and thousand permanently injured.

This century witnessed 140 armed conflicts totaling more than 150 millions in direct casualties.

Three times that number suffered permanent disabilities and handicaps physically, mentally, or both.

Thus, one billion of mankind were wasted just in wars.

More than 20 conflicts produced over one million killed.

WWI generated about 9 million killed and WWII more than 60 millions.

Two dozen conflicts are still on going for decades and the toll is accumulating.

Mind that in every decade, one billion die of famine and curable diseases.

The UN estimated that currently there is one billion earning less than a dollar per day and have no shelters:  Which means, all the most downtrodden of the billion of mankind will invariably die within the decade of famine and curable diseases.

Note 1: Since 2010, we started the star wars where nations are testing the destruction of satellites in space and with accurate successes.

Note 2: Not a single conflict has been put to rest. All the hapless countries are still suffering the recurring pre-emptive wars, civil wars, and acute famine and economic sanctions.

Consequence of Israel pre-emptive war on Lebanon in June 2006

Israel launched a pre-emptive war on Lebanon in 2006 that lasted 33 days. Monstrous infrastructure devastation ensued that cost Lebanon $15 bn.

2,000 Lebanese died and four fold were injured and handicapped. Israel lost thousands of its soldiers, on land and on sea, and a third of Israel population were incarcerated in shelters for the duration.

Supposedly, Israel was attacking Hezbollah, but every region in Lebanon was hit with fighter jets bombs and missiles. In the last day of the ceasefire, Israel dropped million of cluster bombs delivered to it from Scottish manufacturers and weapon reserved by order of Blair PM. 13 years later, many civilians are killed or handicapped from these cluster bombs.

1,5 million Lebanese civilians took refuge inside Lebanon or in Syria and 200,000 left to overseas  countries to start a new life.

over 30,500  houses were demolished and 350 towns terribly devastated.

16 main hospital knocked down and 15% of schools targeted.

120,000 public servants were out of work in 33 days.

91 main bridges bombed and 650 km of road damaged

92,000 trees lost.

Once the cease fire was declared on July 15, almost all southern citizens returned immediately, using makeshift bridges to reach their towns and homes.

The Government had warn them Not to return on the excuse of fear of “Not exploded bombs”, but they did return and won the war: Israel wished the south be vacated by its inhabitants and this project failed miserably.

A few Gulf States tried to be forgiven by their support of Israel war and tried a reconstruction of Lebanese towns and bridges.

Since 2006, Israel population and army declined to go to war on Hezbollah: this horror fiasco is still in their psychic, as well of the experience of living in shelter.

I did write my diary of this war and how the Lebanese behaved.

In 1996, Israel bombed Qana killing 106 of the Lebanese who took refuge in the UN compound. USA made it impossible for US lawyers to demand compensation.

Textron wins $641 million deal to build Saudi cluster bombs

Reporting by Andrea Shalal-Esa; Editing by Bob Burgdorfer. Tue Aug 20, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Textron Defense Systems, a unit of Textron Inc (TXT.N), has won a U.S. Air Force contract valued at $641 million to build 1,300 cluster bombs for Saudi Arabia, the U.S. Defense Department and Textron said on Tuesday.

The contract, which runs through the end of 2015, formalizes the sale of Textron’s CBU-105 cluster bombers to Saudi Arabia, a deal that was first notified to Congress in December 2010.

The Pentagon’s daily digest of major arms sales said $410 million in foreign military sales funds were being obligated for the Saudi work at this time.

Textron said the CBU-105, also known as a Sensor Fuzed Weapon, meets the Pentagon’s policy on cluster munitions, which requires that they must not result in more than 1 percent unexploded ordnance, or duds.

Company spokesman Stephen Greene said the Sensor Fuzed Weapon has a greater than 99.6 percent reliability rate, which means that it may yield a dud less than 0.5 percent of the time.

He said the U.S. Air Force had also verified that if a dud were to reach the ground, it would be inert and safe to handle in under two minutes. (Every one is killed, and Not maimed?)

The Air Force had no immediate comment on details of the contract announcement

Note: So the USA and Saudi Kingdom were planning their pre-emptive war on Yemen since 2010?

Nobel Peace Prize winner my ass:

Obama has sold $90bn worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia since 2010

The greatest arms exporter since the Second World War

Posted Monday 28 September 2015

Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize a mere 12 days into his presidency.  (Such a mockery for peace dreamers and based on pre-emptive promises)

Never had a recipient achieved so little to be lauded so much.

Essentially it was a pre-emptive award given on the presumption Obama’s foreign policy record would eventually meet its promise.

In the six-years since becoming planet earth’s most recognised agent for world peace, Obama has:

1. failed to close Guantanamo Bay, which remains the symbol of the darkest chapter in modern US history;

2.  has assassinated US citizens around the globe sans due process;

3.  has suspended habeas corpus;

4. has terrorised villagers in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and elsewhere with the incessant buzzing sound of weaponised drones;

5.  armed Israel in the midst of its brutal and bloody invasion of Gaza, which left more than 2,200 Palestinians dead;

6.  toppled a government in Libya without so much as a consideration for what might come next;

7. supported the toppling of a democratically elected government in Egypt, and, in turn, armed arguably the most brutal dictator in that country’s history; and

8. has coordinated and guided Saudi Arabia’s terrorist activities in Yemen, which has left more than 4,000 Yemeni civilians dead.

9. Never showed any determination to combat ISIS in Syria or Iraq

10.  Allowed a military coup in Burki Fasso to satisfy the interest of the multinational genetically altered companies

It’s a record to behold with some awe, and it gets worse.

A newly released report reveals Obama is the greatest arms exporter since the Second World War.

The dollar value of all major arms deals overseen by the first five years of the Obama White House now exceeds the amount overseen by the Bush White House in its full eight years in office by nearly $30bn.

Hail the chief

America’s arms-dealer-in-chief has flooded the most volatile corner of the world, the Middle East, with guns, bombs, fighter jets, tanks and missiles.

In an interview, William Hartung, director of the Arms and Security Project at the Centre for International Policy, told Democracy Now he was “astonished that Obama had sold this much”. He added: “I mean, I knew there were record deals with the Saudis, but to outsell the eight years of Bush, to sell more than any president since World War II, was surprising even to me, who follows these things quite closely. The majority, 60 percent, have gone to the Persian Gulf and Middle East, and within that, the Saudis have been the largest recipient of things like US fighter planes, Apache attack helicopters, bombs, guns, almost an entire arsenal they’ve purchased just in the last few years.”

Hartung also points out that this breathtaking bundle of war tools not only makes its way to stable regimes and governments, but also to states on the verge of collapse, which ultimately means many of these arms end up in the hands of militia groups across the region, which results in an all too predictable conclusion: more death and chaos.

Investigative journalist Dr Nafeez Ahmed says that if you want to trace the origins of certain jihadist groups, all you need to do is “follow the money”. He notes: “Anyone can have bad, horrific, disgusting ideas. But they can only be fantasies unless we find a way to manifest them materially in the world around us.” US arms sales to failing states and non-state militias is providing those with “disgusting ideas” the material infrastructure to play out their fantasies.

In other words, the deluge of US arms into the region is making conflicts, rivalries, and unrest even more deadlier, and with the US having little idea whose hands much of this weaponry ends up in.

“We don’t know the full numbers, but in Iraq the security forces abandoned large amounts of the weaponry to ISIS.

US-armed rebels in Syria, armed by the CIA, went over to join ISIS.

There’s $500mn missing of weapons in Yemen. Some think it’s gone to the Houthis. Some think it’s gone to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,” said Hartung.

“Of course, there’s arms on both sides, because the government and the forces have split in this war. So it’s quite possible every side of that war in Yemen may have some level of US weaponry. So it’s really gone, you know, haywire. It’s sort of what I call the boomerang effect, when US arms end up in the hands of US adversaries.”

But what amounts to “haywire” for the Middle East amounts to massive profits for the US, and on that score no single entity is more profitable and more beneficial to America’s balance of trade than Saudi Arabia.

Arming Saudi

The Congressional Research Service found that since October 2010 alone, President Obama has agreed to sell $90.4bn in arms to the Gulf kingdom.

“That President Obama would so enthusiastically endorse arming such a brutal authoritarian government is unsurprising, since the United States is by far the leading arms dealer (with 47% of the world total) to what an annual State Department report classifies as the world’s “least democratically governed states,” notes Micah Zenko, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Obama has done little to promote democracy or bring an end to terror.

When children in Gaza pick up unexploded ordinance, they see “Made in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.”

In 2008, the United Nations banned the use of cluster munitions – an agreement the US is yet to ratify.  (Saudi airplanes dropped such weapons on Yemen)

Why? Cluster bombs are the number one seller for Textron Systems Corporation – a Wall Street-listed company located in Providence, Rhode Island. For $38 per share, you can add the sale of cluster bombs to your stock portfolio.

In February of this year, the Obama administration announced it would allow the sale of US manufactured armed drones to its allies in the Middle East. According to the Teal Group, a research and analysis firm, the sale of drones is expected to double from $5bn to $11bn over the course of the next decade.

This means countries with horrific human rights records – regimes whose power is dependent on the repression of its people – will have access to the most brutally effective tool available for repression management. While the Obama administration insists the sale of drones will be made on a “case-by-case” basis, it’s laughable that the US gets to decide who gets these aerial killers given the US’s own use of drones often violates international law.

In fact, both a 2013 Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch report found that US drone strikes were killing far more civilians than the Obama White House was letting on, and these strikes were nearly always in violation of international law.

Drone dynamics

Furthermore, armed unmanned airborne vehicles have the potential to completely change the power dynamics in the Middle East.

“The drone is the ultimate imperial weapon, allowing a superpower almost unlimited reach while keeping its own soldiers far from battle,” notes James Risen in Pay Any Price: Greed, Power, and Relentless War.

There isn’t a country in the Middle East that isn’t clamouring for the Predator drone.

Obama, via US drone manufactures such as General Atomics, is making the dreams of some of the most oppressive regimes a reality.

From Egypt to Saudi Arabia, from Syria to Iraq, the forthcoming flood of such advanced weaponry promises to produce effects we are yet to imagine. “An advance fleet of missile-carrying drones could, overnight, turn a group like Hezbollah into a legitimate military power,” forewarns Risen. “A drone programme for Hezbollah could alter the military dynamics along the Israel-Lebanon border.”

These end games are not imagined by the Obama administration, nor any other US administration past or future because profits supersede democracy, human rights and international law; thus greed promises the Middle East endless war, and the US military oligarchs endless profits. Obama, like his predecessors, has made sure of that.

Got to stare at ugly pictures of handicapped soldiers and civilians “collateral damages”

It’s impolite to stare.

But when it comes to severely injured soldiers, maybe we don’t look enough; or maybe we’d rather not see wounded veterans at all.

That’s the message you get from photographer David Jay’s Unknown Soldier series.

Jay spent three years taking portraits of veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but before that — for nearly 20 years — he was a fashion photographer.

His stylish, artful images appeared in magazines like Vogue and Cosmopolitan.

“The fashion stuff is beautiful and sexy — and completely untrue,” he says.

Truth became the focus of Jay’s work for the first time about 10 years ago, when he started The SCAR Project, a series of portraits of women, naked from the waist up, with mastectomy scars.

Around the time he was taking those photos, he was also trying to comprehend the news coming from Iraq and Afghanistan.

May 25, 2015 3:43 AM ET

“We hear about ‘this number of men were killed’ and ‘this many were injured,'” Jay says, “and we think of them — maybe they got shot — or we don’t really picture what these injured men look like.”

So Jay visited Walter Reed National Military Medical Center outside Washington, D.C., and one of the first injured soldiers he met there was Capt. Nicholas Vogt.

In 2011, an explosive device detonated under Vogt’s feet in Afghanistan, nearly killing him. His legs had to be amputated.

(Thousands around the world are being exploded every day by cluster bombs and land mines, furnished by the US and England. England provided cluster bombs to Israel, 3 days before cease fire in 2006, in order to prevent people from returning home. 10 years later, the UN are still demining south Lebanon))

“I had never seen anything like it,” Jay says. “It appeared that he ended at his waist.”

He asked Vogt if he would be willing to be photographed.

“And Nicholas was very kind and said, ‘Listen, I understand what you’re doing but I don’t think I can take part in that, certainly [not] right now,'” Jay recalls.

About a year later, Jay was back at Walter Reed and from across the room he heard someone yell, “Hey, photographer!”

This time, Vogt wanted to participate. He’d been working hard at his recovery and seeing results. He was swimming a lot and he had a girlfriend (a nurse at Walter Reed who is now his fiancé). Vogt gave Jay permission to take his picture, but he had some parameters.

“I wanted to make sure there was action, it was movement,” Vogt says. “Because I didn’t want to portray myself as someone that’s just waiting for medical retirement and going to be stationary for the rest of my life.”

David Jay delivered. In his portrait of Vogt, he captures that sensation of jumping into a swimming pool and feeling your body descend to the bottom. Vogt’s arms are stretched out and his eyes are tightly shut. Beneath his black swim trunks, there is nothing.

Vogt doesn’t know how other people will react to the portrait, but he’s glad he did it. “I just know I felt fulfilled afterwards,” he says. “I felt like it represented me as a person. Yeah, I was happy with the result.”

Army Spc. Jerral Hancock sits for a portrait with his son Julius. It is believed that Hancock was trapped under the wreckage of his Army tank in Iraq for half an hour before he was rescued.

Other portraits in Jay’s Unknown Soldier series are more graphic.

Take Army Spc. Jerral Hancock: On his 21st birthday, a roadside bomb hit the tank Hancock was driving in Iraq. The explosion sent shrapnel into his spine, paralyzing him.

Jay’s photographs of Hancock show him with his young son — in one, their eyes are fixed on each other; in another, they’re looking at the camera.

In both, the veteran is bare-chested, revealing his tattoos and the mangled skin and bone where his left arm was amputated.

Then there’s Sgt. Joel Tavera: When a rocket hit his Humvee in Iraq, he received third-degree burns across two-thirds of his body, including almost all of his face.

Jay believes these wounds belong to all of us: “You can imagine how many times each of these men and women have heard a parent tell their child, ‘Don’t look. Don’t stare at him. That’s rude.’

I take these pictures so that we can look; we can see what we’re not supposed to see. And we need to see them because we created them.”

Jay believes seeing is one step closer to understanding.

The Library of Congress has acquired images from his Unknown Soldier collection as part of its visual documentation of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Israel Filka Site: Fouad Seniora, Lebanon former PM, an Israeli Spy…?
Hezbollah Secretary General, Hassan Nasr Allah gave an extensive interview to the channel Al Mayadeen, a day before the car bombing of Bir Al Abed that harvested 26 killed and over 270 injured.
In that interview, corresponding to the anniversary of the cease fire of Israel preemptive war on Lebanon in 2006, and which lasted 33 day, Nasr Allah explained:
“On the 30th day of the war, Israel dropped all its preconditions in order to reach a UN resolution for a cease fire. The US and Israel dropped their conditions for the demilitarization of Hezbollah, the assembling of a 15,000 UN peace corps before retreating, or the return of the 400,000 Lebanese refugees to their villages and towns in the south… The return of the two kidnapped Israeli soldiers were to be dealt with in later swap negotiations for prisoners….
The problem was that the UN was waiting for the response of the Lebanese government agreement to the resolution for it to take effect.
Fouad Muhammad Seniora was the PM and he delayed the response for two days: He was an even more of a hardliner than Israel and US combined, and wanted that Hezbollah hands over its weapons to the Lebanese army, even knives, before he agrees to Resolution 1701.
What happened in the following two days?
1. Israel air bombed haphazardly the area of Dahiya, demolishing buildings in order to inflict maximum casualties among the civilians.
2. Israel demanded cluster bombs, and British Tony Blair PM obliged by shipping the bombs from a Scottish military depot. Israel spread 4 million tiny bombs in the south with the objective of delaying the return of the Lebanese to the south
Most Lebanese strongly suspected, if not convinced that Seniora was a US agent, but Israel Filka Site dropped this bombshell on August 2013: “Seniora has been an Israeli spy since 1974, and participated in the assassination of his boss Rafic Hariri PM in 2005…”
فؤاد السنيورة
The spy Fouad Seniora.
Israel Filka Site revealed that Israel Military censured an article by Aaron Goldbird (former Mossad agent) in the daily Haaretz that mentioned Lebanon former Fouad Seniora PM to be an Israeli spy since 1974.
Israel Filka Site pointed out in its report Bleu Farcom the following:
1. Commander Goldbird worked for the Mossad from 1970 to 1989 and was the “handler” of Seniora and met with him three time during Lebanon civil war.
2. After Goldbird retirement, Israel General Prosecutor ordered him never to leave Israel.
3. The story of how Seniora was enlisted in the Mossad was released to the Israeli dailies by Gelaad Levine, Goldbird’s lawyer.
4. Goldbird was responsible for training and following up on the foreign agents in Lebanon and he receive a file called Nour
5. Goldbird traveled to Beirut under a faked French  passport (#84/33455) and rented a furnished apartment in the resort town of Aley.
6. Goldbird called Nour, who was Fouad Mohammad Seniora from Saida, and trained him on communication facilities, safe connection, techniques for gathering pieces of intelligence, and confusing the investigators… All these training were conducted in 1974
7.  Goldbird met Seniora again in Tel Aviv in late 1976, Seniora arrived via Greece
8.  He met with Seniora again in Paris
9. And a third time in 1977 using a faked Jordanian passport.
10. Every time Seniora met with Goldbird, he would carry Lebanese sweet in the name of his family, claiming to be handmade by himself
11. Goldbird was dumbfounded as he watched Seniora on TV acting as Prime Minister to Lebanon.
12. Seniora offered Israel very important pieces of intelligence before and after he became Prime minister.
13. During Israel preemptive war on Lebanon in 2006, Seniora was Prime Minister and aided Israel far more than anyone could, particularly during his many meetings with the US administration personalities, journalists and his steadfast position against Hezbollah military power…
14. Professor Eliahu Penysson claims that it was Seniora who gave the assassins of his master Rafic Hariri the route that Hariri would be taking from the parliament
15. Seniora rewarded Hariri’s personal security man Wissam Hassan, who failed to show up the day of the assassination, by appointing him chief of the internal intelligence section, which was heavily funded and closely supported by the US, France, England and many Arab governments.
Note 1: The day the cease fire officially took effect, the Lebanese refugees returned on the same day and lived in tents for months and worked their lands. They did not wait for anyone to give them permission to return and crossed rivers and makeshift bridges on feet.  The cluster bombs are still killing and injuring Lebanese civilians since 2006, and the de-mining project is not over yet, for lack of funding.
Note 2: Seniora worked closely with Israel and allowed Israel to establish dozen of “safe houses” and weapon depots in Beirut till 2008.  He ordered that Hezbollah relinquish connecting fixed land lines that cannot be easily be monitored. Hezbollah overran all these safe houses, called private security services and Seniora was ousted as PM.
Note 3: The Algerian daily Al Shouruk published that Seniora code name was Nour with a file # 345548 and it was Seniora who forwarded to the Israeli the schedule and route of Rafic Hariri movements when Hariri was assassinated by a violent car explosion on February 1975. Seniora visited Israel via Greece and met his Israeli agents in the USA and Europe…

“Depleted Uranium bombs”? Not that depleted at all…

What the US military calls Depleted Uranium (DU) are only 40% less active than the enriched uranium used in nuclear power plants. The DU are not that performing in generating power, but they are as toxic to people, soil and water contamination… for thousands of years.

The US hold 50% of the world reserve of DU, and it found an economical expedient to contaminate “other people land” instead of the very costly “treatment” and storing of these extremely dangerous residues.

This “Silent Chernobyl“, repeated countless time in modern warfare, is harvesting million of lives and babies born with serious anomalies.

In the preemptive war on Iraq, starting in 1990 and then in 2003, the US and Britain dropped over 1,700 tons of DU bombs.

In Afghanistan, in the few days of the start of the preemptive war of 2002, over 3,000 tons were infesting the landscape.

(In addition to DU bombs, cluster bombs and phosphorous bombs were used. The irony is that after flooding the land with yellow Coca Cola can-sized cluster bombs, the US dropped food stuff in yellow parcels in the same area. The children were rushing to eat and were killed by the 20% of unexploded cluster bombs…)

In Kosovo, the US dropped just 20 tons of DU bombs and missiles on 105 targeted sites: The rate of solid cancer increased 5 folds within a few years.

The soil contamination in these countries are 2,000 times higher than the normal average.

Research and investigation to the health consequences in Afghanistan are still hard to conduct, but in Iraq the results are opened to the public perusal.

The rate of leukemia is 38 times, of infantile cancer 12 times, breast cancer 10 times, infantile mortality 4 times more elevated than average.

In Iraq, the rate of babies born without eyes (anophtalmy) has increased 250,000 folds the normal occurrence!

Pr. A. Durakovic at the medical Georgetown center said that DU dust is the worst toxin that sciences have produced when inhaled or digested.

Usually, kids of veteran soldiers who served in these war ravaged countries exhibit much higher anomalies than ordinary soldiers who fought in “more civilized lands”

Do you know that the military budget of NATO represents 70% of the world military budget?
