Who are the Israelites?  From Abraham to the Macabe Kingdom (Chapter one); (March 19, 2009)

Note: It might turn out to be a lengthy essay: I will split it in a series of small chapters.

There is huge confusion and out of matter relations between the abstract belief concepts among the Christians and the context of their religion.  No wonder that Christianity generates as many splits as abstraction can sustain.  Without firm comprehension of the customs and traditions in the Levant and the geographical, historical, and religious context the Christians, in the entire spectrum of sects, will stay disoriented and out of touch with their identity.  It is beneficial to set the geographical and historical background of the Levant (mainly, current Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria).

I will have, reluctantly, to skip thousands of years of major civilizations in the Near East and Mesopotamia in order to focus on the subject.  Thus, I start from the period that Abraham and his successive clans settled in the Land of Canaan, then the period that the Hebrews of Moses sneaked in Palestine, then the Kingdom of David and Salomon that lasted less than a century, then the split of Salomon’s Kingdom into 12 districts or tribes, then the schism between the Samaritans and the Hebrews of Judea, then the deportations of the Samaritans and then the Hebrews of Jerusalem to Babylon, then the contribution of Cyrus of Persia to the reconstruction of the temple of Jerusalem in the 6th century BC, then the Seleucid Dynasty that lasted two centuries, then the revolt of the Macabeans and their Kingdom that lasted less than a century, then the conquest of Pompeii, the Roman General, to the Levant, then the advent of Jesus Christ, the first Christian communities, the conclave of Nicee (Turkey) in 425 during Emperor Constantine, then the establishment of the Ashkenazi Hebraic Kingdom in the Caucasus till its destruction in 950, then the schism between Papal Rome and Constantinople around the year 1000, then the Crusaders’ campaigns that lasted a century, then the schism between Papal Rome and Martin Luther and Calvin in late 15th century, then the emergence of the various sects in England and then in the USA such as the Mormons, the Jehovah Witnesses, the Baptists, and the New Conservative sects in the south of the USA, and finally, the re-colonization of Palestine by the Central Europe Ashkenazi Zionists in the 20th century.

Period one: Abraham was very familiar with the customs, traditions, and culture of the Land when he decided to settle in Canaan. Abraham was a genuine leader of the Land.  He paid the tribute, the tithe, to the highest priest of the Land Melki Sadek and recognized the high sacerdotal rank of Melki Sadek who worshiped El (pronounce Eel) as the all unifying God of the Land. Issac and Jacob also paid the tithe to the highest priest of the Land.

For example, Abraham had no piece of land in Canaan; his clan let their goats and sheep graze in unclaimed lands. As there was a death in the family Abraham resolved to prepare for his burial; he sent a third party to ask Afroun son of Sohar of the tribe of Hath for a small piece of land to bury the dead. Abraham said: “I am a guest in your land. Could you give me a swath so that I may bury what is in front of me?”  Every village had a burying ground facing east and guests, by the custom of hospitality, could be enjoying the same facilities. Afroun replied: “Abraham you are a reverend and I shall bury the deceased in the best of our graves” Abraham had set his mind to settle in Canaan and wanted his own burial ground, thus he asked to buy a piece of land.  Afroun replied: “A land of no more than 400 silver shekels should not be an obstacle” Abraham got the hint and sent the amount.  This polite and diplomatic negotiation is part of the Levant customs thousand of years before Abraham came to Canaan.

Period two:  Moses led all the strangers in Egypt who were ordered to leave because they supported the previous monarch Akhenaton. The tribes of Moses were swelled by other foreigners who left in a hurry with “unleavened bread”, meaning at night. Those Egyptian Hebrew tribes were not familiar with the culture and traditions of the Land.  They occupied land by the sword and committed genocide in every town they entered. For example, “Joshua (Yashou) son of Noun entered the town of Makid, and exterminated its inhabitants as he did with the king of Hebron (Ariha), then progressed to Lebna, then Lakish, then Horam, the Ajloun, then Habroun, then to Dabeer and killed the kings, destroyed the towns, slaughtered the handicapped, the babies and even the animals; any breathing inhabitant was massacred in these towns and villages”

The God of the Hebrew was called Jehovah, sort of a totem to discriminate themselves from the tribes of the Land.  The God of the Land was El and all the other minor Gods were sorts of patron saints to syndicates and towns that felt the need for an identity.  The Hebrew wanted Jehovah to establish a Kingdom on earth in any way available because their culture was different from the culture of the Levant.

Solomon got to appreciate the culture and civilization of the Land.  He cooperated and negotiated with the King of Tyr Ahiram to build the temple in Jerusalem and also to build a sea fleet.  The fleet was wrecked at its first attempt to take to the sea; they say “Les Hebraiques n’avaient pas the pied marin” (they had not the mariners’ feet). In fact, no Kingdom in Judea ever controlled the sea coast.

The Hebrews in Judea sank into abject materialism and developed 640 Laws to regulate their daily life.  Thus, the Hebrews of Moses viewed the inhabitants of the Land as their enemies to be subjugated and cowed into submission for the loot. The detailed gory tales in the Bible are mostly from that bloody period.

Period three: The original Jews of the Land and the indigents before the settlement of the Hebrews of Moses where chased out of Judea.  They regrouped in Samaria and Galilee “of Nations” and formed their own fiefdoms which were called Israel or the “Tribes of El” in Aramaic.  The “tribes” of Asher, Zebulon, and Naphtali settled in Galilee and merged with the culture of the land.

The Hebrews of Judea considered the districts of upper and lower Galilee as “Goyim” or gentile of many “Nations” but they viewed the Samaritans as Jews hostile to the strict Hebraic Laws and worshiping El instead of Jehovah. For a palpable political appreciation you may consider the split between the Sephardim and the Ashkenazi in current Israel. The Ashkenazi of Central Europe dominate the economic and policy making; a fresh immigrant from Europe can contemplate to rise quickly in the political and economic landscape while the Jews of the Arab and Moslem World have to fight the good fight for the crumbs. It is of no wonder that the Ashkenazi decided for Hebrew to be the national language that in no way compared to the versatile and rich Yiddish German/Slavic language they used to write and communicate with.  Hebrew was simply selected for its political connotation.  Galilee generated four prophets though the Pharisee caste mocked Jesus saying that “no prophets can come from Galilee”.

Period four: In 167 BC, the Seleucid King Antiochus IV Epifanus banned the worshiping of Jehovah, forbid circumcision, and ordered burning the Bible; those decrees were executed efficiently and occasionally by harsh measures. Only the Hebrews of Judea revolted against these decrees; they were led by the priest Matatia of the Hashmonid tribe. Matatia’s son Judah, nicknamed Macabe (the handler of ax), resumed the revolt until he vanquished the Seleucid King.  From 166 to 63 BC the zealot Macabe Kingdom ruled the Land. In 103 BC, Aristopoulos, son of Simon Macabe, ordered every citizen to be circumcised and to abide by Moses’ Law.  Consequently, the non-Jews of Galilee were subjected to these rules, including the ancestors of Jesus Christ who lived in upper Galilee (current south Lebanon).  It is worth mentioning that much later, in 132 AC, Emperor Adrian banned circumcision and the Hebrews in Judea revolted; the revolt of Barcoba (son of the star) was squashed and the remaining Jews experienced the greatest dispersion.

During the Hellenistic period, God El was called Helios (the Greek added an H before an E at the beginning of a word; for example Heliopolis means the city of El)

The Nazarene: An unpublished coherent biography (December 16, 2008)

Preamble: Over a hundred different manuscripts (Bibles) have been written on Jesus and his message in the early days of Christianity and before the four New Testaments (that were written by Mathew, Luke, Mark and John) that the Council of Nicee (Turkey) in 325 decided to select as the official representatives of the story of Jesus.

(Ironically, the selected Bibles were written in Greek; maybe the language was one of the main factors for retaining them).

There are evidences that the Bible of Mathew was originally written in Aramaic before being translated into Greek. Many of these early manuscripts were written by the disciples of Jesus and close companions like Barnaby (the spiritual guide of Paul and who accompanied Paul in his first apostolic trip in the interior of Turkey),

Thomas (not necessarily the twin brother of Jesus who established the first Christian community in the port of Deb on the Indus River), Philip, Bartholomew, and others. There are many folk tales that are to be considered as more valid than the canonical “truths or facts”.

What we are told is that Jesus had his Bar Mitzvah in Jerusalem and he sat among the priests and had a discussed with them.  In between this event and his preaching adventure (over 25 years) the Church has nothing to offer but that Jesus obeyed his parents.

Even the story of his birth until his Bar Mitzvah is not reliable and could be considered as one of the acceptable version.

It is said that Jesus was 33-year old when he was crucified; that is the minimum age because Jesus was older and probably close to be forty.

How Jesus spent the time in between (a span of at least 20 years) and where did he live and grew to maturity?  As is the custom in Judaism, boys were married at 13 and Jesus was not to be an exception but he had an outlet to tradition:  Nazareth was a hotbed for the Essenien Jewish sect located in Qumran (not far from the western side of the Dead Sea).

The Essenien sect (cabala) lived in a closed community; women were not included, and the members vowed celibacy; they were vegetarians, ate together, distributed their wealth to the whole community, and each member worked according to his skills.

The members wore a unique white dress code in summer and another outfit in winter. The members of this community were known to be excellent healers. This sect was also labeled the “Baptist“, the “Nazoreen” and “Ossene” (the Strong).

The teachings of Buddhism had reached this community two centuries ago because King Ashoka of India had dispatched Buddhist monks to this region. It is very plausible that Jesus opted to join the Qumran community to avoid being wed. The Essenien caste had branches in Alexandria (Egypt) called Therapeutic or healers and also in Syria.

John the Baptist was Essenien.  The fact that the canonic testaments reveal that John the Baptist didn’t recognize Jesus at the first sight might suggests that the two men didn’t meet in the community of Qumran at the same periods or that Jesus had left the community long time ago: Jesus was a traveler and not a community dweller.

There are evidences that Jesus was a wide traveler, knew many languages and was highly versed in religions and other legal aspects of the land.  It is very plausible that Jesus visited Alexandria, Syria, and even reached India; he lingered in India and Persia before returning to Syria and Galilee.

A manuscript named “Himis” was discovered in Kashmir, close to the city of Leh, which described the “Lost years of Jesus”. In that manuscript it is referred to Jesus as Issa (an Aramaic name that the Arabs adopted) who traveled to most of the Holy Cities in India such as Djagguernat, Radjagriha, and Benares, and was frequently chased out by the clergies (sacerdotal officers).

The manuscript relates multitudes of pronouncements and teachings by Issa that are compatible to the canonic Bibles. Issa fled to Kashmir, Afghanistan, and Persia.

It is plausible that a Christian sect in the vicinity of Kashmir wrote that narrative. It is also plausible that Jesus survived his wounds and headed eastward: the shroud of Milan have marks of a body still hot and not of a cadaver.

I frankly cannot see why this story should be thrown out; countless adolescents tour the world nowadays; it was even more common in those times for young people trekking to learn and attend renowned schools.

Jesus knew more than three language; Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek (the language of the educated of the time) and Latin since he spoke to Roman centurions and Pontus Pilate.

It is also narrated that Jesus lived for a time in Sidon (a Lebanese port) teaching in its famous law school.  His mother Mary and part of her family moved to a town nearby (Qana) when Jesus was a lecturer in the law school.

It is no fluke incident that Jesus and Mary attended a wedding in Qana (a town close to Sidon); it is also very rational that Jesus decided to start his message after Qana when his mother removed the cover of secrecy and exposed his supernatural gifts of turning water to wine.

Jesus was a high priest in the Essen sect and preached a message based in symbolism and fables and was highly spiritual and staunchly anti-Pharisee.  The Jewish cabala sect is a branch of the Essen sect and is founded on the Sumerian theology and myths.

Albert Schweitzer, a theologian, physician, thinker, organ player and Nobel Peace laureate offered his version on Jesus.  Schweitzer said, based on the first two Bibles of Mathew and Marc, that Jesus preached his message to the general public in the last year before his crucifixion.  Six months, all in all, was the period that Jesus was accompanied by the public; the remaining months he spent them among his close disciple around Caesarea of Philippi.

In the beginning, Jesus accepted the label of a prophet among the prophets but then he reached the belief that he is the Messiah of the Jews.

Thus, he sent his disciples two by two to preach the message of the end of time.  Jesus was very surprised when all his disciples returned safe and sound; he expected his disciples to suffer terribly and be put to death if the “prophesy of end of time” was to be accomplished.

Jesus then decided that God would accept his sacrifice and save his close disciples from atrocious deaths before the first coming of the Messiah.  The version of what happened in Jerusalem and Jesus crucifixion can be followed in my article “Judas Iscariot“.

Note 1:  Jesus had a large extended family; he had many brothers and sisters and his grandmother Ann married a second time and had many boys and girls.  Mathew made a valiant attempt through 42 generations to link Jesus to David. If we have no records of Jesus own family then how could we go that far back in genealogy?

The Christian Jews wanted a Jewish King very badly.  Actually, several early Christian communities unified the New Testament into one coherent book and had eliminated Mathew’s ridiculous endeavor.

Note 2: The first Christian communities emulated the monastic and ascetic life of the Essenien sect. A few early Christian sects went beyond the ascetic of the Essenians; for example, the author Amine Maaluf, in his book on Mani, mentions a community called in Aramaic “Halle Haware” or white garment clad people; this caste did not eat meat or drink wine or leavened bread; the disciples wore white garments from top to bottom, were scared of fire (symbol of evil), and thus would eat only raw fruits and vegetables grown by the community.

Outside food was prohibited and considered “female” food because women were banished from the community and the female names in the scriptures were not mentioned unless the names represented calamities and bad augurs.  Travelers of this community carried with them the unleavened bread and produce of their home grown community because outside food was not pure.

Many monophysist Christian sects (Jesus is only divine) like the Jacobite and Nastourian (a name originated from the name Nazareth) had reached China before Islam (around 600 AC); they translated their Bible into Chinese and were permitted to preach their brand of religion and build churches.

The Nastourians built churches all along the Silk Road and many of these edifices can still be found in Tibet, Mongolia, China, Afghanistan, and Persia.

It is also believed that the Prophet Mohammad learned about Christianity from these sects that were marginalized by the official Byzantine Church and labelled “heretics” and persecuted.

Bi-weekly report (#8) on Lebanon (January 15, 2009)

A couple of rockets were fired yesterday from Shebaa on northern Israel and another five rockets last week on Naharia; Israel responded in kind.  No group claimed the attack, simply because no groups in Lebanon did it.  These two salves of rockets were CIA initiated because Shebaa is completely under Israeli control and last week salve was fired in areas under the total control of the UN troops.  If we know that the UN contingents are constituted of 22 States and each contingent has its own intelligence services and connected to their Embassies then it is doubtful that the UN is ignorant of who fired the rockets.  The UN peace keeping forces know who fired the rockets and they should be investigating the elements connected to the CIA.

Why the CIA would fire rockets in northern Israel?  My contention is that there are two plausible reasons; first, Bush Junior would like very much Israel to try again to weaken Hezbollah before he exits power but Israel is no longer in such mood: even tiny Gaza with no exits for supplies has resisted for 20 days and is still launching rockets on the neighboring Zionist colonies.  The second more plausible reason is to open the airwaves of the multimedia for the regurgitation of the midget politicians in the March 14 coalition.  These insipid and odorless defeatist politicians had nothing to say during the horrors of Gaza; they certainly would like Hamas to be defeated, and some of them would love to have over one million Palestinians dead (they performed hand to hand genocide in the Palestinian camps of Sabra and Shatila in 1982); they would not dare join the US and Israeli positions because the internal situation in Lebanon is too volatile for stupid commentaries.  Thus, the two salves of rockets permitted the feather weight politicians to reiterate that the government is the sole authority for ordering military activities.  Well, they had their 15 minutes of babblings and they are thanking the US for that opportunity.  Personally, I think that although the Israeli government didn’t take these rockets seriously, the Zionist colonists in northern Israel must have recalled their plights on July 2006 and urged their government to put an end to the attacks in Gaza.

General Aoun lambasted the “potential” politicians who are pretending to form a “moderate” or “medial” or “independent” group for the next Parliamentary election.  Deputy Aoun said “How can you be moderate between ending the embezzlement of the finances and allowing a few stealing to go on?  How can you be moderate between stabilizing the political climate with Syria and permitting a few unreliable activities of animosity against Syria?”

The Ex-President of the Palestinians in the West Bank, Mahmoud Abbass, dared proclaim that “Egypt, the USA, and Israel assured him that the military operation in Gaza should not last one week to exterminate Hamas”. How stupid can a politician be?  Anyone with the word “Abbass” attached to his name should quickly change it; otherwise people will regard him as stupid:  Abbass connote Stupid and Traitor to his people.

Qatar managed to hold a formal meeting of the Arab foreign ministers; only Moubarak of Egypt, the Wahhabi monarch of Saudi Arabia, and the dictator of Tunisia refused the invitation. Lovely, at least this Arab summit, without the heavy weight traitors amidst them, has a chance to raise the flag of human dignity and boldly face the genocidal plans on the Palestinians by the Bush Junior Administration and the European Union leaders.  Now that the masks have been totally dropped by Moubarak of Egypt and the Wahhabi monarch of Saudi Arabia, it is hard to envision Seniora PM of Lebanon and Saad (of the Hariri clan) resuming their patriotic declarations and their claim of honest brokers for the stability and peace of Lebanon..  I like to remind Seniora and Saad and Samir that even Dracula Condo Rice felt terribly ashamed when Bush Junior ordered her not to vote for the UN resolution 1820 for a complete cease fire in Gaza; she simply didn’t cast a vote!

Hilary Clinton insists on not negotiating with democratically elected Hamas in Gaza. What Barak Obama meant by change?  How Obama is to change anything if the cat ate his tongue and the Zionist devil bought his soul?

The Horror!  This Silence of the powerful; this Silence of the “good guys” in the “Land of the Free” watching a genocide in progress.  The Horror! The Silence of an Obama leading a Silent majority while over 500 babies died and 3,000 seriously injured under debris and by phosphorous burning bombs and the genocide of famine, lack of potable water, and of medicines going strong for 20 days..

“The Gospel according to Pilate” by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt

Written on May 9, 2007

“The Gospel according to Pilat” is a novel of three parts:

The first part is an attempt of describing the life of Jesus as a human who received his vocation and then spreading the message very reluctantly, especially for performing miracles, without joy as if against his will.  Yechou3a (Jesus) saved Pilate’s wife Claudia from bleeding and she did her utmost to save Jesus’ life.

Jesus decided that he had to die and didn’t do anything to change the process though he could have easily go free; he didn’t answer Herode’s questions or satisfied his wishes for a single miracle and looked lame and wretched and not the messenger of a God.

Pilate whipped him to diffuse the anger of the crowd who wanted blood but Jesus didn’t respond accordingly and didn’t complain or cried or shouted or showed that he didn’t deserve the punishment.

The crowd even selected the murderer Barabas to be freed instead of Jesus and Pilate realized that Jesus was indeed pretty ugly compared to Barabas.

The second part is the main one which is a series of letters that Ponce Pilate, the Roman prefect of Judea and appointed by Rome with the help of his well established wife Claudia Procula, had written to his brother Titus in Rome describing in details his investigative processes undertaken to recover the corps of Jesus (Yechou3a) that was missing from the grave.

Pilate and Caife, the head of the Jewish Sanhedrin, had interest in recovering the corps because the rumors were spreading that the Son of God had resurrected and was appearing to people in the flesh.  Caife could be in serious trouble because the Jews would harass the traditional priestly structure and stop following the Jewish strict laws. As for Pilat the reason was because the Jews might end up revolting against the Romans if united under an imaginary belief that their promised Messiah has been murdered by the Romans.

After several cuts in his investigations Pilate came to a conclusion that it was Herode, the King of Galilee, who snatched the corps in order to start a Jewish uprising and be elected King to all of Palestine. Pilat came to this idea because Herode had been in communication with Yechou3a and allowed him to spread his message in Galilee for three years hoping that Jesus’ followers might serve his political schemes to dominion.

The other indices were that Jesus appeared to people in locations belonging to Herode’s properties and the messages were identical such as: “Rejoice, Christ is alive; spread the Good News”.  Pilate’s suspicions were well founded because the first person to claim having seen Jesus alive was Salome, the 16 year-old daughter of Herodiade, wife of King Herode, and who asked for the head of Yuhanan the Plunger who baptized everyone who cared in the Jordan River and announced the arrival of the Messiah.

After Salome, Jesus appeared to two pelerines of Emmaus who had followed him for a few weeks when he was preaching the message and Miriam of Magdalena.  They all were telling their testimonials among crowds in Jerusalem

Apparently, Herode was shocked that the corps has resurrected and that the rumors were gaining force and was convinced that he killed the real Messiah and would thus suffer eternal damnation; he went unconscious, as he did when the head of Yuhanan the Plunger (John the Baptist) was brought to him on a silver platter three years ago.

Caife was always one step ahead of Pilate in the investigation after the corps was first declared missing and he was conducting his searches without informing Pilate.  Caife went to the grave and then to Yoseph d’Arimathie, the rich cultivator who undertook to carry the corps and bury it, and to Nicodemos, the doctor in Jewish laws, both of them suspects of hiding the corps.

Pilate also located where the disciples were hiding and he realized that they were too scared of being persecuted. The disciples sounded upset and humiliated of being cheated out of their works and families and following a mere mortal.

Pilate ordered the disciples out of Jerusalem and they were happy for their freedom. Only Yohanan, the 18 year-old son of Zebedee, who was from a rich family of Jerusalem and a relative of Caife was not afraid and stayed in Jerusalem and tried hard to be everywhere where Jesus might appear; he was completely convinced that the angel Gabriel has saved Jesus as many believed this explanation.

Herodiade had asked Pilat to consider the theory that a double (sosie) might be playing the role of the resurrected Jesus; Pilate thus interrogated the young Yohanan and discovered that he was not a suspect.

The rational Roman Pilate reasoned that Jesus did not actually die and they failed in their searches because they were after a corpse and not an ailing but living individual.  Pilate asked his Roman physician about this eventuality and the physician responded that five hours is not sufficient for one to die of asphyxia, especially that no bones were broken nor the ankle tendon nor any muscles were severed to accelerate the process.  The physician demonstrated that the Romans invented crucifixion because the victim is left to die slowly for several days.

Pilate set about locating a sick and most probably dying Jesus who was being cured and cared for. He investigated further on with Youssef d’Arimathie who was the prime suspect for forcing the premature descent of Jesus from the cross and the drugging of the Jewish guards on the grave on orders from Caife.

Claudia quit her palace toward Galilee and joined the masses on foot converging toward Nazareth because the rumors were that Jesus will appear to his disciples in Galilee.

The Roman physician after reviewing the facts proposed that Jesus most probably died and Pilate could not refute his wife’s confirmation that she was one of the four women who were around the dead corps of Jesus when it was lowered from the cross.

Pilate joined the masses on foot and changed his views from logic and rationality because of the faith of his beloved wife but could not bring himself to believe in the resurrection of Jesus: he was confident that once the last of the disciples died then the testimonials will end and this movement would stop to exist, especially because nothing was put on paper and the disciples could not read or write or communicate with the right people who can aid in propagating the message of peace and love among all the people on earth.

The third part is basically an explanation of the author’s reasons for describing Jesus characters differently than accepted by tradition.
