One theory says that if you treat people well, you’re more likely to encourage them to do what you want, making all the effort pay off. Do this, get that.
Another one, which I prefer, is that you might consider treating people with kindness merely because you can. Regardless of what they choose to do in response, this is what you choose to do. Because you can.

Note: Four decades ago, the US very wealthy 1% people used to invest part of their colossal accumulated wealth on “philanthropic” institutions. Not out of the kindness of their heart, but because it was good for business.
The US value system agreed that inequality among social classes has a terrible cost to business and that showing off a sense of “General interest” would save the capitalist system.
This is No longer the case: strike with fury and awe the lesser classes
