Bigotry and indolence: What a miserable couple

Apparently, Western Europeans and Jews of  “noble classes” were sent to Buchenwald, whereas Eastern Europeans, the gypsies, and the poorer Jews from the ghettos and shtetl were shipped to the Polish concentration camp of Auschwitz.  Many Jews in Auschwitz were directed to gas chambers while the prisoners in Buchenwald mostly died of famine, diseases, and poor health.  Prisoners in Buchenwald had a higher probability of surviving and returned from the camps in the shape of skeletal.  The Zionist movement named the Shoah to mean only the returning Jews from Nazi camps.

The Western media would like to repeat that “Arabs” (always lumped together regardless of States or religions or locations) are blind to the Shoah.  First, no Jews in “Arab” lands were sent to concentration camps in order for them to see returning Jews from the Shoah.

Second, the few returning Jews who immigrated to Palestine were isolated in agricultural collectivities or members of terrorist Zionist groups such as the Irgun, Stern, or the Haganah.  The returning Jews were terrorizing and harassing Palestinians in their towns and villages and massacring all of them, children and women.  The only returning Jews that the Palestinians might have seen were wearing guns and demolishing their homes without warning, the random violence tactics of terror organizations.

Third, the “Arabs” were prisoners in their own Ottoman caste system and suffered isolation and ignorance for over five centuries.  They barely saw the next town communities!  The Western nation governments and colonial powers never raised any monument for the suffering Arab and Palestinian Shoah, or cared to establishing a homeland for them.

They say that Zionism encourages Jews to be blinded by the Shoah.  Most probably, it is the Western media and governments doing their best to demonstrate outrageous penitence by supporting all kinds of horrible activities against human rights by the Israeli State.

Apartheid policies of Israel against Palestinians (the other miserable face of the Shoah)  are not deemed that serious to be condemned at the UN or economic,  financial, and military embargoes levied against Israel.  The new generations of Jews in Israel are tired of constant reminders of the holocaust and succumbing to another one.  They want out of the three years military service and killing as many Palestinians at point-blank.

In 1982, Lebanon was suffering a terrible civil war.  Lebanese killing one another, Palestinians killing one another and Syria had invaded Lebanon at the urge of the US.  And here you have Israel Menahem Begin PM proclaiming: “Israel must invade Lebanon or suffer another Auschwitz.”  What?  What Auschwitz had to do with a preemptive war that permitted Israel to occupying South Lebanon for 25 years?  Israel frequently deliver the stupidest reasons for invading neighboring  “Arab” States.

Zionism insists that “The Shoah is our pain and our affair; a secret that nobody else can comprehend”.  What, Armenians cannot comprehend their plight and shouldn’t have their own “secret”? What about the Slaves, the Gypsies, the homosexuals and the many minorities that died in Nazi concentration camps?  What about the current holocaust in Rwanda, Congo, Pakistan, Kosovo, Chechnya, Afghanistan, Palestine, and Lebanon?

Regis Debray should revise a long paragraph that sounds infamous to the Palestinians.  He wrote: “You see pictures of a Palestinian child getting out of a cave with arms raised; an old decrepit man on the ground being kicked by Israeli soldiers; an old woman in tattered cloth with joined hands imploring an Israeli soldier (to releasing her kid or letting her cross a barrier to go to a hospital)… The difference is that all these Palestinians are not going to any gas chambers.  They will serve ten years of prison without any due judicial procedures, they will get out crippled and handicapped, but they are not sent to gas chambers”

This is how Western writers have to apologize for the Shoah and their devoid meaning of penitence.

The British and French mandated powers in the Middle-East, along with their protegé the Zionist movement, were the initiator of random violence, of creating terror organizations, and planning and executing countless genocides, years before Nazi Germany came to power and emulated and fine-tuned their programs of crimes against humanity.

Fact is, Nazi Germany learned and assimilated the previous methods of humiliating indigenous people, applied by the British, French, and Zionist criminal organizations in Palestine and Syria. Fact is, Nazi Germany applied the racist check-list administered by the US to the immigrants, flocking to the land of “The Free”.

Do you remember the carpet bombing of Dresden in Germany?  Over 150,000 German civilians were burned carbonized by tons of phosphorous bombs.  Dresden had no military headquarters, no military factories, no industries…and it was destroyed to the ground.

Do you remember the carpet bombing in Viet Nam, Beirut, Gaza, Iraq…? Israel is still using phosphorous bombs in Lebanon and recently in Gaza (2008), as well as cluster bombs, 4 million of them peppered in south Lebanon in 2006…

They were the Masters of ignominious activities and still are.  The western powers and Israel may frequently try hard to sweep under the carpet their consistent tendency for criminal activities against the developing people, through intermediaries and mercenaries.  They are still funding, training, and planning for random violence through factions of religious extremists and racist mercenaries.

The citizens of the Free World are making the effort to going beyond indolence and bigotry to confronting the sustained efforts of the colonial mentality of apartheid. The citizens of the emerging Free World don’t want anything to do with humiliating the developing people to the altar of the vested interests of the 1% richest classes…

Mutual genocide: Armenians and Turks

Note: The Armenians in Lebanon demonstrated yesterday against the potential accord between Armenia and Turkey.  What is the story?

There are geographical locations and regions that are cursed historically.  This essay is not about cities that experienced frequent disasters by natural calamities; for example, we have cities that had vanished because built near active volcanoes such as Pompeii in Italy, others because of being located on seismic faults such as Beirut and lately the Abruzzi region in Italy, and others succumbing to tidal waves and hurricanes such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, the USA Gulf regions, and Rangoon where people perish by the hundred of thousands every year and keep rebuilding in the same devastated areas.

This article is about cities located on major trade routes and suffered recurring genocides because of human greed for domination and power.  I will focus on the city of Karss in Turkey on the eastern side of the Anatolia Plateau (Anadol).  Karss is built by the river Karss and a must cross location on the route from Georgia, Tabriz (Iran), the Caucasus and Tiflis. I urge my readers to recollect other cursed cities through history.

Eastern Anatolia and the Caucasus form one homogeneous geographic area in economy, culture, and social communication and trades. The Armenians on both sides preferred to pay allegiance to Christian Russia and wished that Russia would grant them administrative autonomy in the Caucasus; the Moslems on both sides paid allegiance to the Moslem Ottoman Empire. The triangle of the current States of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan were the scenes of major battle fields and invasions through history and is still a hot area till now.

The Nobel Literature Prize winner Orhan Pamuk published “Snow” that described the calamities suffered by the inhabitants of the Karss region.  The Armenian people lived in that region for a thousand years and then many waves of immigrants and refugees from persecutions flocked to it.  The Karss region hosted people from the Empires of Persia, Byzantium and then Moguls, Georgians, Kurds, and Cherkessk. In the 17th century, the Karss region was predominantly of Moslems and then Armenians were second in numbers.

The Russian Empire vied for this region since the 18th century. In 1827, Russia entered Karss and chased out over 27,000 Moslems and transferred 45,000 Armenians to this city from Iran and the Anatolian Plateau. The city of Yerevan (Capital of the current State of Armenia) that was mostly of Iranians was transformed demographically in 1827.  In every Russian invasion to the Karss region, the Russian troops could rely on the Armenian population for auxiliary regiments, logistics, and intelligence services. As the Russian troops vacated the region in 1829, over 90,000 Armenians fled with the Russians fearing well deserved persecutions.

During the Crimea War, that confronted Russia against the combined alliance of Britain, France, and the Ottoman, the Russians put siege on Karss in 1855 for many months and all the Ottoman army within the city was massacred.  The Paris treaty of 1855 forced the Russians to vacate the Karss region. The Ottoman troops retaliated heavily on the Armenians.

In 1859, the Cherkessk, led by their leader Shamel, revolted against the Russians and were defeated; many Christian Russian Orthodox were transferred to Karss to replace the Moslem Cherkessk.  The same eviction process befell three-quarter of the Moslems of Abkhazia in 1867.  Thus, in less than 30 years, the Russian Empire changed the demographics of the Caucasus from mostly Moslems to mostly Christians. Over 1, 200,000 Moslems were forced to transfer to other regions; 800,000 of the Moslems settled in the Ottoman Empire.

In 1877, the Russians amassed troops on the border with Karss; Sultan Abdel Hamid preempted the invasion by massacring the Armenians on ground that they will inevitably aid the Russians. After 93 days of war, the Russians entered Karss and a pogrom on the Moslems proceeded for many days. The treaty of San Estephanos relinquished the region to the Russian Empire. The Russians built a new city south of the city of Karess where the Emperor Alexander III met with his concubines and hunted. In the next 43 years, the Armenians harassed the Moslems of this region and thousand had to flee. In retaliation, Sultan Abdel Hamid formed in 1891 a special regiment of Kurdish cavalry with the purpose of harassing the Armenians of the Karss region and the pogrom around Lake Van raised an outcry in Europe.

During the First World War, the Armenians again aided the Russians and formed semi-regular armies to fight the Ottoman Empire.  Consequently, in 1915, the Ottoman Empire launched the genocide plan against the Armenians and thousands died of famine during the long march out of Turkey; the Armenians settled in Constantinople (Istanbul) and Adana shared in the mass persecution; only the Armenians in the Caucasus, within Russia, were spared.  The British occupied the Karss region in 1919 and gave some authority to the Armenians who gathered arms from the Moslems and gave them to the Armenians and another round of harassment and massacres took place.

The Turkish General Mustafa Kemal re-occupied the Karss region in 1920 after defeating the Armenian army: the Bolsheviks were then allied to the new Turkish Republic. The Russians transferred the Armenians from the region of Patum to Yerevan.

In 1927, all the properties of the Armenians in Karss were confiscated. The Armenians were robbed of a homeland because Turkey ceased Cyprus to Britain in exchange of guaranteeing the Karss region to Turkey.  Mustafa Kemal (Attaturk) also negotiated a political deal with France to relinquish the Syrian region of Alexandrite to Turkey, setting the premises for future regional feuds.

Nowadays, there are no Armenians in Karss; the imposing buildings of Tsarist Russia are government Administrative offices; a vast villa of 40 rooms is transformed into hospital, and a Jewish museum. An entire century of struggles, massacres, harassments, genocides, and useless hate to their neighbors in order to gain self-autonomy rewarded the Armenians nothing.  They had to wait for the break down of the Soviet Union to enjoy the Armenian State that is totally dependent in its economy on the neighboring States.  Kosovo, Kashmir, Jerusalem, Gaza, and Palestine are current examples of lost opportunities for stability and peace.

Armenia and Turkey owe each other deep apologies for the mutual genocide they perpetrated in history.  I applaud the rapprochement between the two neighboring states as a start for serious active and pragmatic apology and remuneration.

Bi-Weekly Report (#24) on the Middle East and Lebanon (May 28, 2009)

The weekly “Courrier International” failed to do its job on analyzing Syria’s policies.  Instead of investigating and doing leg works it opted to rely on the Washington Post and Now Lebanon, totally biased against anything related to Syria, for spreading its nonsense.  This weekly publishing is repeating the old story of what the successive US Administrations want from Syria with respect to facilitating the job of US military presence in Iraq. As usual, the catchy “Damascus does not get it” and “Could we have confidence in Bashar Assad ” summarizes the topic. As if the job and responsibilities of President Assad is to cajole and obey the US dicta for nothing in return, such as the Golan Heights that was captured by Israel since 1973.

The Washington Post and supposed “reporter” Karen De Young would like us to believe that the increase of “terrorist activities” in Iraq and in Mossoul last month can be linked to the laxity of Syria’s border patrols.  It seems that Al Qaeda has been active shipping “martyr terrorists” from northern African Arab States to blow up Iraqi Shiaa. What about the other sects, such as the minority Christian sects? The report stated that the Iraqi border patrols cannot do effectively their jobs because of lack of carburant. The Iraqi government has a depleted budget because of low oil prices on the international market and thus the border patrols drive along the vast borders with Syria 15 days out of 30; thus, Syria is to be blamed for the US insufficient funding for borders control.

The monthly “Le Monde Diplomatique” did its job concerning Albania and Kosovo. The US Administration is pushing to finish quickly the fast highway linking Pristina (the Capital of Kosovo) to the Adriatic Sea at the Albanian seaport of Durres. Apparently, the OTAN needs this strategic highway so that the 5th fleet could discharge military hardware and soldiers.  Close to the highway in Kosovo there is the largest US Camp Bondsteel military base by the town of Urosevac.  Close to the highway in the town of Kukes in Albania the US has finished a functional airport used by military cargo and denied access to civilian use and at the expense of the Albanian tax payers.  The story boils down to a Greek bank Alpha lent the Albanian government 300 millions Euros (guaranteed by the US) to build the super highway; the trick is that 65% of the Albanian budget is reserved for the infrastructure ministry and 75% of the budget of this ministry is allocated to this super highway.  The bombshell is that the US  Bechtel multinational will reap 44% profit on the cost of this super highway. The newly “independent” States of Kosovo, Montenegro, and Macedonia are quickly becoming the dumping ground for the NATO and the European Union economic, military, and environmental policies.

I watched the highly informative interview of retired General Jameel Al Sayyed with Maggie Farah on the OTV channel.  Jameel Al Sayyed was released recently from 4 years of detention with no formal court cases after the International Tribunal judged his imprisonment illegal and ordered him out along with 3 other officers. General Al Sayyed returned two day ago from France after resuming his depositions on Millis (former investigator to the assassination of Rafic Hariri) and Johnny Abdou (former retired Lebanon military intelligence chief) who fabricated the climate for Al Sayyed unjustified detention.   Al Sayyed will also work out the courts in Germany with respect to Millis.  Al Sayyed is a highly interesting character and a well spoken intelligent and honest personality. Al Sayyed said that it was the Lebanese officials who drew the Syrian counterparts into suspect transactions and corruptions.  Although every political leader in Lebanon has dealing with foreign States, Al Sayyed lambasted Saad Hariri and Samir Geaja for their incapacity in using proper “valves” that can shut down foreign interests to destabilizing Lebanon.

The German daily Der Spiegel reported excerpts from internet blogs posted by Syrian dissidents six months ago claiming that a special team of Hezbollah masterminded the assassination of late Lebanon Rafic Hariri PM.  The timing of that report, which the International Tribunal denied any knowledge, was evidence that the real perpetrators were scared shit of the victory of the opposition in Lebanon at the next Parliamentary election on June 7.  It meant that the opposition is not about to let the assassination case linger any longer and will pursue its own investigation or force the International Tribunal to move swiftly and close the doors to further political manipulations of that case. What exacerbated the political climate is that Lebanon has started dismantling systematically Israel’s spy webs and dangerous intelligence are accumulating relative to Israel involvement in many of the string of assassination cases in Lebanon since the murder of Rafic Hariri.in 2005.

The US Vice President Biden visited Lebanon for 6 hours before the publishing of the report and met with the leaders of the government alliances.  Lebanon has to expect the worst every time a US official pay us visit to give orders that Lebanon cannot satisfy.

Thanks to Walid Jumblat, one of the principal allies to the government, he quickly and adamantly lambasted this chimerical and fabricated report and proclaimed that the report was intended to draw Lebanon into another civil war between the Shiaa and the Sunni Moslem sects.  Saad Hariri (leader of the Future movement) and Seniora PM were forced into suspect silence; proof that they were aware of the plan that backfired on them, a plan that is backed by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, and the USA.
