How can you hold Infinity in the palm of your hand?

William Blake

“Know what it is to be a child . . .
To see a world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower,

Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.”

And I say:

Is life that chose me and made me survive all the hurdles and illnesses?

Are events that directed me in the alleys of life?

And guided me in the countless forks in my wandering?

Far away from the path that my parents wished me to take.

How many bends did I have to decide on?

Fact is they are the total strangers who came to the rescue

Strangers with plenty of pity to fellow man and living species.

Without their pity how could I have summoned the remaining energy

To move forward and leave an imprint on this chaotic earth?

Ease up your judgment on your fellow neighbor.

He might seems a tad luckier

He could look not so lucky in the opportunities he had in his life.

Both of you share this common characteristic:

You both had to struggle all the way

And try to grab the few moments of satisfaction, hope and happiness.

And what remains after we discard all these mythological craps?

Elias Kazan, the late famous movie director, published a book “Acts of Love”. I liked the story that is down to earth to ethnic idiosyncrasies, customs and way of life. this is about Greek islanders who immigrated to the USA and hanged on their “homeland” mythological habits of behaving in a fast changing society

This is a passage in the French translated version “Actes d’Amour”

Question: What is this great emotion that remains after we drop all these  mythological craps about sexuality and love?

Note 1: What should remain is this most powerful of emotion: Pity. Pity is the greatest of all true emotions, and it include all kinds of mammalian species:

  1. We need people to have pity on us and that is why we extend a bad connotation for pity and try to find alternative terms for it, like kindness, compassion, caring...
  2. We know deep inside us that we survive thanks to the hundreds of people who had pity on us during our harsh life. Most of these people are strangers to us, and many didn’t even wait for us to ask for aid.
  3. People extend their pity and do Not expect but that someone else will return the favor in kind (pity), when hard times tacke us.

Note 2: Elias Kazan is the famous movie director and he turned to writing novels after the movie industry sanctioned him for being forced to divulge to the “Maccarthy Commission” in 1965 the names of the supposed communists in the industry.

People forget very quickly what good you have done?

No, nobody can forget the good deeds

Or they wish it is Not brought out?

Kind most of us would like to give the illusion they were always self-sufficient and independent?

Even if you hear a bad story about me, understand, there was a time I was good to those people too, but they won’t tell you that part.
No one should justify their bad behavior because of the good moments.
It won’t ever overlap the reality of how everything came to be. This is in reference with deceit and bullying.
People make mistakes, sure. Though, good times can’t mask a bad person. Being taken for granted when all you did was “good” is a whole other story.
Just because one person doesn’t seem to care for you, doesn’t mean you should forget about everyone else who does.
(Actually, we prefer to forget that if we survived so far, it is because of the hundred of “strangers’ who had pity on us and extended a helping hand)
People are only bad about others to feel good about themselves. Insecurity on their behalf.
Keeping others down to keep me up?
Leave these folk to their own devices, let karma to sort this out? No need to be that stupid and learn to select people and judge their characters
(Mind you that many are professional actors and they are Not aware of spending their life acting up)
Judging and condemning others before you know them isn’t my idea of nice, but I’m afraid it happens. I hear it every day. But I say don’t be horrid until you know that person yourself.. judge for yourself.
No need to trust who cannot laugh on himself and his many foibles, errors and mistakes

Pretty late Mama, good evening.

A long time immigrant, bewildered how to erect a State in his country

A couple of poems that I wrote in Arabic in January 1991 and that I didn’t recall writing them in a letter to my parents.

Although I cannot claim that I was in love with my parents, I still recognized their dedication and care as they could master with their little education. I cannot recall, my brother, sister and I had any conversation with our parents. We were Not allowed to join visitors and share in the discussions.

Before 6 years of age, we were all shipped to a boarding school in Lebanon to save us from the deadly African diseases. They were strangers to us as they visited us one summer out of two.

Actually, I was the one who stayed with them till they passed away at very old ages, through mightily hard extended and debilitating illnesses.

Mother, late pretty mama, good evening.

I get furious when people just recall you as a chic woman

A great eye for fashion and designer fingers.

Mother, the cornerstone and guiding rod to father

In all his risky adventures, and later hopeless states of mind.

I know better,

You were afraid for me of people, of this harsh world

A world of no mercy.

Where to go and flee?

Mother, you freed me twice as I decided to immigrate.

Thank you.

I had far more hard days in foreign lands than relaxing ones.

I was one day away from joining the homeless, and feeling the cramps of hunger.

How I survived is the miracle.

The miracle of hundreds of people who felt pity on my conditions.

Free me once again mother.

I am Not complaining: I decided to liberate myself by my own volition

An immigrant who fled the civil war,

And bewildered how to erect a State in his country.

Twenty years out of his home country

In a welcoming country that refuses to be my second home.

A country that decided to liberate Kuwait and restitute it to its tribal Sheikhs.

Children born and Not recognized as citizens

So that oil money remain for its tribal Sheikhs and their descendent,

Their women and their colonial Masters.

Father, the good hearted husband

Who could never refuse to lend, even when he didn’t have any in his older years.

At the instigations of mother when they were in a well-to -do condition relative to the extended families.

But it is father who is remembered as the good Samaritan.

A father who helped generations of physicians, engineers, teachers

Who appreciated him for as long as their feathers grew into powerful wings.

Yes, father passed away, destitute and barely visited.

The same with mother who cried for being left isolated and ignored.

You will Not be ignored anymore.

Rest in peace.

Tidbits #31

The widening gulf between health and wellness? “The promises of strange elixirs and fine powders feel more deranged and seductive than ever.”

“But that life may be restored to the animal, an opening must be attempted in the trunk of the trachea, into which a tube of reed or cane should be put; you will then blow into this, so that the lung may rise again and take air.”—Belgian anatomist Andreas Vesaliu in his 1543 treatise De Humani Corporis Fabrica, writing about the mechanics of breathing used in today’s ventilators

Bidet usage is spreading as supermarket shelves of bathroom tissue are depleted. That’s no problem for those who prefer to clean their nether regions with water from bidets.

Ingenius creative solution. Vietnam set up rice ATMs. The machines distribute free rice in cities across the country, including a 24/7 dispenser in Ho Chih Minh City.

Panama papers? The indirect financial gimmick for the US multinational financial conglomerates to siphon in all the wealth of the world into the US financial treasury. The Rothschild conglomerate is the top of the pyramid and control how money should be distributed

On a trip and in a group of people who supercially know each other, a few members forget that each member is different. A few ignore some people as non-existent, some do not pay attention for the requests of others… Pretty soon, divergences emergent for Not giving each person his own due to opinions and rights.

In China, one coronavirus hospital ward served as the setting for an experimental program in which robots tended to patients’ needs. These bots can clean floors, deliver food, and even boost the morale of COVID-19 patients.

Don’t count on permanence of waterfalls.  A sinkhole redirected water of a massive waterfall away from the San Rafael Waterfall in Ecuador.

I wrote in 2009: “Banks re-invest your safely net money in secured government bonds with outrageous interest loans ,extended to other customers who patronize the same bank.  Banks are the perfect financial sawing machine (up and down) with other people’s money. Banks are such icons that governments feel obligated to save banks, even investment banks from bankruptcy, by shamelessly propagating the myth of a most ridiculous excuse:  Banks are the “ideal oil” or lubricating medium to keeping society functioning for the capitalist system!

Les grandes puissances coloniales ont l’intention d’hypothéquer l’avenir du Nord Syrie, riche en hydrocarbure (25% des reserves de terre), surtout dans la region de Al Malikiyah (Rumaillah) pres de la riviere Tigre.

Since 2006, Israel has become a liability to USA administration. With their failure in Syria, Israel became a total liability. The USA and Israel are living in a Bubble of faked news and misinformation: All the people in the Middle -East, including the leeches of leaders, know by now that Israel is our existential enemy.

“In this age of ‘parenting as guilt,‘ please spread the guilt equally. Make fathers feel as bad as mothers.” Novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s commencement speech is funny, simply stated, and empowering.

The UN is asking for $2 billion to tackle the pandemic in conflict zones. During the past week, Syria, Libya, and Gaza all reported their first Covid-19 cases. The United Nations makes it clear that if the disease is not controlled in these places, it will affect all of us.

US senators might vote on a massive coronavirus relief bill of a $2 trillion net impact on the US economy. An amount they could have afforded if Bush Jr. didn’t invade Iraq in 2003

Illusory superiority” cognitive bias? People who know the least are often convinced they know the most.  Social psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger

The driving force to our survival is this sense of Pity. We extend a helping hand for someone to make it through the day, emotionally and financially.

We try to substitute the term Pity for Kindness or Responsibility, though responsibility is an acquired quality. If you still consider Pity as a bad connotation, then you are a pitiful person. This time around it is the worst of bad connotations.

Pity: The driving force to our survival

We are surrounded with terms such as Act of Kindness, Act of Compassion, Act of Love…

These terms could fit with people we know and also like and respect.

And what about strangers?

Hundreds upon hundreds of people we don’t know had pity on us, before we got cocky to consider Pity as a bad connotation.

We avoid like the plague Act of Pity.

The Samaritan had pity on the wounded and robbed person. Actually, these kind of people have pity on living creatures and Not just human kind.

The driving force to our survival is this sense of Pity. We extend a helping hand for someone, so he can make it through the day, emotionally and financially.

So many time, as we were growing up, people aided us, and Not because we were cute, funny, or talented or saw potentials in us.

We are in need of tenderness, care, disoriented, frustrated, can’t see the end of the horizon, what we should be doing, where to go, how to behave, how to communicate…

So many times we were isolated, almost famished, no place to spend the night, where to go when sick, penniless, at the end of the roll…

And somehow, we managed to survive the day. And we refuse to recall who helped us, how we were rescued.

Hundreds upon hundreds of strangers came to our rescue, and we never had the courage to remember a few of these Samaritans.

We try to substitute pity for responsibility, though responsibility is an acquired quality.

Pity should be elevated to the highest great level of connotation.

All other “good terms” be degraded one level.

If you still consider Pity as a bad connotation, then you are a pitiful person. And this time around it is the worst of bad connotations, a “Pitiful person“.

Note: You watch animal documentaries and you notice that carnivorous big feline attack the fallen behind in a herd or looking Not fit to follow the herd. No, it is Not to salvage their energy, it is “Out of Pity“, like this term or Not.
