Created in 1692, this book by unheralded artist A. Boogert featured beautiful watercolours and theories around how best to mix them.
As our friends at This Is Colossal have noted, the 800 page book, entitled Traité des couleurs servant à la peinture à l’eau, ‘was probably the most comprehensive guide to paint and colour of its time’.
More significantly, it was really a tease for the subsequent release of the influential modern version, The Pantone Color Guide, which was published … wait for it … 271 years later.
