A walk in the valley of Baskinta, Metrn district, Lebanon

Saturday, October 4, 2025. A wonderful sunny and dry day.
Saturday is an unusual walking adventure day since my guide Doudou reserves Sat. and Sun. for special trekking expeditions with exclusive groups and small professional groups to discover new trails.
Initially, I was intent of passing the day in Baskinta for the Apple Day. People could pick and fill their basket/bag with apples straight from the tree for $5. The day was to be crammed with events, music, dances. eateries and mass participation.
Unfortunately, Doudou is Not in that mood of being invested with crowd.
Thus, we drove to Zaarour, a skying resort with two artificial lakes. An extension to the towns of Bolonia and Mrouj …. We parked on a side road that leads to Baskinta. This region is part of the vast town of Mtein.
We descended all the way to the valley where we could see the grotto where an Emir did hide, and the small church and the vast flat of land totally planted with vegetable.
I was awed to witness that all the cascading pieces of land were cultivated with all kinds of fruits and vegetables. And the plenty of water and canalization and water tanks…
Obviously, we had to ascend. and we opted for another trail so that it will be a loop. Doudou was very patient watching me zigzagging the slopes like donkey weighted with loads.
We observed a few wonderful old houses and mansions, well maintained and sort of exclusive location in that wilderness.
The fog started from down the valley, and I figured out that we will reach the car before it covered Zaarour.
In fact, that what happened. I arrived home around 1:30 pm. A good satisfying day.
