“For decades, the world has asked the wrong question about the Democratic Republic of Congo: “What’s wrong with your country?”
The real story starts long before today’s challenges.
From the brutal slave colony created by the King of Belgium, to the Belgian government’s continued exploitation, to the CIA-backed assassination of Patrice Lumumba, and the 30-year dictatorship that followed—Congo’s struggles didn’t appear out of nowhere.
And even today, corporations like Glencore extract billions in cobalt while giving almost nothing back in tax revenue.
Yet the world still blames Congo instead of the global systems that created the crisis.
This isn’t just history—it’s a reminder that the system itself must change.
