“In Russia, soldiers are no better than dirt under officers’ boots. What to think of an army where over 500 soldiers died in 2002, the equivalent of an entire battalion, just for bad treatments and bullying practices? Mothers of soldiers have to fight against this monstrous army that devours its children. This army system functions as a closed cultist prison” wrote Anna Politkovskaia, a journalist investigator to the daily Novaia Gazeta.
Anna Politkovskaia, casually called Ania, flew to Chechnya 70 times within 7 years to cover the second war there and witness the atrocities and tortures; she was practically the only reporter to dare venture cover this second war. The first war in Chechnya (1994-96) was an object of mass demonstrations in Russia but this time around an ominous silence and media blackout was the rule over Russia. Ania was the journalist who made waves and exposed President Poutine and the army with relentless and repeated targeted articles, strong with accurate details and names.
Ania interviewed mothers of soldiers which broke the deathly silence thanks to the eye-witness accounts of afflicted mothers: the Russian army in Chechnya was experiencing mass suicides of soldiers who could no longer suffer the heavy handed practices of the army and its cruel regulations. Young soldiers returned to civilian life unprepared, indifferent, and totally disorganized because the government had already forgotten them. Most of them ended up delinquents and returned to prisons for callous activities, cold killing, and total despise of civilian life: crimes committed in the Caucasus accelerated the running wild of militaristic spirits.
What drove Ania to anger was “the total silence of the Russian people is the prime phenomenon of the current political life today. This system exists because the Russians have been frightened to silence.” Ania played the mediator in 2002 to the Doubrovka hold up where hundreds of civilians were attending the musical comedy “North-East”. The Russian commando stormed the theater using poisonous gas killing 170 civilians and injuring 500. She also tried to mediate the Beslan hold up of a school in 2004. The Russian authorities did their best to prevent Ania from reaching the location in Ossetia and poisoned her on her flight to the hold up. 32 Chechnya combatants were stormed by the Russia commando killing 300 kids, 11 soldiers, and 31 of the hostage takers.
Ania was born in the US when her Ukrainian father was assigned to the UN; she lived in Russia most of her life. In October 2006 Ania was assassinated in front of her apartment. She had a rough day: she had visited her sick mother with cancer at the hospital and paid a visit to her expecting daughter. She used to call Poutine “The Tchekist” in reference to the Tcheka, the immediate ancestor to the KGB at the beginning of the communist regime. Four other journalists working for Novaia Gazeta were assassinated in 2009: this daily was the sole media opened to opposition opinions.
After the assassination of Ania, Poutine cynically commented “her influence on Russian society was insignificant. Her assassination will cause more harm to Russia than her articles.” After Anna Politkovskaia death, her articles and diary were published and then translated in many languages. She kept a “Journal of an angry woman” that started in December 2003 to August 2006 where she reported her diary and her field investigation to the lowest quarters in Moscow. In her diary Ania stated “The world is afraid of nuclear catastrophes; I am scared of hatred; feelings of hates are nested in the deep guts of Russians. This condensed black energy of hatred!”

“It is impossible that past humiliation of Blacks comes back to crush us all. Blacks will refuse to go to war abroad: How many blacks could the White government locks up in jails for disobedience? The US will be incapable of building a better world, here or elsewhere, if White/Black relation is not improved. The West is still unable to differentiate between the human and the politics in discrimination: The West refuses to accept the slaves brought in chains as valid citizens.
We have got to do what is necessary at the price of expulsion, emprisonment, torture, and death. We have got to do what is necessary so that the next generation of blacks pay the least of the bill for human dignity and political civil rights. The impossible is the least we should demand.
We are beautiful’ when I was a kid I wondered “when vengence is consumated then what would become of all that beauty?” There is a law that says “What goes up must come down”: Whites have reached the top of the curve in ignorance and intransigence. The few of the conscious Blacks have to stand up and fire in order to end this racial nightmare; they have to press for real united nation”
James Arthur Baldwin (1924-87) settled in France and died in France. He published “The Conversion, 1953” and “The room of Giovanni” where he proclaimed his homosexual inclinations. Baldwin participated in the first Black Congress in Paris (1956) and met black intellectuals and artists from around the world. He travelled in Europe and Africa and used to return to the US to participate in critical demonstrations and mass ralies.
Baldwin demanded of Senator Robert Kennedy to convince his brother President John to carry a balck kid to the south and register him in white school since the US High Court has recognized this right in 1954. When Kennedy refused then Baldwin replied: “Nest time, fire it is” Indeed, the 60’s was plagued by a succession of political assassinations starting by John Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and many other black leaders.

“I knew, as I gained consciousness, that none of my dreams were feasible. Separation in Whites and Blacks was getting pretty clearly a fact. It was its effects on the personality of the individual that devastated me. I was no threat to anyone. At the age I could reflect, I comprehended that, for so long, my individuality and aspiration counted for nothing. What I did say could not be understood. There is nothing in human history a worst corrosive attack to individuality than racial discrimination. Racial discrimination defined an inferior place for blacks. The Blacks (having the same dreams as Whites and sharing the same culture) reacted by burying deep down their consciousness this difference: I felt isolated and was scared. Pride led me to hiding my hatred: I could not let the White feels how profoundly he vanquished me; how he is regulating my life.
I used to hide “the hatred for myself” and could not help but hate the one who provoked this feeling. Most of the day was wasted on a cruel war waged against my emotions and to dominate my tumultuous emotions. Emotions I wished not to feel at all but could not help but to feel. I was in perpetual conflict with reality; I lost hold on my means; my judgment for the objective world was impaired.
I ended up hoarding fantastic ambitions in my day-dreaming; I stored them in this still empty part of my personality so that the ship would not sink into the absurd. Like every American, I wanted a good job, my home, my own status. I was day-dreaming that I was organizing secret groups of Blacks; if Blacks refused to cooperate with my schemes then I will fight them: I started hating the uncooperative Blacks.
Then I went on to dreaming of feasible projects. I was re-living a second childhood; a new feeling of limited possibilities emerged in me. What of these limited dreams could be feasible? I found none. It is based on this feeling of void that I focused my energy: This constant want that cannot be had; of being hated for no reason. It was no longer fear of being lynched, discriminated against, or submitting to interminable brutalities that harassed my consciousness: It was this psychological ache from contradictory emotions. I felt there were only a few Blacks who could make any sense of their lives and who could tell about their history. A Black life is a vast land of unconscious suffering.” (Black Boy: Hunger for equality)
Richard Nathaniel Wright (1908-60) was born in the south, Mississippi State. He fled to Chicago in 1927 and experienced the big depression. He witnessed another form of discrimination: class segregation. In these conditions, father figure relationship testified for the wide psychological rift between races. How a Black internalizes class discrimination that is a major obstacle for conscious awareness? A Black is relegated to inaction and society excludes him. This conscious inaction is the launching board for getting organized to overcoming this hunger for equality.
Wright published “The children of Uncle Tom, 1938” and an autobiography “A kid from the State”. Then he published “Black Power, 1954” and “Black Boy”. He was a communist and was persecuted; he fled to France where he had large impact on black intellectuals such as James Baldwin and Paul Gilroy; he was the inspiration for many movements such as Black Consciousness and Black Power in the 60’s.

Many souls are fleeing; from where and to where? What for?
Many souls are immigrating to die
In open seas, in closed containers, and on barbed wires;
Fleeing to freedom from hunger, oppression, ignorance, or limiting opportunities?
Time to ponder what kind of freedom is it you are expecting:
Is it freedom to get chained to chain operations?
Is it freedom to sweat prison shops?
Is it freedom to live third class human?
Denied human rights and human dignity?
Before seeking freedom you have got to ask: “To where?”
There is no freedom in Africa to return to.
There is no freedom in Israel to go to.
There is no freedom in Europe or the USA to hope for:
Video cameras are watching you in the privacy of toilets.
Blacks in the US have been chanting “freedom” for ever;
Freedom from slavery to emancipation;
Are they still chanting for freedom;
Freedom to go back to Africa?
Freedom to bunk in squatters?
Freedom to live in hurricane ravaged States?
Whites have been fleeing to freedom.
Freedom to learn surviving in the wild;
Freedom to sleep under green canopies of old trees: decapitated;
Freedom to drinking from clean and clear springs: contaminated;
Freedom to breathing fresh air: suffocated, even on Mount Everest.
The rich are after a different sort of freedom: prepping;
Prepping storing food, fresh water,
Spare parts for older cars, and tools
In anticipation of the next calamity;
Learning to barter unused modern consumer products
To substitutes that can be repaired and maintained at home
Waiting for
The next dirty terrorist bomb,
The coming of Armageddon.
Developed Nations have been prepping too;
Hoarding oil, rare minerals, and copper;
Gardening fresh produces in backyard continents.
People are fleeing a merciless God
Petrified in desert laws
Many centuries ago.
People are fleeing a merciless God: Green money;
Wiping out original Indians for free lands;
Shipping in slaves,
First of the white kind
And then of black color: more accommodating;
For free labor to cultivate the freed lands;
Then contracting out products and services
For cheaper slaves: Global slavery.
Freedom to live where?
To live in megalopolis City-States democracies
Denied political rights and political identity?
To live at night and sleep at days
Fearing two feet predators?
There is no Egypt to flee from to any kind of freedom.
There is no freedom in Afghanistan to grow opium;
There is no freedom in the wild to grow marijuana.
There is no freedom within you for shelter:
You have got to act normal: schizophrenic of what comes handy.
There is no homeland to visit:
God hates freedom of opinion.

Hurrah, Evil wins this time around in this first French novel by the Lebanese Peter Germanos. It is not amenable to reviewing because
1. first, the situation in the Middle East, especially Lebanon, is very complex and would require another novel to explaining the conditions in order to make a semblance of sense;
2. second, this story involves half a dozen of intelligence institutions such as CIA, GRU (Russia), Mossad (Israel), Second Bureau (Lebanon and France), Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, to name a few nations, involved in having Lebanon a good starting base for interfering in the Middle East and securing oil exploitation and transport is one too many for a short novel of 242 pages.
We have two heroes: The Lebanese intelligence officer Marwan Hajj and the Al Qaeda.
Marwan is originally from Akoura in Mount Lebanon or “Marounistan”as Germanos calls the district, in one of the districts where the Christian Maronite sect is in majority (Kesrouwan, Jbeil, Betroun, and Bshari). Marwan is young, from a “noble” family, drives a Porch, and is willing to shell thousand of dollars for beautiful girls wishing to have lifting of whatever needs lifting so that they look “jnoun” (driving males crazy) as their gorgeous girl friends.
Al Qaeda is regaining ground after the Lebanese army defeated it in the Palestinian camp of Nahr El Bared. The Qaeda was far better equipped with modern arms and high tech communication facilities and the army suffered over 170 soldiers and officers, not counting hundreds of injured, after 6 months of fighting. The US refused to arm the Lebanese army and only Syria supplied the army with canon shells to resume the battle.
Al Qaeda (well established in Iraq, northern Africa, and around the Indian Ocean) is planning a major terrorist activity that would close the Suez Canal for ten years; thus, oil prices would jump to $600 the barrel and the “koffar” in Europe and the US would suffer economically. Al Qaeda disseminates misinformation that the attempt is targeting the Strait of Hormus in the Arabic/Persian Gulf. All the intelligence institutions have wind of a major terrorist act but are mislead on the proper maritime target.
The Mossad is cooperating with Al Qaeda in order to ignite another civil war in Lebanon to weaken Hezbollah and also to involve the US in a war against Iran. The US army prime enemy is Al Qaeda (Islamic Sunni sect extremists) but the CIA (and its officer in Lebanon, Kyle from Kentucky) is willing to cooperate with Al Qaeda against Hezbollah and the Shiaa axe (Islamic sect) extending from Iran to Iraq, northern Syria and Lebanon.
If you feel disoriented bare with me a little while.
Wealthy Saudi princes are financing Al Qaeda terrorist plans to weaken Hezbollah and Iran, and wealthy Lebanese business men and politicians are cooperating with Al Qaeda and the Israeli Mossad to weaken Hezbollah.
Hezbollah launches a counter attack and within a couple of hours closes down dozens of Mossad bunkers and safe heavens along with other offices of the Sunni and Saad Hariri militia in Beirut who were wearing security guard outfits. Samuel Dagan, (Israel’s Mossad chief who is currently under fire for involving many European fake passports to assassinating Hamas officer in Dubai), said that “Hezbollah destroyed within hours four years of work and preparation”.
To make a long story short, Al Qaead managed to secure a dirty (low level) atomic bomb to the port of Beirut and used the Middle East like Ho Che Minh route of (Tripoli-Palmira Syria- Anbar Iraq) to deliver the dirty bomb to Saudi Arabia.
The novel mentions the Egyptian Al Zawahiri as the master mind of Qaeda but I think it is the Libyan Al Libi who is involved in terrorist activities targeting the Shiia sect since Zawahiri is trying hard to unite all Islamic sects against the US imperialist strategy.
I could follow the story, but I doubt people (non Lebanese and none politicized) will find the courage to finish this exciting novel.
Note: Minorities in societies have this knack of constructing myths; they end up believing myths for real. You cannot defeat myths “made real” when communicating for establishing real modern States.

Booker T. Washington was born in 1856 of a “white” father; he founded “Tuskegee Institute” in Alabama in 1881. Booker was the first black leader to be invited to the White House during Theodore Roosevelt in 1901. In 1895, Booker presented a program at the Atlanta International Trade Fair that focused on three issues for the duration of a period:
First, accepting to decline any demands relative to political civil rights;
Second, accepting segregation with the white society; thus agreeing on a lower status for the black citizens;
Third, agreeing not to have Federal financial aids for black formation at universities.
The rationales for Booker was that blacks had to focus on technical skills, contribute to internal market trade, and accumulate wealth in the process before demanding equality in civil rights. Booker believed that there were phases to progress; when blacks reach adequate proper means then demanding political rights will be reasonable. It happened that in that period the northern States were investing heavily in the southern States and blacks were reaping a good part of that investment and jobs. Thus, Booker’s program finally enjoyed the majority acceptance of the southern blacks.
William Du Bois begged to differ: “B.T. Washington represents the old black attitude of submission. Is it admissible and feasible for millions of blacks to accomplish effective progress if they are deprived of their basic political civil rights? Can the blacks ever dream of any real progress if they are treated as slave caste and denied quality opportunities to moving ahead? It has been proven, again and again, that when blacks submit then prejudices increase. When racism is on the rise then blacks react vehemently and demand political rights and power as equal citizens under the laws. Blacks discover that it is more valuable to preserving self-esteem than acquiring tainted wealth that can be robbed from them in due time. It is not possible to civilize a people who have relinquished his value for self-esteem and the natural rights to struggle as free men.”
This dichotomy is almost identical in apartheid Israel. Moderate and so called “democratic forces” among the Israelis and Palestinians demand integration of the two people within one State. The radical factions among the two people demand two separate States. It is the right of the Palestinian people of all religious sects, after 60 years of racial discrimination, to demand a separate, self-sufficient, and autonomous State. The Palestinians need to re-gain self-esteem in planning and running a State; the Israelis need a period of decolonization to mentally re-gain humanity and abidance by the UN charter.

A challenge to all theologians and social scientists
Before Emperor Constantine, who established Constantinople as Capital for the Roman Empire in the Orient (called Byzantium Empire) around 315 AC, there were hundreds of Christian sects in the Middle East. Each sect had its dogma and its Bible (there were hundreds of versions).
The belief systems of these Christian sects differed greatly in the divinity of Jesus, the resurrection, the Holy Spirit, the status of the Virgin Mary (many would not even mention her name since women were considered impure), the status of Judas Iscariot, the rites, the language, the daily rituals, the status of the Old Testament, the communion of the flesh, the age to baptizing new converts, and to which race to focus on.
Many sects obeyed the laws of the Old Testaments in their integrity and many refused to adopt the Old Testament as part of their belief systems.
The Council of Nicaea (on the shore of Turkey) in 325 made things even worse: Constantine wanted to unify all the Christian sects into a religion of the Empire. The notion of three Gods into one (Father, son, and Holy Ghost) were forced upon the sects as well as the Sanctity of Mary and many abstract concepts wrapped into the Credo.
Any sect that refused the unified Orthodox dogma, of the Emperor in power at the time, was labeled “heretic” and was persecuted. It turned out that, for over 70 years, successive Emperors were in favor of one or another “heretic” belief system, and a few emperor reverted to paganism.
Around the year 400, another Emperor reverted to the Orthodox dogma and the persecutions resumed and even intensified. The heretic sects fled to beyond the Euphrates River under the dominion of Persia Empire and spread to the Arabic Peninsula and reached India and China.
Prophet Mohammad was from a clan that believed in one of these Christian-Jewish heretic sects that were established in Mecca; the father of Mohammad was a convert and his uncle was the Patriarch of the Christian sect.
In the year 1000, another schism took place between the Bishop of Rome (Catholic) and the Bishop of Constantinople (Orthodox) and another wave of persecution of heretic sects got under way.
The various Protestant “heretic” sects in the 16th century are but the latest in the variety of Christian sects and offshoot of ancient heretic Christian sects.
All that Prophet Muhammad did was to drop the abstract notions in the Orthodox dogma and to adopt the common denominator belief system of the various heretic Christian-Jewish sects in the Arabic Peninsula, Syria, and Iraq.
Thus, Islam combined the Old Testament integrally and the version of New Testament read by the Jewish-Christians sect, the Ebionites, of Mohammad’s tribe in the Mecca: the Patriarch of this sect was one of Muhammad’s uncles.
The Ebionites sect was fundamentally a Jewish sect that attached the teachings of Jesus (another Prophet) to the Old Testament. This sect considered St.Paul as a heretic because he opened the religion to the “gentiles”.
Historical facts prove that the early Christians, and particularly the illiterate disciples lead by Jack, the eldest brother of Jesus, who conglomerated in Jerusalem were very conservative Essenism Jews: Jesus was their Rabbi and they tried to follow his message.
When Peter finally marched out of Jerusalem it was to follow on the trail of Paul in order to dismantling Paul’s Christian communities and converting them to the Jewish laws. Paul had to tone down his discourse and adopt a few Jewish social laws in order to counter the vehement practical attacks of the “Jerusalem sect of Christians“.
Islam became the unified Christian-Jewish heretic sect opposing the Orthodox Christian Church in Constantinople. It is no surprise that the heretic Christians in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and Palestine rallied and supported Islamic troops against Byzantium and Persia.
After Constantinople fell in around 1450 to the Ottoman Empire, many of the non-Moslem Christian sects united politically to the Catholic Church in Rome, even though their dogma did not mesh nicely with the Catholic Credo.
Islam means submission (to God, the one and only). I submit a challenge to all theologians, religious researchers, and philosophers of all religious denominations (monolithic or not).
My hypothesis is: The religious message of the Prophet Muhammad, during the first 13 years of proselytizing in Mecca, is identical to one of the Christian-Jewish sects. Let me suggest the following procedure or protocol:
First, select all the religious Christian sects till the Council of Nicaea in 325; and then select the Christian sects after Nicaea until the year 400.
Continue the selection process of the sects after the split between Rome and Byzantium around the year 1000, then go over the Christian sects that were formed between 1000 to the Martin Luther schism, all the way to the modern Christian sects from Protestantism, Calvinism, Baptism, Methodism, Episcopalian, Armenians (Catholic and Orthodox), and all the sects in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and elsewhere.
Second, develop taxonomy of attributes in order to categorize all these Christian sects.
Third, allocate all the sects to one of six categories or more if need be.
Fourth, select the verses in Islam that correspond to the period of 13 years in Mecca, before the flight of the Prophet Muhammad to Medina (Yathreb) and the establishment of the first City-State of Islam
Five, assign each verse in that period to the taxonomy of step two.
Six, allocate the message of the prophet Muhammad in one of the categories chosen in step three.
The foundation to my hypothesis stems from reading a manuscript titled “Islam in its two messages: Christ and Muhammad.”
The author of the book is late Antoun Saadeh, a Lebanese of Christian Geek Orthodox denomination. The book was written in 1942 and Saadeh proves that Islam is almost identical to the message of Christ when we analyze the verses of the Koran pronounced during Muhammad proselytizing of his message before the legislation period for the new community in Medina.
Since Christianity is an amalgam of many sects that split into schisms in the last two thousand years, I figured that, from a scientific perspective, it would be more appropriate to differentiate Christianity according to sects.
It would also be fitting to study Islam by analyzing the various Moslem sects; though the variations would be based more on the legislation (Chari3a) and Hadith (stories on Muhammad) than the fundamental spiritual content during the first 13 years of the message in Mecca.
I suggest to start with four broad categories: Catholic, Orthodox, Christian-Jews, and Jewish-Christians. The basic differences are in the adoption of the Old Testament as act of faith and social regulations to follow.
There are Christians who do not adopt the Old Testament in their act of faith neither intrinsically or even using it in preaching and its myths in rhetoric; other use Old Testament as act of faith but do not adopt the Jewish laws for daily rituals; others adopt the Jewish laws either partially or entirely.
For example, Islam and Jehovah Witnesses may be allocated within the Jewish-Christian category because they abide by the nomadic Jewish laws for daily behaviors.
Note: I find many resemblance between St.Paul and the prophet Muhammad. Both avatars of God had apparitions and revelations and did what they had to do to spreading the message. Their message was to be universal:
1. Paul disseminated monotheism to the Mediterranean Sea basin (Roman and Byzantium Empires) and Mohammad spread monotheism to all of Asia (India, China, and Indonesia).
2. Paul’s method took 300 years to grabbing 10% share of the population; Mohammad’s method was more efficient, and rallied millions in just two decades.

I woke up late and knocked at the kitchen door to check if mother can hear well. She could.
This time, mother smiled sheepishly and then toned down the volume of the radio. She said: “Did the radio waken you up?” I said: “For the last month I have been fleeing home because the radio volume was 100% up and the TV volume was breaking the sound barrier”
I admit we are a hard-headed family for insignificant matters, and very loose and understanding for what really counts. I think that hardening of arteries exacerbates hard-headed behaviors as we move toward senility.
My dad would never admit that his ears needed cleaning, until he became totally deaf and would sit like a child, his head down, among chatting people.
Apparently, the prior steps of injecting for three days ear drops to loosen the wax was more that dad could suffer.
Finally, dad decided to have ear drops to loosen the wax before having them cleaned; the drops made him completely deaf and he was feeling useless and a half-man. I recall the day dad had his ears cleaned: he could not stop chatting and cracking jokes; a new-born person!
Mother would never admit that her ears could be “dirty”: It is not a feminine characteristic.
For over a month, she could not hear the phone and the TV volume was set all the way high.
When mother decided to have ear drops of wax solvent it was a monumental acknowledgement. Making her use ear drops three times a day was out of the question: first, her ears could not be that “dirty” and second, ear oil made her more deaf than before.
I had to take mother three times to the dispensary to have her ears cleaned before she realized that she was not injecting enough wax solvent. The wax in her ear was as thick and tough as a wall.
At every failure in the cleaning attempts with pressurized water and Betadine, a process that is painful, mother was finally convinced to resume using the wax drops three times a day and in sufficient quantities.
Yesterday was a new day: her ears finally released tons of wax that astonished me. Mother faked not to see what was pouring out. Mother is whole again and can start visiting people and harass them with her discovered genius for un-interrupted chatting.
Mother could have saved so much misery if she could afford an ear specialist with adequate tools.
There is a slight difference between having financial means and being totally parted of money colors.
For example, mother could have saved months of suffering and feeling half-human (one of the sensory organs deficient), simply because she could not afford to check with an ear specialist with the adequate tools for cleaning ear wax and other debris.
For example, I could have visited a skin specialist and saved several months of excruciating itching harassment. Finally, the physician at the dispensary refused to prescribe any medicine until I have a blood test to analyze the conditions of my liver. The blood test should cost around $40.
Until I manage to save $40, I should suffer. I am still hoping that time will take care of the itching demon.
And I am realizing that this hope is dwindling fast, not only for the itching healing but also having my computer repaired.
The test was never done, and I recovered a week later…
All that I want is a word processor; a gizmo that process words such as easy editing and saving instead of jotting down notes on separate paper sheets.
All that I want is a machine that you could have gotten for practically free if computer companies would think about the millions of people who don’t care about packing hundreds of applications and audio-visual facilities in smaller and smaller portable machines; sort of one machine per application at a time; one tool for one application for both the simple-minded and pocket simple.
Note: The itching disappeared for no particular reason and using nothing. I make sure to rub some alcohol over sweaty parts of my body, and it smell good too.

A suffering shouting man is not a bear dancing. My “negritude” is not a stone, a tower, or a cathedral: It plunges in the red flesh of soil. We did not invent or explore the moon but earth would not be earth without us. ”
Aime Cesaire (1913-2008) was born in the French Martinique Island. Brilliant student, he received a grant to attend the university of Louis-le-Grand in Paris in 1931. Aime met the future and late President of Senegal Sedar Senghor in this school.
“Black Paris” of the 30’s was an opportunity and an eye opener to black transcontinental. He befriended Leon-Gontran Damas and founded in 1934 “The Black Student”, encouraging black students to revise the effects of white dominated culture on the “Negritude” or Negro culture. His “Notebook of a return to mother land” was the work of a life time and propelled Cesaire into politics.
Cesaire wrote:
“Europe in the last 3 centuries was very lucky in one aspect: It became the crossroad for all kinds of philosophies, cultures, ideas, feelings, and the distributor of human energy. The question remains: has colonization actually got divergent cultures in contact? I think not.
Not a single human value was a success among all the colonial procedures and elaborates plans. The colonizer ended up a degraded man; he got in touch with his base deepest vile emotions and instincts.
The colonizer resurfaced his racial hatred, endemic violence, and picked and chose moral values that suited the vanquisher.
Two sets of values were adopted relative to rape, violence, human dignity, and human rights: one set befitting the European and another applicable and accepted for the colonized people.
Europe wallows in statistics of infrastructure achievements. I am interested in the human dimensions. It is in the sacrifices in health, safety, and miseries of the colonized that did the infrastructure work to facilitate trade and commerce for the colonizers.
I am interested in the millions who learned to fear, to feel helpless, to kneel down, and to developing inferiority complexes. I am interested in how tribalism was deepened and expanded to accelerate the divide and rule strategies.
It is such a shame that only finance and mass industrialization prompted Europeans to come in contact with Africa. Colonizing Europe replaced archaic injustices with modern abuses; it confused old inequalities with the odious racism. Colonization has definitely de-civilized the colonizer.”
